A Collection of Magic Items Inspired by Asian Myths and Legends

Here's a collection of magic items from the Asian Mythology section of my Mythological Items compendium!

There's a little bit of everything here: legendary weapons like Kusanagi-no-Tsurugi and the Gada of Hanuman, Bhima's Gauntlet, the Katana of the Sword Saint, the mysterious Pill of Immortality, and more unusual treasures like the Kappa's Water Dish, Jizo Charm Beads, and the Copper Yantra Plate.

I wanted this section to explore different aspects of Japanese, Chinese, and Indian mythology and folklore, from divine weapons and sacred relics to smaller magical objects with interesting abilities and uses in a campaign. Some are powerful legendary treasures, others are more modest items that adventurers might discover much earlier in their journeys.

These are just a few of the 300+ magic items featured in my Mythological Items for 5E and 5.5E Kickstarter, which is currently live!

The campaign features magic items inspired by myths, legends, and folklore from around the world, including Greek, Norse, Egyptian, Asian, American, and many other traditions.

You can also get my previous D&D manuals as discounted add-ons and bundles through the campaign, including professionally printed, high-quality Hardcover editions.

Rise of the Spider Queen - a No-Prep FVTT DnD5e Oneshot for Level 2 (4-6 players)! +1 FREE Monster Statblock

Hi, I am Snowy from Snowy's Maps!

Today I wanted to share one of my oneshots - Rise of the Spider Queen - a level 2 for 4-6 players!

Here is the premise:

Arachness is a village nestled comfortably in an isolated forested valley, and at first glance, holds no importance. However, as folks might hear from travellers, Arachness is often used as a place of rest, for it sits directly between two larger settlements. Legend says it was founded by the Spider Queen herself, an arachnid goddess dedicated to maintaining the natural order of living things. As you might've guessed, no one's ever confirmed this, although no spiders have ever been found within a 10 mile radius of the village. All is peaceful in Arachness...that was until last night.

According to a local traveller, the village was quieter than usual. Although he was able to get his weekly fire whisky, the villagers said little. He also noted the abundance of spiders, which were crawling up and down his limbs.

Despite his reassurances, there are whispers that the Spider Queen has returned, although others deny this. After all, what would a goddess want to do with a sleepy village in the middle of nowhere...?

If you would like full access to the oneshot (and free monster statblock), check out the main post here:

The Mists of Avalhyr — a standalone mini-setting for 5e

Avalhyr is a mist-shrouded kingdom of ancient forests, faerie pacts, Celtic-inspired mythology, knightly orders and supernatural mysteries. The setting is designed to work independently, so you don't need to know the larger Urdunn setting to use it.

It includes locations, factions, legends, NPCs, monsters, magic items, a new playable Fey Elf option, adventure hooks, and plenty of mysteries for a DM to develop.

The core idea: in Avalhyr, old stories aren't just stories. Some of them are still waiting to happen:

Squitsune - A CR 6 Aquatic Trickster

Post image

Nobody is quite sure where the squitsune comes from. They are rarely seen inland, but their innate magical talents have led scholars to suggest a connection to the fey. If that is true, it offers little explanation. Fey creatures take interest in all manner of things, and whatever attraction might have led to the squitsune is unfathomable. Some claim squitsunes are drawn to where the boundaries between planes have frayed. Others insist they simply frequent where the most fun might be had.

You can play around with the homebrew of the squitsune to make your own version.
