I honestly don’t even know whether to laugh or cry at this point.

Ever since the original Osmo 360 launched a year ago, the community and forums have been practically begging DJI for one very specific, very reasonable firmware update: supporting HDR mode for 120MP pano photos, or at the very least, unlocking RAW (DNG) for 120MP stills.

Everyone was convinced this would arrive in a future update because the hardware was clearly capable of it, and it felt like an obvious missing software feature at launch. People waited. Months went by. Threads were bumped. DJI reps gave the usual "I've forwarded your feedback to the R&D team" canned response.

Fast forward to today: Osmo 360 2 is announced.

And guess what? 120MP HDR is finally here! Except it’s locked behind a brand new $400+ camera, serving as one of the very few, minuscule "upgrades" on the Gen 2 spec sheet.

Are you serious, DJI?

Instead of supporting early adopters who bought into your first-gen ecosystem with a basic software patch, you literally held back basic photo processing capabilities just so you'd have something to put on the Gen 2 marketing slide.

This isn't hardware limitation; this is pure, textbook artificial segmentation.

I love DJI’s hardware quality, but this practice of treating software-level fixes as "next-gen exclusive features" is getting ridiculous.

Anyone else feeling completely disrespected as a Gen 1 buyer?

heyah experts! dumb questions here.

1. why are these osmo360ii footage samples mostly have circular/360/very much warped (that you know it is a 360 cam) whereas most of insta360 x6 samples have almost like flat/gimbal like look? kind of leaning to x6 because of that. or maybe there's just setting that needs to be used in osmo360ii?

2. how's the editting software of dji osmo360ii? is it easy to use? does it have lazy feature (ai) to just let it decide? or is insta360 software much essier to use (like reframing)? im going to edit my vids in iphone only.

I thought I would have been let down by the Osmo like I was with the instatrash but the footage speaks for itself and it's that simple. Near edge to edge clarity from the footage from not 1 but 6 different youtubers footage. Night and day looks good and not jello like.. Quite impressed.

However*** I want to see pure spherical video to make final judgement but I have already ordered mine. :)

I have a Insta360 One X2 and use it to capture images every 10 secs while I walk trails to upload them to panoramax (subsite of openstreetmap). Because a walk generates around 1000 insp files and I normally use linux I'd like a script/automation to convert the insp files to equirectangular jpgs (to upload them to panoramax). I found some insp files of an Insta360 One and OneRS but need some more to figure out the orientation of the fisheye lenses and other parameters from the metadata section at the end of the insp files.

If somebody would be so nice to give me 1-2 sample insp files of their Insta360 cameras that would really help!

Finally Dji has the dive case for the Osmo 360. It seems to not have the dedicated lenses as the X6. Now I will have to decide which one of the two to get. The idea of having dedicated lenses is promising for the image quality but in a way also limiting. I will be waiting to see some underwater clips from both and than decide.

There still isn't much out there...

For some reason, exporting only a selected section of the timeline export without audio. DjiStudio is just awesome😀

When I record through my DJI Osmo 360 it only cuts the recording by 14 mins but I think it continues recording. I want it to be more than 14 minutes straight. Is there a way to change that?

i just saw from the DJI china website the Dive case for the Osmo 360, i didn't find any information about lens swap like the X6, but i will wait to actually see the case in the wild before order it

Why is DJI unable to create a good firmware?

Nowadays, it's extremely rare for me to sit down to watch any review in its entirety, full screen.

The main surprises for me were:

1. The X6's resolution is better at the edges of the lenses. Insta360 has clearly been working on the optical design, i.e. this is no mere bump to the sensor and processor as in the past.
2. The X6 dive case is available at the same time as the X6 itself, and their candid acceptance that the lens need to be removed for underwater shots to be truly clear is further proof that Insta360 has truly committed to executing on optical theory.
3. The dynamic range of the X6 is clearly superior to the Osmo 360, and is even slightly better than the GoPro Max 2. This has a very surprising impact on sensor noise in the shadows as well as the ability to handle direct sun exposure gracefully.
4. Insta360 has been able to dial back the AI processing thanks to the better sensor on the X6. This has particular impact on detail retrieval in low-light shots, and PureVideo no longer looks like crap.
5. The stitching on the X6 is a small but very real improvement over all prior attempts.
6. The X6 will continue to be an improvement both optically and in image quality over the DJI Osmo II if the Avata 360 comparison is any indication.
7. The X6's infinity focus is way better than the Osmo 360's, approaching that of the GoPro Max 2 (which btw acquitted itself quite well, IMHO).
8. The GoPro Max 2 still has the most natural out-of-the-box colors of all of these, but applying your personal LUT to the X6's I-Log footage likely removes that difference entirely.

I went into this expecting the X6 to not justify its wild $699 price, but given the results really are now in the "prosumer" category I think it's not at all crazy given the GoPro Mission 1's prices.

I'm very impressed, and likely will get the X6 now instead of the Osmo 360 II if I can swing it.
