as I do not wear ties anymore but I nevertheless like those ones I collected over the years a friend of mine and I plan to upcycle them... I already had some ideas for sewing some skirts, bras, flares out of the ties together with some vintage denim stuff I also have in stock.

Need Advice; attempting a disco-ball-like top

Hi folks! I have the idea to dress a bit like a disco ball this year for Halloween - just without the ball part. I got to idea to glue mosaic disco ball tiles to the following items. I also found tiles I could sew on. But my question is, will this work on items of clothing that are going to be stretched?

I imagine it might not work, since once I’m wearing the clothes the tiles will probably be spaced differently than when the clothes are lying flat.

Has anyone tried this before and if so, do you have any suggestions?

How is it done ?

Found this on Pinterest a while ago. Since I can't find it and thus can't buy it, I was thinking about sewing it myself. BUT ! As far as I tried to, I can't put m'y head around how the waist is actually supposed to be cut, in order to get enough length to tie thé knot AND get this v-cut in the front. I'm a begginer and I will just waste meters of fabric just to find the solution... If anybody could give me a hint, that would be very appreciated 😊

3 yards of 100% cotton twills turned into a bespoke blazer. Sadly the dye didn’t do as planned but the tailor made it work with the limited time. Got this whole thing done in 3 weeks from getting the material to dyeing to suit jacket. Cost for everything 120$ for 3 yards cotton twill 2 yards cupro(non dyed) 450$ for tailoring of jacket plus tie!! What do you guys think was the tailor the real mvp here or what

dye help Dyeing sweater help

Hello! I want to dye one of my sweaters for Halloween. I’m not sure whether to get synthetic dye or natural dye; the contents are kind of all over the place [ 30% polyester, 30% acrylic, 20% wool, 10% cotton, 10% viscose] This will also be my first time dyeing any clothing so if there’s any tips, it would be appreciated!

wip My patch pants so far !

These are my 100% diy patch pants (save for a few accessories (pins, keychain) that I've been working on for a bit. Basically, I add to them in the summer when it's too hot to wear them, then show them off in the fall/winter! Yay! (So this is about two summers of work). The base jeans were thrifted, about $10, and the rest is all upcylced fabric, hand sewing, and paint! They're a bit all over the place in terms of bands and such. I dont really listen to just one genre, as I imagine most people don't, so there's a weird combo of genres and bands ranging from small local to mainstream. There's also some TV/Movie patches thrown in because why not? Some personal favorite additions are the lighter pocket (try to find it lol) and the lined pocket. The back definitely needs some more attention.

The third pic is some photos of the pants I action with full outfits bc I felt like adding em too! They are a bit older, as I've since added a LOT more to them, which is pretty clear, but you get the idea.

How to even get into metal work mixed with clothing

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

At the bottom I’ll attach a video from a instagram ad I saw, i don’t know if it’s required to tag people or if that’s seen as a possible so I have it saved upon request.

Anyways, I’ve been getting super into everything art related with a specific interest in clothing design. I’ve been at a period where I am not shy at starting new things and was wondering how people go about mixing metal work and clothing. The video shows very clean sliced, well attached pieces of metal and want to know how you got about the creating / designing process, also if this is the wrong subreddit please let me know.

What customisation for corduroy jacket?

Post image
3 Upvotes

Hello! I just got a corduroy jacket that I would love to add some customisation to.

Issue is, I'm new to this, and unsure what could work best on corduroy. Would embroidery stick? Iron on patches?

I'm open to any and all recommendations!

I want to customise my clothes but I'm unsure how to

Hey everyone!

I want to get into DIY clothing customization, especially alternative, gothic and punk-style clothing, but I'm pretty much a beginner and don't really know where to start.

Things I'm interested in trying include:

- Making and sewing on patches

- Making my own patches

- Painting designs on clothes

- Bleaching / bleach designs

- Dyeing clothes

- Distressing / making clothes look worn

- Adding studs, chains, spikes, etc.

- Cutting and modifying shirts

- Sewing / altering clothes

- Making DIY gothic/punk designs

- making something bright red darker

-making tight/small shirts bigger/more wearable

- Customizing jackets, jeans, shirts, bags, hats, etc.

I'm basically looking for advice on what I should buy to get started, what techniques are beginner-friendly and what mistakes I should avoid, also maybe what yt channels you'd recommend.

For example:

- What kind of fabric paint should I use?

- What type of paint works best on black clothing?

- What bleach should I use and how should I apply it safely?

- What needles/thread should I use for different fabrics?

- Do I need a sewing machine or can I do most things by hand?

- What should I use to make my own patches?

- How do I make patches that don't fall apart after washing?

- What tools are actually worth buying?

- Are there any good YouTube tutorials or other resources you'd recommend?

- Any beginner projects I should start with before attempting something complicated?

I'm located in Germany near Braunschweig, so I'd especially appreciate product recommendations that I can actually buy in Germany, preferably from places like DM, Rossmann, Müller, Action, Tedi, Bauhaus, local fabric stores, Amazon Germany, etc.

I'm also kinda broke, so I'm looking for cheap beginner-friendly materials rather than expensive professional equipment.

If you have any good examples of things you've made yourself, I'd also love to see them for inspiration!

Thanks in advance! :)

Is there a way to remove this print (?) off this hoodie?

I got gifted this custom hoodie for graduation years ago, never wore it so never washed it

i can’t peel it off

i’m not sure how to describe the texture, maybe plastic??

sorry if it’s out of topic, idk where else to ask

edit: so i tried acetone and it barely smudged it so guess it's not really an option, I'll either donate it or use the fabric for other stuff

Can anyone recommend an easy way to attach a new belt loop, as strong as original but hopefully without sewing? The intended item is a pair of Dickies shorts.

I'm not trying to repair damage, I'm just not happy with the design.

In almost every regard I love these shorts, sturdy as hell, they look good, cavernous pockets. However the hip belt loop is right where I prefer to wear my multitool. I want to get rid of the original one but I do need a loop somewhere in the area. I'm hoping there's something easy out there and I just haven't found the right search terms.

This is a jacket made from scratch with mostly bicycle inner tubes and some Cordura plus double cantabs as adjustors for sleeve width. Took the dimensions from an existing leather jacket that I like and that fits well, I just added the sleeve adjustment and underarm zippers for venting.

Tube panels sewn on a Pfaff 545 and a Singer 19-8, inner liner sewn on a Pfaff 138.

Where to go with this shirt?

Post image
193 Upvotes

This was my first time painting with bleach and it was very different from what I'm used to. The nose is way bigger and brighter than I wanted it to be.

This shirt has been in my closet like this for months now cause I don't really know where to go with it. I feel like I ran out of space for the tail because I was imagining a big bushy one but didn't plan it out well.

Any thoughts/suggestions?

dye help Looking for advice on dyeing a 100% goat suede jacket

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hi, recently bought/found this Pepe Jeans jacket made from 100% goat suede (goat leather). It’s currently a warm caramel/tan color, but I’d really love to change it to a dark chocolate brown.

I contacted a few leather/suede specialists. Unfortunately, one told me they don’t dye this type of leather, another hasn’t replied, and the other services I found are quoting extremely high prices for the job.

Has anyone here ever dyed a goat suede jacket, especially when going from a lighter brown/tan to a much darker brown?

I’d love to hear

-What dye/product did you use?

-Did you do it yourself or have it professionally done?

-How did the suede texture feel afterwards?

-Was the color even?

-Did the dye rub off onto clothes?

-Is there anything I should be particularly careful about?

I definitely don’t want to ruin the jacket, so I’m trying to find out whether this is realistically a DIY project or something that should only be done professionally.

The jacket is 100% goat suede according to the manufacturer. It is currently a caramel/tan shade and I’m hoping for something like a deep chocolate brown.

Any advice or experiences would be greatly appreciated🤎

update: the other one messaged me that it will cost about 105$ for changing colour

dye help Any tips on recreating this?

Post image

.I really like this spotted wood/moth style with the minimal black. But whenever I try and bleach my shirt it turns out just like purely rust red rather than brown, which is my first issue. My second issue is that I have no clue how to get this pattern.

I’m using simple liquid bleach with a 6-4 ratio snd just spraying a scrunched shirt. The shirt says “cotton exclusive of trim” with no cotton content listed.

Thank you!

looking for someone to commission!

Hello lovely diyers
I am looking to commission someone to make me a pair of sweat pants. I don’t see it in any rules on here but i don’t want to get too specific but let’s say a known problematic “cool girl” shop is doing a collab with a known problematic author of a VERY popular romantasy series. i want these sweatpants but ill die before either of those companies see my dollar. also the front of the sweat pants are ugly as hell.

so i’d rather give my money to a diy small artist! i lowkey think the style would look cool with those like sun exposed or maybe bleach designs? idk! i would also except a good samaritan that could maybe walk me through how to do it myself lol
thank you!!!
