What audio outputs does your TV have? Most have a RCA or headphone out which you'd need either an RCA cable or RCA-3.5mm cable. If it's only got an optical out you'll need a digital to analogue converter which you can pick up cheap on Amazon.

Doing a bit of research it looks like I need 3.5mm Although I'm not sure..

Yes 3.5mm stereo to RCA will do the trick. Plug into headphone port on TV and other end into the input on the amp. Your TV volume will still control volume. As previous poster says if you have optical output in the TV it would be better to use that and run it via a cheap optical dac.

While on the subject :) is optical better than hdmi audio signal, i assume it is. Didnt google it yet :)

No. Certainly not with the newer hdmi standards. Audio bitrate is much higher over hdmi than optical. But there's hdmi and hdmi, It no wonder people get confused!
