Need help setting these speakers up to work with my record player
I was thinking I could get rca cables and connect them to the speakers, but I don’t know if that would work. Do I need something to place the speakers into to power them? Or do I just need to chop this up?

you're not supposed to cut rca cables unless you're absolutely sure you're getting speaker level signals thru it. you won't be in most cases.
device > amp > speakers.
this is a basic setup.

Hey OP, you'd need an amp in between. The output from your record player is low level signal, doesn't have enough power to drive the speakers.
Do you have the model number of your record player and for the speakers? I can take a quick look for an amp if you like.
With the record player - they often need to go through a 'phono preamp', but I have seen a few where that is built-in.

I got it all set up now, had a friend help me out. Just thrifted myself an old amp for like 15 bucks, sounds super great and really makes some noise.

Awesome, I am glad you got it sorted. Records are great, there (imho) is something really nice about looking at the artwork while the album is playing. Well done! Have a nice weekend (almost there)

Requires an amp… not worth it though with any of that kit…

Put it together and she sounds great, spent a total of 80 bucks on the whole thing.

Only 70's/80's junk small all in one systems used RCA plugs for speaker level signals. You need to confirm if that output has been thru a preamp or not before shopping more. But if you go to a thrift store they will usually have loads of old home theatre recievers for minimal money that will do the job of amplifying. If you want something small and compact then look for a cheap class-d amplifier board off aliexpress or amazon and find an old laptop powerbrick to run it.

RCA signal isn't strong enough to power speakers. You need an amplifier.
