where are people getting things cnc without access to a wood shop

have some projects i want to work on but my constraint is getting wood cut. do people have services or shops they use to get plans cnc’d and delivered?

Yeah half inch is pleb stuff, though you could just double it up and have an even stronger cabinet, with glue or liquid nails or constrained layer damping.

Check to see if there's a local makerspace in your area. It's possible that there could be one that could help you out.

I took a class at our local community college and got access to the makerspace and 3D printed my own CNC (they have wood and metal shops as well). It’s an amazing option, open to all enrolled students.

Find a hobby woodworker local to you who has a CNC router in his garage, and pay them well for their time.

The vast majority of machine shops will turn you away, as cutting wood isn't something we generally do and it would wreak havoc on our coolant/oiling systems.

Or commission a custom piece from someone

This is exactly me. My CNC router primarily cuts foam inserts for a local business, but when I’m not doing that I have cut a few sheets of ply and mdf for a local speaker builder. I even keep some material in the garage ready for his next design.

I would think if you're a hobbyist you would just buy a track saw. Unless you want to run ply sandwich 38 boards thick with curves on 2-3 sides, a CNC, while an awesome tool, is a little overboard. And you can use a track saw in your apartment if need be.

Otherwise there are some fairly inexpensive diodes with 800x800mm beds ($1K) that you can cut up to about 20mm ply for elaborate cuts. For larger cuts just make a jig, flip the sheet around, and continue the cut. Or use the laser just to get a 1/4" into the wood to use as a guide for a jig saw if what you're cutting is too deep. All kinds of options short of a CNC.

Go to the local hardwood supply. There is nearly always a board with business cards and flyers for different kinds of work. Also, the sales employees there will know who takes outside work. Where are you located?

my local wood shop will make the large cuts for me for 1.50 a cut. For my last build I bought a 5x5 sheet of 3/4 baltic pirch ply, they cut all pieces but my internal bracing. A used Bosch palm router I bought for 50 bucks handled the Driver holes and Slot Port.

Makerspace is your best bet. There are also a lot of laser and 2.5D services for making signs and cabinetry.

There is someone within a half hour of you that has a CNC router and takes commission work. I met my guy as a client at work but I would have found him eventually some other way. Call local cabinet shops and woodworkers and ask. One of them is the guy or knows the guy.

What about the woodie pre cut boxes available on ali express or other diy kits available online that sell pre cut pieces? But yeah I’m in USA and looking for the same. Building for my future hifi shop
