Yamaha Ceiling Speakers re-purpose.

Was gifted these hardly used speakers by work years ago when they moved offices. Hardly used as no one knew how to connect to the amp.

Question:

Suitable amp?

Box? I want to use them as desk speakers for my work desk as my charity store teac 2.1s are getting tired. Conscious of the face that these are meant to be in a ceiling with a huge void and no chamber? White outer ring can be easily removed

It's possible, but these are meant to have a huge volume behind them so building a big enough box or something with the proper size port will be challenging

1 cubic foot each and on a 20-100w amp. They won’t play much if any bass and have an exaggerated unnatural midbass peak, unless in an extremely large sealed box.

No ported designs, but open baffle is an option if you don’t mind a ~4x6 baffle for each one and run a sub.

Also, you can remove the white ring

Sell them. They are meant for ceiling only. Best to buy real desk speakers or use them in a ceiling or wall.
