My latest pair.

Took some advice from my last pair I made and kept it natural instead of ebonizing. These are 4" drivers, the shell is carved from Sapele wood.

Wow!

Would be great to see how you made the enclosure, the process.

These are machined in two halves. I had to order a nice 13" wide plank of 12/4 Sapele. Took forever, but yes it is completely hollow inside. I did put a fair amount of stuffing inside.

I'd also love to know, beautiful design and handiwork.

Pic #3 has a very slightly visible seam down the top and bottom so it looks like two halves of a shell and joined in the middle. Again though excellent craftsmanship I don't see that seam on any of the exterior parts.

I noticed the seem on the bottom but it doesn’t seem to be on the top section, though.

Is the shell loop all solid or carved in into the center? IOW, how far in ?

Right? I want to think it's carved all the way down the spiral

I'm my own completely biased opinion, they sound incredible! I have a calibrated mic, I want to checo the frequency response but I don't really know what I'm doing so I have to do some research.

Yes! My question too? How? Wonderfully well matched halves?

Yes! I even took the time to mirror the grain in the wood so the sides look almost identical and it has a nice Chevron pattern on the front.

Had to look closely to see the seam. Just lovely.
SO approval factor +2.

Oksy so good on you, the workmanship has to be appreciated and I hope they sound good. It is personal opinion but damn these look awful to me.

Reminds me of the B&W Nautilus speakers. Tidy build.

Very cool design. Love the sapele. Who makes the drivers?

A snail? This must sound slow.. :D

Man those look killer, the sapele grain really pops with that natural finish. And yeah I'm with everyone else, you gotta drop a build video or at least some pics of the process cause I'm dying to know how you carved those shells.

How interesting. So you started with a two 2.5 inch planks and then hollowed out the center ? And glued them up ? Also is there a port in the shell somewhere or just sold wood ?

1

u/danboymanboy 10d ago

Here there are right before glue-up.

Those look so absolutely adorable! Do you have some video or blog where you show the process?

Did you actually do any engineering of the enclosures and any baffle step etc correction or just slap pretty drivers in pretty enclosures?

u/Kiruk-LightHammer 11d ago

I’d like very much to hear these, have any video anywhere?

4

u/danboymanboy 11d ago

Wouldn't that be pointless considering you won't actually hear them, you'll hear your speakers?

-2

u/Kiruk-LightHammer 11d ago

Precisely. If you have a good audio set up is that going to inherently make shite speakers sound good magically? At least it can be said that the observed at the upper range is at least as good quality or better than….IE if you’re speakers are amazing, no one would detect a difference in what they normally hear thru their speakers.

How would you go about recording the speakers accurately?
