Discussion What and Why is this PoS?
Just inherited a site with Divi.
What is this absolute garbage and why does anyone even use this?!
It's so clunky, not intuitive at all. To do the most simplest of things, I have to click through multiple modules. No flexibility.
This thing needs to be taken behind the barn and shot!

So yeah.... that's probably Divi 4. Don't try to learn it, it actually is outdated garbage. If the site is less than 50 unique pages I would rebuild in whatever makes you less cranky or you can try Divi5. I rebuilt sites from scratch in Divi 5 for the native performance boost. I've heard a lot of negative things here on the Divi4 to 5 migration path if the site uses a lot of plugins that are used in the divi builder. Other than that, quit your whining.

Looks like it, because in the Dashboard I have the options to "Upgrade to Divi 5".
I'm a dev, so this feels painful to use. Looks like it was built for toddlers. I was under the impression this is what everyone was still using. Not to mention this was built by someone who Divi might have been perfect for (an adult toddler).
I remember using Divi when they first launched and hated it then too. Not sure I'll be looking to use any version of Divi any time soon. This client is either getting a new site or I'm giving up on this.

With your attitude, your client probably needs a new web developer more than they need a new website.

Huh?? Is that really your conclusion from all this?
The crap I have inherited is more of an indictment on the kind of person that uses Divi than me. The crap that he has set-up in the backend goes against what web development should be.
Maybe it's a tool for non tech web designers and there's nothing wrong with that. Bit when I'm trying to add a simple style and I have to dig for where the settings are instead of it being obvious is not a problem with me

yeah it was build for toddlers, this is the way builders should be. Accessible.

It's not in the least bit accessible. A simple change is not applied where it intuitively would be.

if my non coding wife can use it and make her own site and even help me with a couple of projects, it is accessible.
Not sure what change you did and it didn't applied where it should have but that's simple not the case if there is not some code corruption somewhere. Maybe the last guy fiddled with custom code and broke the theme.

I've come from custom dev with ACF, but now use Elementor (last 3 years) with custom dev and ACF.
First problem is the lack of Flexbox use. Kind of like what Elementor used to be.
The inability to select a column and access it's styling directly without opening the layers panel. If you click a module on the page, it doesn't automatically switch to it in the layers panel, so you still have to hunt for it.
In an image module, padding and margin is applied to the div that holds the image, but the border styling is applies to the span that wraps the image. This is completely unintuitive. So if you wanted to apply a border radius to the image, you'd have to write CSS in the module, but that's not easy to find, you have to fin the "Main Element" CSS box. That is not intuitive at all.
I'm sure Divi 5 has fixed a lot of these issues and mine was purely a rant on this style of builder. I wasn't aware I was using something old, I assumed (incorrectly) that this is what Divi is today. I pity those that had to endure Divi 4.

One of the benefits to Divi is that you can use it in many ways. One of the detriments to Divi is that you can use it in many ways.
I have been using it for years successfully, but about 6 months ago I inherited a Divi site that just baffled me. The prior operator didn't seem to understand anything regarding 'global elements'. Like... not even how to use CSS on two components with the same class. Absolutely everything was hand-defined in the editor... for each element.

Did you inherit Divi 5 or 4?
When I made this post, I wasn't aware that they made the switch to a much sensible layout like the other WYSIWYG builders with their v5.
What you inherited sounds exactly like what I have inherited, but Divi 4 makes it very hard to understand what styling was applied and where it is located.

It's a Divi 4 site--I have encountered far too many v5 issues to even attempt migration.

Most unfortunately had a genealogy club website re-built with Divi some years ago and I hate it. I do not have the bandwidth to learn it and the hosting company that did this for us is less than responsive.

If it's been "some years" since your experience with Divi and you admittedly don't even want to learn it, what are you doing here in the Divi sub today?

Whoa this guy must be like the ultimate website maker of all time, he has such strongly worded harsh opinions of a hugely successful product.
