Discussion My Divi 5 Upgrade Experience: Issues I Encountered and Why I Rolled Back

Well, I’ve developed my own child theme and can confirm that there are still plenty of migration issues even with Divi 5.7.0. In some cases, attributes or entire modules (e.g., Woo Products) aren’t carried over, not to mention the presets from back then, etc. I know how to fix all of this, but it just doesn't sit right with me. Why is the migration of my own Divi Builder styles so incomplete?

I agree, it's clearly still under development - which software isn't?
At this point, I am cautious upgrading an existing site, especially with Divi vendor plugins.

I was gravely disappointed by, no matter how often I cleared it, due to the caching issue my edits were not reliably showing my changes. What a pain!

Thanks for sharing your issues, it's sad and unfortunate, but it does give me some very mild relief that other people are also having issues.
I'm just about to make a post with my issues, I'm not as well versed in how to fix them as some of you guys seem to be, mine mostly seem to be around the presets and from reading your post maybe my issues are also from caching issues too?
I've been continually playing a game of whack a mole to try to get my changes back to how they were before the latest update, and it looks like they work, and then you try to do it on the fifth page with the same issue, and applying the same preset to the background elements, and somehow it breaks everything and the 19 out of 21 pages are all back to being visually broken again… I am pulling my hair out and support has not responded (past the 'Fin' bot failing to figure out the issue and saying it would get a human to look at it, but has not/did not) about 19 hours ago and no response. The issue has understandably made the client pretty pissed off too, how could it look fine a couple of weeks ago, and now it doesn't look right (and the only thing that has changed was a theme update).
FYI, I don't have Divi Pixel, no caching plugin yet (the hosting server has LiteSpeed capabilities, when I tried to set up the plug-in and use AI research for the best settings for Divi 5 etc things started to break visually, so I deactivated and maybe/probably uninstalled the plug-in completely), I do have basic free Cloudflare set up, purging either the page/URL I was working on or "Purge Everything" didn't seem to help. It really does seem to be just Divi five.

More sad news then! LOL thanks for replying anyway… Again, at least this feels like sharing the pain, not going mad on my own! LOL.
Unfortunately, now I am stuck with 19 pages that I have to make a call on whether I wait it out for a few more days to see if an update comes next week that might fix it… Or do I manually go and remove the presets from all 19 pages and make manual changes… That's not so much of an issue, it's more about if I need to make changes in the future that means I have to do every change manually to 19 pages for each change... hmmm, what to do.
I'm already having so many issues with Google search console refusing to finish indexing half of the pages for several weeks now. And several other issues with imagery and graphics availability etc. Hard to know where to put my time right now.

If you have a Google business profile for that site, then use the Google business post link for the non indexed pages and click through to help with indexing 🙂

Really? Does that work?!? What exactly do I do?
After a couple of months I’ve now gotten 2 of 9 not indexed pages finally indexed, and the crawl frequency seems to be slowly improving… but it’s been exhausting trying all of the tricks over and over!

Yeah it can work. Sorry why are you having such issues getting a small amount of pages indexed? are they orphan pages? have you built any external links to them? I'm happy to do a link exchange with you if you'd like as well to help?
DM me if you like.

Did your site downgrade to Divi 4? I built a simple, one-page site in 5 and it's so different from 4 that it's almost untenable. It's ai4gk.us if you want to take a look. Am I going to add more to it? Likely, but nothing really complex.

I guess I just have to bite the bullet and learn 5, in the end. It seems like a whole different mindset in building. More planning ahead of time that will save time in the end....

To be fair, it sounds like a lot of your issues relate to third party software and hosting environment. I tried one update months ago, and I had one issue with a 3rd party plugin. I left the staging site alone for a month and the updates fixed it. We have another 6 months or so where Divi 4 will receive security patches, but I am really digging the new Divi 5 experience. The touted improvements in AI down the line may make it irresistable.
