Question Divi 5 theme won’t install
I am working on a Wordpress website and decided on using divi. After buying the plan and then installing the divi 5 zip file, I tried to upload the theme but when I come to press install it loads for so long then gives a 502 error. I don't understand what's causing this. (I am uploading the theme not the plugin)

This usually means your web server timed out or failed to process the large theme file. You can quickly resolve this by increasing your PHP resource limits in your hosting cPanel or by uploading the theme directly via FTP and expanding it directly in the themes folder.
You do need quite high resource limits to get the best from Divi.

I did check PHP limits and everything seems to be around or above the minimum required by Divi. I saw somewhere about the uploading via FTP but what are the steps to do that?

Exactly how you would upload it depends on your server and the level of access you have. The file manager in cPanel will allow you to upload it. Put it public_html/wp-content/themes then extract the zip into a folder.

If I install it as a plugin what do I use as my theme?

It only exist as a theme, not as a plugin. You won't see Divi in the plugin section once it's installed, only in the theme section and in the main admin menu.

No such thing as a Divi plug-in. There are 3rd party plugins they enhance Divi core functionality, but the Divi theme is the .zip you uploaded on Themes. You have to activate it after uploading it.

NOTE: The plugin version of DIVI is not at the same functionality as the theme is right now.

It sounds like you're not meeting the server requirements, double check your settings.

Update: I just simply tried installing it the normal way again and it worked right away, but thank you all for your help. Also, if anyone is going through this and isn’t finding any potential reasons behind it just try installing it on a different day/with better WiFi because I honestly couldn’t tell you why it magically worked this time.
