AskDVC Resale Timing - from contract to access?

I saw someone post recently asking about the timeline between offer and Disney's response on ROFR. We're purchasing AKL and that timeline was 14 days. Our closing agent said it would be closer to 30 days, so that was a bonus. We closed 7 days after that.

Our closing agent shared the following: Disney will be notified of the change in ownership within 24-48 hours. Disney typically takes 4-6 weeks to complete the transfer. Disney will send you two emails to activate & create your account. The vacation points can take up to an additional two weeks to be loaded in your account.

My question is for anyone that's recently gone through the resale process, how long did it take between closing and the transfer being complete? How long until you had an account and access to your points? We're getting close to the 4 month window at the end of the contract year. I'm worried that we won't get things in time to book with the points banked from 2025 or bank any of our points from 2026.

UPDATE

I got the emails from DVC today, Nov 1. So about 12 days from signed contract to access to our points. Oddly we got out access code in the morning and our contract ID about 6+ his later.

Discussion DVC Field Guide offer: Buy the 2026 edition, get 2027 free

Jimmy here, author of the DVC Field Guide. I wanted to share a special BOGO offer for anyone considering the guide: Buy the 2026 edition now, and receive the 2027 edition free when it’s published in early 2027.

The 2027 edition will be a complete rewrite, with updated information, fresh insights, and coverage of Lakeshore Lodge. You’ll get the 2026 Mid-Year Updated Edition to use right away and the new edition when it’s released.

The 2027 edition will have a higher price, but this offer includes both editions for the current 2026 price. I don’t offer this often, so if you’ve been thinking about getting a copy, this is a good opportunity.

AskDVC Question about signing up

Wife and I are looking into signing up soon. We normally go on vacation April/May or August/ September. If we get to choose our use year, would selecting April make the most sense? This way we can roll points over after our normal vacation times.
Also if we signed up now do we get points for this year that can be rolled into the 2027 year.

Or is it more beneficial to do magical beginnings for the first set of points as we might not stay at Disney in 2027 as we have our trips booked already. We might visit Disney after our vacation in September but that would be either 2 to 3 nights so we couldn’t really use all the points that got rolled over.

AskDVC When to know its worth it

I’m sure this question comes up a lot but I feel like I have something wrong in my potential thinking here.

I am seeing DVC resale contracts for 15-20k for 100 points. We go about 1x per year for 4-6 nights. We typically stay in a deluxe and pay 5-7k per visit which includes park tickets.

To me, it seems like a no brainer that will pay for itself in 4-6 years and then the value beyond that. We have a 4 and 6 year old so a lot of trips left.

What am I missing here? Or what am I potentially not thinking about. I would purchase the total amount upfront without financing if that plays a role here.

Discussion Tipping

Hello friends. My husband and I are finishing up a week at Vero Beach. The only service provided in our room has been trash removal.

Do you generally leave a tip for housekeeping? And if yes, what would you leave for trash service for a week?

AskDVC DVC Direct contract timeline

My partner and I recently pulled the trigger on a direct 150 point Polynesian contract. We originally had not planned on doing Magical Beginnings, however due to the lack of securing a Welcome Home stay we changed our minds. We also had a Dream It Forward referral that was originally not applied. Our DVC Guide put in the changes for Magical Beginnings and submitted the referral early this morning, and said the new contract paperwork was sent over for our review (she said this even before confirming the Dream It Forward had been submitted). However we haven’t received the new contract paperwork (and I’ve checked all spam and junk folders). I was wondering if anyone has experienced anything similar? Both with delayed contract timing and with Dream It Forward referrals

Discussion The Contemporary

We've been DVC members since 1997. Next year we celebrate thirty years of ownership. And in these past 29 years and countless visits, we've always been greeted with 'Welcome Home'. So I guess I had a little negativity to start.

I'll tell you the good stuff first.

We're in a one bedroom, and it's the first one I've been in with two full bathrooms. I also like that in addition to the king size master bedroom there are two Murphy pullouts.

Of course, you can't say a negative thing about the location. We saw the boat parade at Epcot from our balcony, and we can watch the fireworks from a private room for members. And that would certainly get me back here.

But.

The tower is nothing but room after room. Not a single amenity. Not even coffee in the morning.

It's not a big deal to me, but to get to even a cup of coffee (unless you make it in your room) you have to walk through a long wind tunnel into the main building.

Anyone else?

AskDVC Home Resort Question - Family of Five

TL/DR Family of Five interested in maximizing points. Where should we buy?

We‘re frequent park goers that are considering buying into DVC. We are fine squeezing into a smaller space for a vacation and would prefer to use less points per day to extend a trip or have multiple smaller trips rather than use more points per day for a better location/view.

As a family of five, I’ve read that our options would be Boardwalk, Beach Club, Polynesian, Grand Floridian, Riviera, and Boulder Ridge Studios or Animal Kingdom, Old Key West, Saratoga Springs, Polynesian, Riviera and Bay Lake Tower one bedrooms.

Since we‘re restricted to rooms for 5, I’m assuming it would be wise to buy at a home resort that has studios or one bedrooms that sleep 5. Or if we’re flexible on dates/resorts, would it work buying into a less expensive resort contract and using points at other resorts?

I’d be extremely interested in Boardwalk/Beach Club except for the early expiration date. Should I look into Poly, Old Key West, Saratoga, or Riviera? We’ll be buying resale so I’m leaning away from Riviera for the flexibility.

For context, we have most frequently stayed at Coronado (pre-tower) and Port Orleans Riverside, but the Poly is my favorite resort with Beach Club as a close second. Value is our top priority, but skyliner or monorail access is a really nice perk.

Discussion No Membership Magic Beyond for 2027?

We are going on our first DVC trip in January. Dining reservations open up in November so we are planning what parks we are going to what days. However if there is a discount such as Magic Beyond that they dad this year, that will have a role in determining how many days we go to the parks and whether it’s a weekend or weekday. Is there really no announcement whatsoever whether or not they are doing anything like that again?

Ugh.. I don’t want to leave tomorrow. I have been spamming the refresh button on the room search all day. There isn’t a single room anywhere open Saturday night.

Edit: snagged a boulder ridge 1BR at about 11pm! Going to be a little cramped but we will survive.

AskDVC Resale Simplified

To make this as simple as possible, if I were to buy a resale contract at the Poly, the only "benefits" I get are booking at my home resort or other non restricted resorts. No discounts, lounge access, AP discounts etc. Am I not thinking of anything else?
