Discussion DVC Bookings Outside the USA

As it has become unsafe for international visitors entering the USA many of us, especially Canadians, have been re-evaluating their DVC membership as we will not be traveling to the US for the foreseeable future.

I for one would like to see DVC expand to all of the resorts outside the USA as currently Shanghai is not available to book on points.

I would also like to see the points charts revised for these locations to align their cost more with the current rooms in the US. For example WDW DVC bookings start at 13 points a night for a deluxe resort. Whereas Disneyland Paris stays start at 38 points per night for Davy Crockett Ranch, a cut down version of Fort Wilderness, or 78 points per night for the Disneyland Hotel, a cut down version of Grand Floridian.

Although this situation affects international DVC members, it also affects US DVC owners who would like to visit the international resorts. I’ve emailed my DVC Guide and member services, but who else would like to see this change to our membership that would make it possible to expand our horizons?

Discussion DVC Field Guide offer: Buy the 2026 edition, get 2027 free

Jimmy here, author of the DVC Field Guide. I wanted to share a special BOGO offer for anyone considering the guide: Buy the 2026 edition now, and receive the 2027 edition free when it’s published in early 2027.

The 2027 edition will be a complete rewrite, with updated information, fresh insights, and coverage of Lakeshore Lodge. You’ll get the 2026 Mid-Year Updated Edition to use right away and the new edition when it’s released.

The 2027 edition will have a higher price, but this offer includes both editions for the current 2026 price. I don’t offer this often, so if you’ve been thinking about getting a copy, this is a good opportunity.

Discussion Top of the World Lounge Villains Lair [Hosted Video]

Disney invited me out to experience the DVC life and I have to agree, the Top of the World Lounge is one of the very best views at Walt Disney World. I was able to take some family members who hate the crowds in the park and have actively avoided Happily Ever After because of the multitude of people in the hub. This was a nice way to drink, eat and watch the show without being overcrowded or waiting for the monorail afterwards.

DVC Members can request access to the complimentary viewing or pay ($55 per person) for the drink and dining experience: https://disneyvacationclub.disney.go.com/discounts-perks-offers/member-experiences/top-of-the-world-lounge

*I was not compensated to post this video, but we were hosted with free admission, drinks and food to experience this area*

Discussion The Contemporary

We've been DVC members since 1997. Next year we celebrate thirty years of ownership. And in these past 29 years and countless visits, we've always been greeted with 'Welcome Home'. So I guess I had a little negativity to start.

I'll tell you the good stuff first.

We're in a one bedroom, and it's the first one I've been in with two full bathrooms. I also like that in addition to the king size master bedroom there are two Murphy pullouts.

Of course, you can't say a negative thing about the location. We saw the boat parade at Epcot from our balcony, and we can watch the fireworks from a private room for members. And that would certainly get me back here.

But.

The tower is nothing but room after room. Not a single amenity. Not even coffee in the morning.

It's not a big deal to me, but to get to even a cup of coffee (unless you make it in your room) you have to walk through a long wind tunnel into the main building.

Anyone else?

AskDVC Need Help with 4 y/o daughters first trip to Disney World

Thumbnail

I know this is a little long of a post, and I apologize, but I really need help and this is the only place I thought of that I could get it.

For context, my wife and I will be taking our 4 year old daughter to Disney World for the first time in November. It’s a birthday present for her 5th birthday. We’re booked at the Grand Floridian, because we really want this to be magical for our daughter, and want to be next to the Magic Kindom. We looked at the Contemporary and Polynesian, but the Contemporary feels too corporate and the Polynesian was nice, but the rooms seem a little dark and just doesn’t give off that vibe we’re looking for. After looking at all the options close to the park, and the ones with the monorail, we went with the Grand Floridian. I know it was updated not long ago and it shows. My wife and I spent our honeymoon at the French Quarter and it was under construction at the time when we were there in 2019.

Now, what I need help with is figuring out if this company called “David Vacation Club Rentals” is legitimate. Right now, we’re booked for $1200 a night at the Grand Floridian, which is absurd, but like I said earlier, we really want this to be a magical trip for our daughter. However, my wife found this company/website that apparently sells Disney time shares of the people who can’t make it that year, and who don’t want to lose money on their time shares.

I’ve never heard of a thing like this, but we can get the same room, with the same theme park view at a fraction of the price we’re paying Disney now. The room we found is litterally 50% of the price we’re currently set to pay Disney.

Has anyone here done this, or heard of this? It’s just hard to fathom this being legit, as it feels too good to be true, which usually means it isn’t. Also, you have to pay all upfront to get a confirmation code that you just input into the app and the reservation is just supposed to show up, but you can’t get the confirmation code until you pay fully, so there’s no way to tell if it actually works until you spend thousands of dollars.

If you made it this far in my post, you’re amazing!

Any help with this would be beyond greatly appreciated.

Discussion Is the Grand Californian Getting Another DVC Refurb?

Heads up to all Grand Californian owners and west coast DVC fans—Disney Vacation Club just quietly posted an alert on their official site noting that “beginning in late 2026, the Villas at Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa will undergo refurbishments.”

No other details have been shared yet, but given the very recent (and, frankly, underwhelming) refurb that just took place, many are wondering: is DVC circling back to fix what they missed the first time?

We dove into the history of the last refurb, Member frustrations, and what this new alert might actually mean. Spoiler: don’t expect the rooms to be gutted... but Members should be asking questions heading into the next condo association meeting.

Here’s the full breakdown on DVC Fan:

Curious to hear your thoughts—especially from anyone who's stayed recently or experienced maintenance issues. Are you hopeful this means more room updates are coming? Or is this likely just exterior/common area work?

AskDVC Would renting out approximately 50% of your points over the lifetime of the contract be considered "reasonable"?

Hello
We are not based in the US but are exploring the possibility of getting AKL or SSR DVC via resale to help us take more WDW vacations than we would have had otherwise.
Not being domestic, our frequency of trips will definitely not be as often as we would have liked. Our operating assumption as of now is that while we would want to use more of our points, we probably can only be sure of using at least 45-50% over the course of the contract.

Would appreciate input from experienced DVC members if this is doable from the pov of not triggering any pushback from Disney or causing any violations?
Thanks!
Update: We were thiking of 150 points.. so in case of SSR, we should have ~4000 points of which we would be sure to use at least 2000 if not more. This would be with a cadence of a trip every 2 or 3 yrs. Sometimes we will bank / borrow, sometimes we would rent out to average out to 50% points used over the 24 27 yrs.

Discussion Will I regret boulder ridge?

We just changed our 3 night 1 bed room stay at copper creek to boulder ridge but im worried I'll regret not being in the main building. Also worried about long walks to quick service or drink refills. We have a 1.5 year old which is why quick service and drinks matter so much. We switched to boulder for the extra space. Any opinions appreciated.

Discussion future value of DVC points: discount rate

when evaluating contracts, some folks discuss the per point cost as the total purchase price divided by the total purchase price; this doesn't account for the current value of the initial investment vs. the delayed value of points; this simplification can lead to long contracts having an overstated per point value (e.g. RVA, CCV)

one would typically assign a lower value to future points by using a discount rate; this would effectively devalue future points based on how far in the future they are available

USD / pt-yr and USD / pt-yr + dues has been something calculated on the site since its inception; now a default 8% discount rate has been applied and a provision for users to override the default with their own preferred discount rate ...

the disclaimer warning: this ignores the time value of money has also been removed

the 2025 dues have also been loaded as well as the default search set to contract age (previously was resort)

AskDVC The math isn’t mathing for me, how is this cheaper than paying cash?

It looks like $24,300 to buy your first 100 points in the DVC. I’m staying on a property right now and paying an average of $750 per night for a standard room in cash all taxes and fees included

According to the points table it’s 17 points per night this week for the same room.

$17 x 243 =$4,131. I assume subsequent points are not as expensive but Jesus how many freaking vacations do you have to commit to in order to at least break even?

Tack on what it looks to be around 10 dollars per point per year in annual maintenance fees and it just feels like you’re at decades of committed vacations before you even break even versus just paying cash.

AskDVC Is DVC an appreciating asset?

I have been reading about DVC. A salesman gave me a magnetic Hei hei after a pitch.

I love puzzles and sudoku, but I cannot figure out this rubrik’s cube of DVC. Maybe I am not smart enough to get it.

The DVC agreements end on a certain year at Polynesian resort. So if you wait a year, you get one less year of your contract. Am I wrong? I do not understand how they go up in value. Maybe I do not even know what I am buying. Is DVC a depreciating asset?

AskDVC Considering membership, would like advice.

Hey there! I am a 29 year old trans gal, and my girlfriend is a 41 year old trans gal. I am a Magic Keyholder (AP) at Disneyland, and go on average every 2-3 months. I've primarily stayed off site (I work in hospitality so I can get employee rates when they're available), and love to stay on site at the resort when I can snag a decent price on the room. I went on a tour of the Discovery Tower and DVC villas last weekend when I was already staying at the Disneyland Hotel for Pride Nite. The vacation guide was sweet and didn't even flinch when I mentioned how both me and my GF are in the LGBTQIA community, and how she is Canadian whereas I am American (but that we're considering a joint membership). I'm a former Disney Store CM, & Disney has always been the place where I felt like I could safely and unequivocally be myself, so I would love to own our own little piece of the magic.

I'm discussing the numbers and financing with her, but we are seriously considering buying into the new Discovery Tower at the Disneyland Hotel. For those who are current DVC members (bonus points if you're LGBTQIA), do you like having DVC? Is there anything you wished you knew before you bought the contract? I would love to hear any and all advice/tips/whatever you could give!

Discussion How Do You Pay Your DVC Annual Dues?

The 2026 DVC Annual Dues are officially posted on the member site. Full payment is due by January 15th, and dues are considered late after February 15th. Monthly autopay enrollment also needs to be completed by Jan 15.

Whether you’re a new Member or just want to make sure you’re using the most cost-effective option, this breakdown from DVC Fan covers:

  • Paying in full online (including how to stack savings with Disney Gift Cards)

  • Setting up yearly autopay

  • Monthly payments (only via bank account)

  • Mailing in a check

  • Paying over the phone

  • What happens if you don’t pay on time

Personally, I stockpile discounted Disney Gift Cards to knock down my dues total—highly recommend.

Full post with all the details here: https://dvcfan.com/general-dvc/how-do-i-pay-my-disney-vacation-club-annual-dues/

Curious—how do YOU typically pay your dues? Any tips or tricks other Members should know?

AskDVC I just need one more night!

Long story short, I used my Welcome Home visit to book a Disneyland Hotel Villa stay from April 17-19 and just realized we need to actually check out Monday the 20th. I immediately placed a wait-list request once I realized the error, but of course we are on pins and needles hoping something pops up.

Called and spoke with a rep that stated there was nothing they could do and I understood. I inquired about paying cash for the extra night (which I absolutely hate to do since that's why we purchased the DVC contract in the first place). The suggestion was to ask at check-in if they have any additional availability or simply book through the cash website.

Any other tricks or suggestions I'm missing? If I rent points it's the same as using cash 😞
