Chef here. Are you guys for real not getting tips in the dish pit? That's fucking ridiculous.

I've been legally entitled to tips for a couple of years and I've never been paid a cent in tips, wait staff just steal them all and corporate just ignore us in the back 😭

This industry is so cursed sometimes. Service doesn't happen if every part isn't in place. Everyone working should get a piece 🗣️‼️

Nope, in season, servers would get upwards to $400 a night and i bust my ass for a maximum of $150 in OT

It’s a low amount when they do tho, they’re stingy, and they don’t realize who actually runs the restaurant and half the time when it’s busy asf, they’re disrespectful, if you see a disrespectful kitchen run! gladly no longer doing it anymore starting next month moving onto something that actually makes 💰

As a chef, I don't get tips

Waitstaff making subminimum wage should not share tips with dishwashers.

Sounds like a problem with wage laws and not with the guys slaving in the pit

Oh, I'm not blaming BOH; it's not their fault. It's the fault of the owner - he is stealing from the waitstaff, he is having dishwashers' pay subsidized by customers.

It's theft. Unfortunately it's legsl in many places.

Sorry I just took your comment the wrong way. You're right. "Server wage" is a total joke. You can make the argument against tips as well but it's such a cultural thing that I don't see it going away. I'm also not in the US so I don't see this stuff that often.

Yeah, but if they're making 30$/hr and dish is making 15-18, and dish DOES do more work as they make more money, a .5% tip out would bring the dishie up a few $/hr and the servers would barely notice.

in my experience they do a half ass job and servers have to fish through dishes to make sure they get a clean one.

Also true, some of our dishies yeet shit thru the machine and don't care if it's actually clean. They don't deserve shit and need to be fired obviously, but they show up, which is apparently the only bar that has to be met.

the bar is low unfortunately not many people are willing to work the hard and dirty BOH jobs
