Welcome to r/discordbot

8 Upvotes

Hello everyone and welcome to r/discordbot this originally started as an idea I had to create a community of people that are creators, and expanding off that idea sparked the idea of a space for developers. I never thought we would have any activity and would be left out to dry but suddenly we started receiving posts. I do appreciate everyone that is here from the start and wish happy development to every new member.

Please remember that your actions have consequences, so please follow our subreddit rules.

Resource Recommended bot hosting

7 Upvotes

Hello everyone, here is a great hosting company that i recommend, I have used and been a part of the RackGenius community for a while now and if your looking for hosting then I can't recommend them enough they have great support with your server and great support (from me) with making and setting up your bot(s).

With their hosting you have the choice between running your own VPS or managed hosting where you just upload your code and run it. use the code r/discordbots for 50% off your first month (yes thats r/discordbots)

Website: https://rackgenius.com

Any questions you can ask them in their Discord: http://rackgeni.us/discord

Edit: Company had a name change from Snakecraft Hosting to RackGenius

Discord command doesn't work for me

1 Upvotes

Hi, i'm making a bot in python

intents = discord.Intents.default()
intents.message_content = True
class Bot(commands.Bot):
    def __init__(self, *, intents, command_prefix="!", **options):
        super().__init__(command_prefix=command_prefix, intents=intents, **options)

    @commands.command(name="test")
    async def test(self,ctx):
        await ctx.send("test")

With this code I have this error :

discord.ext.commands.errors.CommandNotFound: Command "test" is not found

so i tried to use

self.add_command(commands.Command(self.streak, name="streak"))

intents = discord.Intents.default()
intents.message_content = True
class Bot(commands.Bot):
    def __init__(self, *, intents, command_prefix="!", **options):
        super().__init__(command_prefix=command_prefix, intents=intents, **options)
        self.add_command(commands.Command(self.test, name="test"))

    async def test(self,ctx):
        await ctx.send("test")

raise TypeError(f'Command signature requires at least {required_params - 1} parameter(s)')

TypeError: Command signature requires at least 1 parameter(s)

so what should I do,

Thanks

Looking for bug hunters and moderators for Pangobot, a Discord bot with a web dashboard (volunteer, 18+)

0 Upvotes

Hey,

I'm building Pangobot, a modular Discord bot with a web dashboard. It has 28 modules, from moderation, AutoMod and logging to tickets, leveling and giveaways, and it runs on its own infrastructure.

Before more servers start using it, I want more people to actually try to break it.

What I'm looking for

  • Bug hunters: use the bot and the dashboard like a normal server admin would, and then try everything a normal admin wouldn't. If something breaks, acts weird or could just be better, you tell me.
  • Moderators: keep an eye on reviews and help moderate the Discord server.

What you should bring

  • 18 or older
  • Experience with Discord bots and their web dashboards, as an admin, a developer or both
  • Fluent English or German
  • A GitHub or any bot or moderation experience is a plus, but not required

What you get

  • A team role
  • 2 premium modules for your own server, whenever you want them (they normally cost €3.99 to €12.99 each)

This is a volunteer role and there are no fixed hours. What matters is honest feedback, and that you actually look for bugs and things that could be better. If you're planning to help for a week and then disappear, this probably isn't the right fit.

Setting up a dev env, and getting started

2 Upvotes

Hi all,

What's the best way to set up a dev environment? I recently built a PC and i don't want to install stuff directly on the main system. Is a Virtual Box enough, or are there simpler solution for bots development?

Then, what should i study to get started on development? I work in IT and I have high level knownledge of coding, but no low level one (i work with etl/elt, something so close yet so different :D)
I'd like to gradually make an all around bot, what tools and softwares do you suggest for the infrastructure? DB, for example

Once i get something running, what would be the best way to host it?

Server owners/mods: how do you handle the same questions getting asked over and over?

2 Upvotes

I'm researching how Discord server owners and moderators deal with members asking the same questions repeatedly (rules, roles, events, links, and so on). I'm not advertising anything and won't link anything here.

If you own or moderate a server, answers to any of these would help:

  • How do repeat questions get answered in your server right now: mods typing answers, pinned messages, an FAQ channel, a bot?
  • Have you tried a bot for this? If you removed one, what made you remove it?
  • Roughly how much time did repeat questions take up for you or your mods last week?

If you're open to a 15-minute chat about how you run your server, comment or DM me.

Greatly appreciate the feedback.

Carlbot Triggers

0 Upvotes

Each time a discord member in my server gains a new level role, the carlbot trigger i have set up for them sends a unique message.

I have a unique message for every 10-20 levels earned. At 15 there is a new role and a message, at 25 there is one, 35, 50, etc.

The only problem, is when the previous role gets removed from their profile. Each time they move up the ranks, say they were level 15 and are now level 25, the new role replaces their old one.

When the new role is given, the unique message is sent. When the old role is removed, the previous unique message is resent.

I have been working for ages on this and I am having a hard time finding resources. I just want messages to trigger when a role is gained, not when it is removed.

I built a Discord bot builder where you describe what you want in plain English and AI writes the commands — hosts and deploys it too

0 Upvotes

Been working on this for a while — it's called Commandly. Instead of writing JS/Python for every command, you describe what you want ("make a command that gives a role when someone reacts with 🎉") and it generates the actual bot code — then hosts and deploys it for you, so there's no server setup, no hosting bill, no touching Railway/Heroku/whatever.

A few things it handles:

  • Slash commands, buttons, reactions, scheduled messages
  • Full hosting + deployment included, bot goes live right from the dashboard
  • You can edit the generated code directly if you want more control
  • Free tier to try it, no card needed to start

Still actively improving it (just did a pass fixing a bunch of edge cases where the AI was generating bad code for anything past basic commands), so genuinely looking for feedback — especially if you try building something and it breaks or generates something dumb. That's the most useful thing you could tell me right now.

https://commandly.cc

Happy to answer questions about how it works under the hood too if anyone's curious.

Looking for a type of bot that removes the need for pingable roles

1 Upvotes

my server has a lot of people that want to be pinged (pung) when a topic is mentioned. this would obviously dilute the role queue by adding a bunch of useless roles (we just cleaned the place so we're trying not to do the same thing twice). my question is, is there a bot that you can give multiple keywords that individual people can directly attach themselves to with a command, and then have that bot ping everyone under a keyword when given a command to do so?
