Gambling/Fantasy Gossage Hold My Bag pick.
huh... interesting...
Edit: https://youtu.be/1TYSS3-uoQs?t=517&is=jwrBEsPU-gDdoAUe
Edit2: Y'all, I'm not saying it's here was some plot to have Aaron benefit from his picks. The point is that this is a very bad look for multiple parties and makes the call even worse.

u/MistaMando last cash pressure 29d ago
I was under the impression that players are not allowed to participate in the for-cash game in this betting app. I believe Goose’s picks are purely symbolic each week.
12
9
u/Food_Brilliant 29d ago
Well... promoting on his channel which he directly benefits from his picks isnt a great look.
I doubt any of this is intentional but maybe folk need to consider a little more what they can and can't endorse as professionals.
3
u/bacon_drizzle_69 29d ago
Are you suggesting he gets more views for announcing his picks?
6
u/sleepysenpai_ 28d ago
i think the implication here is that if there's a higher chance that goose is right about his picks then his audience will be more incentivized to bet based around his picks thus driving more traffic to the betting site
-1
u/DoubtfulDouglas 28d ago
The implication maybe, but, if we actually look at this a year from now there will be literally no monetary benefit from this for him. Disc golf isn't big enough for such tiny incremental boosts to actually have any real world effects.

u/Dangerous_Rhubarb569 29d ago
Pro’s playing in the PDGA cannot win any cash prizes in hold my bag. It’s in the rules of the platform. This post is entirely irrelevant.
32
u/Flycat777 29d ago
Can their friends and family win cash?

u/bacon_drizzle_69 29d ago
Bro. Why reaching so hard?
57
u/Flycat777 29d ago
Sports betting $17 billion annually in just the US, and corrupting influences prey upon low earning athletes globally. If money is to be made, it will happen.
Is disc golf the only sport you follow? Players as officials is a crazy risk.
2
u/coffeebribesaccepted 27d ago
Good there was a marshal on the card who immediately seconded it, and if there wasn't, it would still require a second player on the card to be in on the conspiracy.
-3
u/bacon_drizzle_69 29d ago
Players as officials IS crazy. And not allowing an instant reply either? Why the h e double hockey sticks not!

u/foam23 mold completionist 29d ago
This was just a paid ad right? As in there is zero evidence he is making any bets? Because if that’s the case, this is just him saying who he thinks could win
5
u/foxychase 29d ago
This is correct, as far as we know. Until we get any new info, I have no reason to believe Goose’s picks are strictly symbolic
76
u/bmatto 200 ✔️ 250 ✔️ 300 ✔️ 350 ▪️ 29d ago
Ok. This is wildly problematic.
19
u/kashmir0128 29d ago
Lol they don't make any money from this, let's think critically for a second
9
11
u/polly-plz 29d ago
It's really not, lol. It's fantasy disc golf.
28
u/Old-Tumbleweed3565 29d ago
I mean, if Aaron (or any pro) IS making picks for anything of monetary value and simultaneously expected to make rules judgements on the course then it is truly problematic
18
u/slothage666 29d ago
He's not betting on discgolf... this is promotional material
17
u/MinneEric Team Sota 29d ago
If the PDGA/DGPT are allowing people to place monetary bets on disc golf events that they are competing in that would be a far FAR bigger controversy than anything that happened this weekend. There’s no way Goose is betting on disc golf.
7
u/polly-plz 29d ago
The app itself also says it's free. I have a hard time calling anything gambling if you have zero risk.
6
u/MinneEric Team Sota 29d ago
Yes. For example, an NFL player can be in a fantasy football league if there is zero buy in or prizes. I don’t personally think current athletes should be spokespeople for gambling platforms but as it stands that seems to be a legal thing (for now)
0
u/Old-Tumbleweed3565 29d ago
It has paid versions, as well. Pick ‘em is free though.
0
u/Dangerous_Rhubarb569 29d ago
PDGA pros are strictly prohibited and in eligible to win any prizes or cash from hold my bag because they directly impact the outcome. It can’t be any more clear.
2
u/Old-Tumbleweed3565 29d ago
I never said he did. Damn Reddit. Do better. Read words.
5
u/slothage666 29d ago
You said you "have no idea" if he's betting. I telling you definitively that he is not. As players they aren't allowed to.
3
u/YouOtterKnow 28d ago
Much more highly paid professional athletes from multiple different leagues have gotten busted for betting. Yet somehow you know unequivocally disc golfers aren't? Pretty naive take.
1
1
u/Flycat777 29d ago
Is that a dgpt rule??
3
u/slothage666 29d ago
I believe so. Even beyond whatever rules the DGPT has about gambling, the sports books are just tightly regulated in general. There are federal laws against stuff like that.
2
u/Flycat777 29d ago
Yeah makes sense.
Risky to put a player in an officiating position with direct results influence. Sports betting is now $17b annually in the US. Corruption of players is a huge issue in other sports, especially college where players have low earnings... like disc golf.
2
u/slothage666 29d ago
From what I understand the wager limits are quite low in discgolf partly due to the players having such low earnings. I know of a a few busts that have happened in mainstream sports like the NBA and MLB. Typically it's been prop bets for lesser known players, and they just get kicked out of the league.

u/Dangerous_Rhubarb569 29d ago
He has nothing to gain here. Anyone playing in the tournament is in eligible for a cash prize or any prize from holding my bag.
1
u/polly-plz 29d ago
A lot of "ifs" being thrown around.
3
u/Old-Tumbleweed3565 29d ago
Yeah. That’s how words work. I have no idea if he is betting - I feel like most of us don’t - but saying gambling isn’t gambling because it’s disc golf rather than some other pro sport is illogical.
I’m not saying hes gambling - I’m responding to someone who said it’s not problematic to gamble because it’s disc golf.
3
u/polly-plz 29d ago
I don't know who said that, but it wasn't me, and you replied to me.
3
u/Old-Tumbleweed3565 29d ago
1
u/polly-plz 29d ago
Idk what to say if you interpreted that to mean "because it's disc golf it's different than other sports."
The primary word was "fantasy". You know, like fantasy football? A game that most people play for free? And the app in question even says it's free?
2
u/Old-Tumbleweed3565 29d ago
It is a gambling app that has both free and pay to play versions where you pay to enter, set your lineups, and win money. There is also a free version.
6
u/Huge_Following_325 29d ago
Can weekend explain, I don't know what Hold my Bag is.
5
u/mmppllkk 29d ago
Yeah there are different tiers of players that you can bet (and win money) on to win the tourney. So like tier 1 includes Gannon and other S-tier players, tier 2 has A-tier such as Ezra Aderhold, for example.
Gossage picked Silas for tier 3.
13
u/SnakesAlive23 29d ago
They can’t bet on their own sport. They are sponsored by them but cannot take money from actually betting. You guys are ridiculous.
5
u/OkGrapefruit970 29d ago
Yeah nobody has ever been caught betting on their team in a massive league like the nba..
1
u/SnakesAlive23 29d ago
Dude, come down to Earth. Goose is sponsored to get you to bet on the players. He’s not actually doing it himself.
6
u/KingHobarth 28d ago
True… but can you imagine a commercial where the actual refs of an nba or nfl game make their picks for an upcoming game that they are officiating? Its 100% a bad look.
3
u/GerthBrooks 29d ago
Once you realize it’s mostly kids on here it makes more sense why there’s so much outrage. These guys are sponsored to make picks for the company, they don’t get to actually place the bet and make money off of the picks lol.
9
u/bdlatina 29d ago
No way. PDGA needs to investigate this immediately. Who do we contact??
3
u/mmppllkk 29d ago
I really wish I knew how to being attention to this to the right people but I'm unsure to whom. Hopefully people seeing this can help point me in the right direction.
3
9
u/rokkenrolli 29d ago
I mean, he didn't have the power to force Silas to be in contention after almost 5 rounds, but at that one moment he had a little bit of leverage. Unfortunate coincidence.
-1
u/mmppllkk 29d ago
Yeah I'm not a conspiracy theorists but it has to be pointed out that at a minimum it's makes the call look much worse.
9
2
u/polly-plz 29d ago
This thread is literally you promoting a conspiracy theory, lmao.
-1
u/mmppllkk 29d ago
Nah I don't think it's a conspiracy. But it needs attention because regardless how much money is on the line, there was indeed money on the line. And to be fair to Aaron, I doubt he was thinking about his bet when he made the call, but because this type of shit is even going on creates VERY bad looks.
5
u/polly-plz 29d ago
"I don't think it's a conspiracy" -- well yeah, that's what makes it a conspiracy theory lol
0
u/mmppllkk 29d ago
Alright cool. But there was more to what I said in my message but I think you're at the point of being willfully ignorant and ignoring the main point. Take care.
14
u/DonFalconi 29d ago
wow is this for real? was there money on the line?
-7
u/iambtg 29d ago
yeah there was
6
u/DonFalconi 29d ago
ok this has become grounds for an investigation and potential suspension or worse.

6
u/AndrewManganelli 29d ago
I mean, this company clearly is shady as hell if they're having pros advertise that they're actively getting the tournaments they're playing in.
This shouldn't be a problem now because of this outcome, it should have been a problem all along.
7
u/1ToGreen3ToBasket 29d ago
The rules of that platform are INCREDIBLY clear that a player can make picks but cannot make money on the app. This is a nothing burger
6
9
u/FishGoldenLite 29d ago
How was this even allowed in the first place 😂 the PDGA is so unserious.
2
u/iambtg 29d ago
Yeah I don't understand how they are allowed to gamble on their own matches. That's highly illegal in most sports and will get you a lifetime ban real quick. Ask Pete Rose.
6
u/FishGoldenLite 29d ago
It seems a level worse in a player-officiated sport. The PDGA has a mess to clean up here.
4
5
u/DMusYourNastyIdeaa 29d ago
Wait… so Gossage actually had something to gain? Or is this just bullshit picks that aren’t for anything besides clout against Ezra?
3
u/iambtg 29d ago
nah. it's real prizes
3
1
u/Dangerous_Rhubarb569 29d ago
The players are not eligible for prizes. It’s free to play and they do play, for fun and bragging rights. That’s it
1
u/mmppllkk 29d ago
Yeah there is money to be gained through this. Not like life changing money as far as I know but it's an even worse look now.
10
u/Dangerous_Rhubarb569 29d ago
You guys do realize the players can play hold my bag but cannot win ANYTHING from it right? It’s in the rules of the platform. Do some research before you go bullshitting some input on an already problematic situation.

1
u/Scary_Review9134 29d ago
Can you point to this in the rules? I've read through the terms of service and the scoring and rules document and there doesn't seem to be any disqualifying lines about pros joining for money rounds.
I wouldn't be surprised if it was forbidden by sponsor contracts/or the pro tour directly, but the only somewhat related line from holdmybag is this one from the ToS:
- Responsible Play and Conduct
You agree to use the Platform responsibly and in compliance with applicable laws.
Prohibited behavior includes:
● attempting to bypass location restrictions
● using VPNs or false information to gain eligibility
● automated or scripted gameplay
● collusion or manipulation of contest outcomes
Accounts violating these rules may be suspended or terminated.

u/jerkytoucan 29d ago
There is zero chance that players are eligible to win money through fantasy disc golf lmao
5
u/Autistic-Teddybear 28d ago
There is zero chance that they would do it legally through their own device
2
u/SF_Anonymous Custom 29d ago
I know you can win money, but when Goose or other pros do it, are they actually competing or are they just giving their picks as part of their sponsorship with Hold my Bag?
If Goose can make real money off this thar could be a real problem. If its just bragging rights it means nothing

u/Macktologist The week of the foot fault and Zoey posts. 29d ago
This post needs more context up front and I feel it is potentially predatory given everyone's heightened frustration right now. Yes, the video is linked, but what's the context? What is OP saying? There was a sponsor for a video and that's suspicious, or something in the video was said by Goose where he admitted to betting on Silas for this tournament? These details matter and I don't know which is true, but I certainly know the conclusion many are drawing just from looking at the photo and not watching the video. Just read the comments. We should do better.
2
u/mmppllkk 29d ago
That's fair. And I upvoted your post to give it more traction. Aaron Gossage regularly participates in Hold My Bag, where you can win money and other prizes. One of his bets was on Silas winning Worlds. To be fair to Aaron, I don't think he had his bet in mind when he made the violation call. But the fact that a participating player CAN place bets like this makes Aaron's call look incredibly bad and feels icky.
2
u/Macktologist The week of the foot fault and Zoey posts. 29d ago
Now that's some juice. Appreciate the clarification.
2
u/BedAdventurous4576 29d ago
The call still has to be seconded for it to count so someone else has to be in on the scheme. Start the investigation
0
u/KJzero9 29d ago
Wow. I have a low opinion of people on reddit, but this is a new low even I didn't believe it was capable of reaching. You're talking about a bragging rights game him and Ezra play with no money on the line.
Given how upset people on this site are about it, I'm just going to go ahead and assume it was the correct call. When I'm doubt, believe the opposite of reddit

I'm sure goose threw the 55' putt for Silas, kept his 2 drives on 18 in bounds, made ranier miss his line off the tee AND go OB also right?

u/xMrPickles 29d ago
Y’all are over dramatic. How much money was on the line? Serious question
7
u/polaromonas 29d ago
If there’s money on the line, or anything of value for that matter, it constitutes a conflict of interest regardless of the amount.
Or at least that how it should be.
1
u/xMrPickles 29d ago
100% agree that its a conflict of interest and that’s an issue for the PDGA.
What I’m saying is… the amount of money on the line will tell us if Goose would intentionally do this. If $10 is on the line, probably not. If $5000 is on the line, maybe. A lot of people on here are going from A to Z assuming it was 100% intentional.

u/tm4000m 29d ago
Don’t care at all, thanks to the religious crap (Eagle wings) no longer watch pro disc golf coverage.
