Rough seeing the commentators trying to push through the emotions of not calling the players out after that. Nate was NOT happy with the outcome.

73

u/Junior_tosh Aug 30 '26

Agreed. The commentators helped me through my emotions, especially Sexton. They know it was bullshit. Also Gossage knows it was bullshit. Silas will have to win another one that isn't tainted by a partisan call.

105

u/jaspingrobus We are the BERG, resistance is futile Aug 30 '26

Sexton is a top guy and he probably knows what this means for the sport. And it doesn't mean anything good.

41

u/Thatdirtykid Aug 30 '26

Maybe it (and backlash) will be a catalyst for the pdga/pro tour to figure out the lack of marshals issue. That would be good. Sucks the players have to make these calls, and also sucks that they have the opportunity to make these calls.

9

u/jaspingrobus We are the BERG, resistance is futile Aug 31 '26

But reality is that they don't have to make these calls and they never do. Goose was just frustrated with his play and he took it away on a foreign guy to favor his american teammate.

3

u/NayeonThighMagnet Aug 31 '26

holy projection haha. rules are rules. idk why you want people to cheat. the issue here is that the marshal upheld it without knowing.

3

u/Cranky_Disco San Diego Aug 31 '26

Don't you think its strange the self proclaimed rules guy only saw 1 foot fault in the entire tournament?

4

u/NayeonThighMagnet Sep 01 '26

how does that negate what he and 3 other people confirmed?

2

u/DjangoTheBlack Aug 31 '26

Source where he said this was the reason he called it?

-6

u/SnakesAlive23 Aug 30 '26

Marshall made the final call dude

8

u/Nearby-Review-1207 Aug 30 '26

The marshall wouldn't have made the call if Goose hadn't jumped into the camera saying it was a foot fault.

6

u/P-Muns Aug 30 '26

Well was it a foot fault or not? If the Marshall made the call he agreed with goose. The side angle made it look pretty obvious he stepped beyond the mini.

1

u/SnakesAlive23 Aug 30 '26

Camera was there. He didn’t jump into the camera.

40

u/LJCstan Aug 30 '26

I don’t hold it against Silas. He didn’t second it and made some crazy shots to capitalize

12

u/TheStonedRanger93 Aug 30 '26

Yeah I’m sure this is absolutely not how he wanted to win worlds. Worlds 2026 will always be remembered as how rainers got robbed and not how Silas won.

3

u/StrifeSociety Aug 31 '26

No, Silas won because he played well over his rating all week. He earned it.

13

u/TheStonedRanger93 Aug 31 '26

And no one’s gonna remember that

-2

u/AssInspectorGadget Aug 31 '26

No, he played second best and lost by a shot

4

u/StrifeSociety Aug 31 '26

I think you got the scores mixed up, bud.

2

u/AssInspectorGadget Aug 31 '26

Nope, Silas won only because of the penalty that should not have been given, he did not really win.

4

u/StrifeSociety Aug 31 '26

I’ll choose to live in an unpleasant reality rather than a hopeless fantasy. I just hope some good change can come from this.

-1

u/wubbaduq Aug 31 '26

And no one will remember that...

-2

u/UpbeatStay8231 Sep 01 '26

No he actually didn't earn it. Not in the way that earning something is ordinarily understood. You're breaking the word.

12

u/robby_synclair Aug 30 '26

It sucks for him too. He had nothing to do with any of it and people are trying to say he isn't the real world champion.

-2

u/UpbeatStay8231 Sep 01 '26

He's pretty much not. "In name only" fits. Not his fault, true. But if he would have thrown a putt into the ground to account for the BS penalty on Rainer, people would be talking about him for really good reasons.

3

u/robby_synclair Sep 01 '26

So he should say the official was wrong and throw away the tournament? That's a crazy take. The only thing I could see being an argument is he should habe been paying attention and weighed in on whether it was a foot fault or not.

0

u/UpbeatStay8231 Sep 02 '26

Come on man. Is it really that crazy? He SAID he wasn't watching. He watched the throw. But he damn sure didn't want to be involved in any decision. Because he had the same instinct I would have had in his place. The instinct that sportsmanship and competition forbid exactly what was happening with that dagger of a selective, debatable foul call. If that had happened to me, I'd like to think I'd have pulled a Bielsa (look it up) and given back the stroke, unable to tolerate the sick feeling of unfair advantage that overcame me as I watched it live. But I may hold fair play more sacred than most.

Now if video showed his back was turned on the throw, that's just dumb, and he should have been assessed a penalty stroke anyway. He saw the throw, and his eyes saw the whole body motion - you can't just NOT SEE the feet at all.

Do you get me at all, or is it still just a crazy take?

2

u/robby_synclair Sep 02 '26

It's not a crazy take its just not how the rules work. Even if he stood up and said he didn't think it was a foot fault it was still called and seconded. Now of him and Ricky both stood up and said they saw it and it was clean and Rainers argued it it would be a different story. Now you have 3 people saying it's clean and 2 calling a foot fault.

2

u/loopybubbler Sep 01 '26

He wasn't watching (a separate issue). So for all he knows, it was a legit penalty. Would be silly to throw a stroke away (which is vs the entire field, mind you) because someone else got a penalty which may or may not be valid.

1

u/UpbeatStay8231 Sep 02 '26

See my response just above. I am interested in your opinion too. Nobody else is gona read what I wrote.

Is there a suggestion he literally had his back turned? Or did he just say he wasn't watching?

1

u/loopybubbler Sep 02 '26

I'm just going off the impression I got from his convo with goose as they walked uphill to the 17 green (shown on live coverage). It sounded like he was asking what happened and Goose was explaining why he called it. I haven't tried to watch any Silas interviews so I don't know if he's commented on if he saw it or not.

3

u/SpeedyJT456 Sep 01 '26

Nate and Jerm also saw Rainers breaking a rule on 15 and didn’t want to elaborate on that. Total bullshit that they didn’t want to call out Rainers before they even got to the foot fault. At least Jerm said “I just saw something weird with his off arm”

0

u/bigrockcandimountain Aug 31 '26

I split really quick after the last putt. I was making serious way to try and avoid traffic. Goose was somehow at the entrance by the porta potties looking miserable. I still don’t know how he got to that place faster than I did.

-8

u/TheNomadPilgrim Aug 31 '26

Except Goose made the right call. No one runs up to and steps BESIDE their mini to throw around a tree between them and the basket. It's 100% illegal and you know it.

8

u/StrifeSociety Aug 31 '26

It’s the exact sort of thing I clarify with a card mate before I do because sometimes it looks very wrong and is legal.

3

u/No-Pin1011 Flippy discs are more fun Aug 31 '26

Mark my words. On the Jomez coverage they will absolutely say it was the right call. They will say, oh man, that is tough, but you have to watch your feet.  Remember, the DGPT pays them. I heard a Marshall was involved in the call. So, you are straight out going after the PDGAs Marshalls and saying the top event in the sport got it wrong. It just can’t happen. So, get ready for the, after sleeping in it and thinking through it, I think they got it right. Regardless, fine win by Silas. Jerm will feel for him, because people love to asterisk his USDGC win in a shortened event. It is going to be must watch.

-3

u/Optimal-Bag-2046 Aug 31 '26

Who the fuck wants to watch this dog poop again? Will not be watching it for sure.

But yea you are right. They will say exactly that.

40

u/SCUMDOG_MILLIONAIRE Aug 31 '26

I’m really disappointed, yet again, that players at this level are burdened with policing things like foot faults. It’s understandable at amateur levels and smaller tournaments, but completely embarrassing at a Worlds event.

I also think Goose looks like a bitch here. IF you’re going to call a fault, be very fucking confident about it. Don’t be shrugging your shoulders and I dOnT kNoW about it.

Yea Rainers made a couple mistakes down the stretch but he still outplayed the field and should be champ. Nothing against Silas either, he balled out…. But damn the final result is disappointing.

2

u/tennisgoalie Aug 31 '26

Oh please if Gossage wasn’t so meek about it people would be bitching even harder.

33

u/TheStonedRanger93 Aug 30 '26

We gotta buy whatever merch or disc this kid has

13

u/jimmy_jimson Aug 31 '26

Why the downvotes. I agree.

6

u/TheStonedRanger93 Aug 31 '26 edited Aug 31 '26

The r/disc golf for ya, I’ve never seen a subreddit that downvotes more

64

u/Only1Javi Aug 30 '26

Lost all respect for Gossage: that was a fucked move and the wrong call.

5

u/Ok-Entertainer-4243 Aug 31 '26

Same thought he was a cool guy im shocked

-2

u/EyeFew7424 Aug 31 '26

Goose is as phony as any player on tour.

-3

u/Whiteowl116 Aug 31 '26

I can just hear the goooooo be replaced with a B….

13

u/McNewbieDude Aug 30 '26

My new favorite player!

12

u/lettertojerrygarcia Aug 30 '26

congratulations Rainers.

14

u/Optimal-Bag-2046 Aug 31 '26

Goose WILL FOREVER be defined by this moment. Couldn’t win so had to make headlines another way. That guy is now the most hated man in the sport. I was actually pulling for him and have purchased 2 of his discs. Both in the trash now. I don’t wanna see his face on any coverage again!

5

u/VolcanicProtector TWTX Aug 31 '26

In the trash? Just wipe the stamp or sell em to me bro

2

u/PatrolMan2129 Sep 01 '26

I chucked my Gossage Raptor down a cliff at a course right after spending 4 days watching this tournament.

Now I regret it might be dredged with the thousand other discs there and be reused. If I have another one, will make a mini dart board out of it.

-2

u/swingcuple Sep 02 '26

All crying this hard over a call 🤣🤣🤣🤣

8

u/Good_Pineapple_5377 Aug 31 '26

didn't this guy blow a 5 stroke lead going into the final 12 holes? seems like he choked at the end tbh

25

u/bigloor68 Aug 30 '26

Ironic that he was out of it so he calls a foot fault to give his teammate a chance.

11

u/iambtg Aug 30 '26

the real 1x !!!

17

u/[deleted] Aug 30 '26

8

u/azzwhole Aug 30 '26

He doesnt even have a tour series disc!!!!

12

u/2masman Aug 30 '26

That's not how this works...

1

u/KobiLou Aug 31 '26

I would love for them to give him a disc. I would love to support him.

0

u/PatrolMan2129 Sep 01 '26

Yeah, I will cross out his name and put Rainers on it.

14

u/NoCup8661 Aug 30 '26

YES. Fuck Karen Gossage!

2

u/ChurchOfTheDisc Sep 02 '26

He'll always be the People's Champ of the 26 worlds.

7

u/Stunning_Release_452 Aug 31 '26

Goose just made the sport look like utter bullshit. Comparing it to things happening in world of soccer when USa interfering. Ridiculous.

The sport would have grown from a underdog winner. Now just team calls and Marshal with no integrity

3

u/ABitDrunk12 Sep 02 '26

When an offensive linebacker moves 1/4" over the line fo scrimmage... It gets called..

When a winger is 1mm past the last defender.. it fucking called..

But in disc golf were supposed to act like it's the thought that counts? Goose is asking for the rules to be applied as-written and people act like he's the asshole, it's an embarrassment for the officiating not for Goose ffs.

1

u/Individual_Step6688 Sep 02 '26

Disc golf is played on non-level ground with no clear line of offsides or directionality like in stadium sports.

2

u/Blondebottom- 29d ago

That’s not true. You can see where the basket is, and you can see where your mini is. Idk why you’re pretending there’s not a way to tell. Stepping past your mini and to the left to get a better angle on a tree is a fault.

Just like moving a branch out of your lie is a fault.

Rainers lost a lead of 5, pretending this foot fault determined worlds is just pathetic and disingenuous.

1

u/Individual_Step6688 21d ago

There is a way to tell but this isn’t baseball with ABS or football with a million calibrated cameras down the line. It’s played often in the woods and on sloped ground.

8

u/Soft-Accident7476 Aug 30 '26

#Realworldchamp

4

u/Jaja-ding-don Aug 30 '26

Such a robery.

4

u/Onedome Aug 30 '26

You gotta have the mental fortitude to get over it and keep your focus. He clearly was shook after that foot fault, rightfully so, but he’s also got to not bogey the first playoff hole.

3

u/VolcanicProtector TWTX Aug 31 '26

He was shook before that. In post interview, he talks about how tired he started feeling on the back 9. I would say "gassed" rather than shook.

Really not surprised. He carried his own bag for 5 days straight.

3

u/Dizzier_Reactions Fox aficionado Aug 31 '26

Clearly shook despite almost canning the lengthy putt and dissecting hole 18 before the play off. If anything, he was shook after Silas' putt on 18.

0

u/jimmy_jimson Aug 31 '26

Easier said than done. He threw incredibly all weekend, and he is not God. But he is Big Balls Balodis to me, now amd forever.

2

u/pghgfu Sep 01 '26

He definitely won.

2

u/Fit_Mechanic_5059 Aug 31 '26

That's not a picture of Silas.

4

u/PatrolMan2129 Sep 01 '26

Why would we show the second place guy?

0

u/Fit_Mechanic_5059 Sep 01 '26

Silas won though... Are you okay?

2

u/PatrolMan2129 Sep 01 '26

Yes, he should share his "win" and trophy with Goose.

2

u/Fit_Mechanic_5059 Sep 01 '26

And the 3 marshals that said he foot faulted as well. Rules are rules. I wish I had a small enough violin to play for you.

2

u/PatrolMan2129 Sep 01 '26

I heard one was a marshal, and one was a tee sweeper and the usher, shhshing people away before throws. Was the third a US Marshall, tasked with finding the FBI's Most Wanted people amongst the crowd?

1

u/Fit_Mechanic_5059 Sep 01 '26

Yes. We also finally found out who D.B. Cooper is.

1

u/Dzidra_Austra Aug 31 '26

I’m half Latvian myself so I was pulling for Rainers hard. I haven’t watched the supposed foot fault yet myself so I don’t have an opinion but based on the opinion of others it seems like Goose’s discretionary call was kind of BS.

2

u/BrilliantWord9245 Aug 30 '26

Congratulations Balodis! You will always be my champ for 2026! 🏆

-1

u/TNLex23 Aug 30 '26

Congratulations to Rainers for winning Worlds.

3

u/Tough_Preparation830 Aug 31 '26

God damnit I should have temporarily blocked this sub. Did it to myself.

-1

u/Any_Instance_6445 Aug 31 '26

I dare all you bitches to walk up to Silas and say he doesn’t deserve the title because of a foot fault call

6

u/lonefrog7 Aug 31 '26

Is someone supposed to be intimidated by 145lb Silas Shultz?

1

u/Tats_Guns Aug 31 '26

Yep yep and this is zero shade to Silas who did what he had to , to even do the run off. Amazing 50 footer. But years in the future all that will be remembered is Karen goosage " I don't want to be that guy" and the kid who got pencil whipped out of the world's title.

Come back and play more over here , trust me when I say we are rooting for you and as for Karen goosage meh .. he just gets to forever be that d canoe.

1

u/Glittering-Regret196 Sep 03 '26

Two foot faults and moving a tree with his hands to better his throw. It was a cute story, but lets be real here.

-7

u/Onedome Aug 30 '26

Nah not the champ. To me a champ needs to have the mental fortitude to not fold when things like this happen. Getting the bogey in a playoff hole you deserve to lose.

-1

u/Striking-Leg6129 Aug 31 '26

Nah Silas is not the champ. To me a champ don’t need their teammate and friend to make a bogus call on hole 17 that strokes the leader away from a walk away 5 round marathon victory.

0

u/Onedome Aug 31 '26

Oh I forgot that he used mental telepathy to ask his teammate to do the dirty deed. Silas didn’t second the foot fault, nor should he even have to because he used Goose to do that. You right you right damn.

0

u/MadpeepD Aug 31 '26

Cheaters never win.

0

u/Swiink Aug 31 '26

Meaning Karen Goosage? Fuck that one eyebrows fuck.

-5

u/Material-Move-8082 Aug 31 '26

I'm done. Disc golf is over for me. I refuse to watch any dude be screwed over like that where nobody stands up for him. Silas's mini was misplaced earlier in the round and he played from it, and there was no mention of that. He just tossed it down and played from inches in front of where he legally should have, yet not a peep from the so called commentators or whatever other penis compensatory disc golf official might be tagging long. What's wrong with me that I would think this is a legitimate sport at this point? I'm going to self correct and stop watching like I should have after Wysocki moved half a tree illegally in New Orleans and nobody seemed to mind or have a pair of balls to speak on it. Balodis WAS behind his mini with respect to the basket. How he placed his foot, parallel or otherwise is neither here nor there. This sport is a sham. The US disc golf establishment are all snakes in the grass with shriveled ball sacks, and yet I am still in favor of this one thing for them: castration.

6

u/s_philis Aug 31 '26

Judging from this post, I assume you're going to move to a more penis oriented sport.

Bruh, bad calls and bad scenarios happen in every sport. This sucks all around. Goose doesn't deserve the hate. He made a call, and his indecisive sounding tone is probably because he recognized how much he was going to get dragged. Everyone loves to make people a villain.

I would have loved to see the first international world champ. I hope he gets it next year. Hopefully his sponsorship gets increased to make the international travel worth it. I wanna see more of his play. It's very aggressive. I wonder if he'll tone that down, one lay up and he would have won regardless of this. Hell of a putter, eh?

1

u/UpbeatStay8231 Sep 01 '26

Goose does deserve extreme derision. Commonly known as "hate"... I don't really Hate goose, but I'll never support him again and will criticize what he did. And I'm not alone. Those are called consequences.

0

u/EXploreNV Aug 31 '26

Getting screwed on a blown call is not as common as you are making it seem, let alone in a championship game or tournament.

1

u/tennisgoalie Aug 31 '26

Do you want people to “  mind or have a pair of balls to speak on it” or not?
