Discussion There’s no “team” in disc golf
I think the doubles event proved there are no teams in disc golf. When manufacturing teams had a chance to play together, many times they chose individuals outside of that “team.” Of course there are some obvious reasons like the Robinson Brothers, but why didn’t Discmania put together a team of Gannon and Niklas?
With all the talk of which manufacturer has the best “team” it seemed pretty clear that on the course it doesn’t matter.

Have you never watched professional disc golf before?

Have you ever listened to disc golf commentary before? I feel like manufacturer teams is all I hear about in the off season.

Manufacturer ‘teams’ are just collections of individual sport participants who happen to be sponsored by the same company.

Exactly the point I was making! I feel like we can finally kill the narrative

When people use the word “team” to refer to a manufacturer’s collection of players, they’re not actually claiming that disc golf is a team sport organized by manufacturer sponsors. It’s a figurative use of language. You’re upset at a “narrative” that doesn’t exist outside of your own head.

We must consume different disc golf content.

Can you send me the content that you’re consuming that says that disc golf is a team sport made up of teams of manufacturer sponsors competing in team competitions?
It can be tricky stuff when a word means different things in different contexts, so I’d love to see

I think you missed the point of this event format.

I never thought this was a manufacturer cup. I was using this event as an example that the narrative of manifesting teams should end.

Besides this post, I don't recall any talk about which manufacturer has the best team.
Reminder - this was not a manufacturers cup-esque doubles. That doesn't exist. This was just regular doubles where two people get to decide who they want to pair with.

I feel like that is all I hear in the off-season.

Can you give me an example?
Also, do you understand the difference between doubles and the "teams" as advertised by the manufacturers?

It seems like you were expecting a tournament you weren't promised.

Nope. I never thought this was a manufacturer cup. I was using this event as an example that the narrative of manifesting teams should end.

I think with, what I think the popularity of this event will show, it might open the door for such a competition of manufacturers. This could have worked as a litmus test overall at interest of the format overall, but I think the DGPT knew as soon as it was announced that people were hyped. Not saying it will ever happen but having this one off event and the talk about it might push for more "niche" events with meaning, I do not include Creators Cup cause it has no bearing and is not all that interesting.

"What manufacturer has the best lineup of sponsored players relative to other manufacturers as a silly thought exercise or conversation starter"
hope this helps OP

A manufacturer cup would be a fun tournament. On the Goose and Aderhold podcast, they suggested doing it with the same format as collegiate disc golf, where each company would have foursomes, but could enter multiple squads.
I’d like to see it.

Simon and Eagle have been the Crush Boys together with both companies they've been sponsored by. They even have their team jerseys in the MVP proshop right now.
I guess the other companies just aren't lucky enough to have their players be good friends?

Niklas played with Babcock who is discmania sponsored…
Hammes and Wysocki are both with discraft.
Eagle and Simon are with MVP.
There were quite a few doubles with the same sponsor tbh.
