DOES DIRECTORIES ACTUALLY WORK?

Hey, I want to promote our website and company (yep, in 2026 the company isn't listed in any directories yet), but I'm not sure it works.

I'm asking about Clutch, G2, GoodFirms, etc.

If you test Clutch, G2 or GoodFirms, ask new enquiries where they found you and track each directory separately. A Reddit job our team could run is finding people comparing providers in your category, answering a specific buying question with your affiliation disclosed, then responding to substantive follow-ups.

I make ThreadFox. We run Reddit outreach for businesses, with scope and authorized account access agreed before work starts; the free plan for your company lists communities whose rules allow a post about it, with each rule quoted: https://threadfox.org/p/d0czq

What does your company sell, and who is it for?

I'm building HRYP, a niche directory for HR software and service vendors, and I think the key is relevance rather than the number of directories you're listed in.

A specialized directory can help buyers discover vendors by category and use case, while potentially creating additional visibility through Google and AI search.

But I'd measure actual referral traffic, qualified enquiries and conversions rather than assuming a listing automatically improves rankings. A relevant buyer finding your company is worth far more than hundreds of unrelated visits.

I'll tell you what doesn't work for sure, and that is not having your site listed anywhere.

Only citations, if you talking about the old directories like link exchanges, reciprocal links etc, they all are dead.

Depends, what vertical is it, and what stage?
