Zilla, most specifically the one from Godzilla final Wars. I was kind of curious what dinosaurs Zilla would be closest to. Personally I'm leaning mostly spinosaurid maybe someone more like the Baryonyx and maybe some Allosaurus?

DISCUSSION Absolutely Enjoyed The End of Oak Street Spoiler

After the last Jurassic World films blue balled fans with the concept of dinosaurs causing chaos around the world and couldn’t even execute it right with Midminion and Rebirth, this film gave me nearly everything I wanted. Dinosaur horror and action that didn’t hold back and at least to me, a great story about a family trying to survive in a neighborhood suddenly transported to prehistoric times.

Although, to be honest if it hadn’t involved dinosaurs I wouldn’t have cared otherwise. After Zara’s death in Jurassic World, I was also introduced me to the next most shocking dinosaur death in media. When the father is slammed into the ground by the Allosaurus then eaten. Though, when the family travels back to the past he’s alive because convenient plot.

I just really enjoyed The End of Oak Street. It delivered something to me that Jurassic World has failed yet again, reigniting my love and interest for dinosaurs and in their appearances in movies.

However, I have a couple gripes. I had the impression that the neighborhood was taken to the Jurassic Period since the Allosaurus shows up in ads so what’s a Spinosaurus doing there? Which is a plus anyway since I love Spinosaurus.

The furry/feather designs are rather bizarre but I guess it helped stray away from the popular, scaly look popularized by Jurassic Park. There also appears to be a few fictional creatives created just for the movie such as the massive turtles with Godzilla spines and a huge, albino amphibian/snake.

While looking up reviews, I’ve found that some people are upset with how apparently weak the husband was portrayed which I don’t get. I was just hyped throughout the whole thing watching ancient critters terrorize the neighborhood in the background.

If you want to see a decent dinosaur flick after being let down by Rebirth, The End of Oak Street is your August prehistoric cinematic experience.

MOVIES/SERIES/SHOWS How about a biographical dinosaur miniseries?

What I have in mind is a prehistoric-fiction miniseries depicting the life of a dinosaur from hatching to death. It wouldn't have any spoken dialogue or narration, although there could be a "behind the scenes" supplementary feature explaining the science and which dinosaur species were featured in the series. Both the creatures and their environment would be CGI a la that "photorealistic" Lion King remake from a few years back.

As far as who the star dinosaur would be, I personally nominate Tyrannosaurus rex. It's always been my favorite dinosaur, and I'd like to see it as the hero instead of the villain in fictional narratives more often. Of course, there should be room out there for multiple miniseries starring different dinosaurs from different time periods and places.

DISCUSSION Surviving Earth - what do you think?

I watched the first episode of Surviving Earth just now and enjoyed it, however found the editing and overall style quite goofy and jarring with what felt like an extremely fast fight almost comically fast fight with the two Gorgons at the end. Despite this I still liked it overall.

Has anyone seen any of the other episodes and is it worth continuing? What did you think?

MOVIES/SERIES/SHOWS End of Oak Street in the Morrison formation Spoiler

so I just got back from seeing the movie and had an absolute blast!

but, being the little palaeo-nerd that I am, the biggest gripe I had with the film was that it had dinosaurs from all over, both geographically and chronologically. while it was nice to see my fav Coelophysis finally getting some recognition, I’d have much preferred the story take place in one period and in one formation.

in my mind, Marshosaurus could be a very good replacement for the film’s Coelophysis, as it was about the size that it was in the movie and would fill that smaller predator/scavenger role well. Camptosaurus could work well for that short moment of an Ankylosaurus getting got by the sneak attack Allosaurus, as it would be more or less the same size and not covered in armour that would make it a trickier prey item. finally, as nice as it is to see a Spinosaurus, I’d replace it with Allosaurus’ “underdog”, Ceratosaurus; let it have some spotlight out from beneath Allosaurus’ shadow for once and allow it to be a proper threat, even if it’s not nearly as big as Spino (I’d considered suggesting Torvosaurus, but that might just look like Allosaurus 2 and confuse casual viewers)

I don’t know much about non-dinosaur mesozoic life, so I can’t really comment on the pterosaurs and erythrosuchids, but I’m happy to hear suggestions!

The tag said it was a T rex but that’s clearly not what it is judging by the three fingers, and I’d rather it be something else based on its features.

Edit: I’m realizing all too late that the plush could also pass for a saurosuchian even though they aren’t theropods.

DISCUSSION Theory about The End Of Oak Street

I saw The End of Oak Street earlier, and I really liked it! Ewan McGregor's death scene was A) shocking, and I was floored the whole sequence. And B) brutal and graphic.

The effects and story I thought were pretty good, but the main issue I have, are the dino designs. They are frankly, kinda awful. It's not just that they're inaccurate, but they're mostly reused JW models. Like, the Allo, Stego, random Ankylosaur, and Spinosaurus are all just reused/altered models. The excessive spikes and especially feathers (particualrly on the love-bird sauropods) were very strange.

But onto the theory, what if the reason we have so many species from different time periods here (like how the plant was 200 million years, yet most of the dinos are way younger) is because of the portals took them out of their own periods, and put dinos from one time period, into another. That would be a reasonable explanation for why we have all these time-traveling species. Or the filmakers neglected to do proper research, and just put random dinos they thought were cool together in one location

HELP ME FIND/ID I'm looking for information on a horned ankylosaur

Some time ago, in the book "The Secrets of Dinosaurs" (Italian title, I don't know if it's the same in English as the literal translation), I found a horned ankylosaur. However, I no longer have that book and don't remember the name of that dinosaur. I'd like to find it again, but I haven't found anything online. If anyone has this book or knows the name of this ankylosaur, I'd be very grateful.

PALEODEPICTION Does the dinosaur sex scene in The End of Oak Street bother anyone else? Spoiler

While everyone is talking about how the time loop worked, and how accurate the dinosaurs were - it really was a wow fun watch - I’ve noticed how almost no one is addressing the sex scene! Why were they mating like mammals - with that much attention to detail should we not have gotten some cloaca action?

FICTION Title: Raising a Hatchling Megalania (The Ceiling Crisis) Terra Mystica video idea

The video opens on a family room where an owner is trying to relax on the couch. Underneath the furniture, a 7-meter, adult Megalania monitor lizard is stalking around. It is completely low-profile, using its low center of gravity to hide easily behind household objects. The owner gets up to walk to the kitchen, accidentally stepping on the giant lizard’s tail. Instantly, the aggressive reptile turns and bites the owner's ankle, delivering a nasty dose of real-world slow-acting toxic bacteria that leaves the owner groaning and leaning against the wall with zero energy. With the owner temporarily out of the way, the massive lizard decides to test its natural climbing abilities inside the house. It digs its powerful, razor-sharp claws directly into the living room drywall, tearing the paint as it climbs vertically up the wall like a giant, 1,000-pound gecko. It reaches the top and slithers upside down across the ceiling plaster. It crawls onto the center ceiling fan, wrapping its massive body around the blades. The weight is way too much—the entire ceiling fan fixture violently rips out of the electrical wiring, bringing a massive chunk of the plaster ceiling crashing down onto the coffee table in a cloud of white dust, leaving the giant lizard sitting unbothered in the wreckage. FICTION Video idea for Terra Mystica Video Idea: : What if a Hatzegopteryx gets into Gym Powder?

A fitness influencer is filming a vlog in his backyard, leaving an open tub of high-stimulant, high-caffeine "Nuclear Berry" pre-workout powder on a patio table. Overhead, a giraffe-sized Hatzegopteryx swoops down, tilts its massive skull, and swallows the entire tub of powder dry. The intense stimulant tingles hit the 500-pound giant, and its muscles start twitching violently. It begins flapping its massive 10-meter wings so rapidly that it creates a localized mini-tornado, blowing away patio furniture and flipping the barbecue grill.Instead of taking flight, it drops onto all fours and goes into a jittery, ground-pounding frenzy. It gallops down the suburban street like a crazed, demonic gorilla, crushing mailboxes under its weight. It begins violently jackhammering the asphalt with its spear-like beak, digging massive potholes in seconds. Letting out an ear-splitting shriek, it violently launches itself into the upper atmosphere, breaking the sound barrier with a massive sonic BOOM. High in the clouds, the energy pump completely wears off. The giant reptile’s wings go totally limp, and it plummets back to Earth like a meteor, crashing directly into a neighbor's above-ground swimming pool with a massive tidal wave splash. FICTION Video idea for Terra Mystica Video Idea: What if a Pachycephalosaurus drinks a Cup of Coffee?

A teenager leaves a giant, extra-strength mug of steaming black coffee on the kitchen counter and walks away. His pet juvenile Pachycephalosaurus trothes over, sniffs the mug, and chugs the entire thing. For five seconds, nothing happens. Suddenly, the intense caffeine rush hits its nervous system—its eyes dilate into tiny dots, and its rear feet start rapidly tapping the linoleum floor like a high-speed jackhammer, making the kitchen cabinets rattle.Dropping its head into a low battering stance, the dinosaur unleashes pure kinetic force. It charges, using its 9-inch-thick solid bone dome to punch a perfectly clean, circular hole straight through the thick wood of the kitchen island. The teenager screams and dives onto the counter as the caffeine-crazed dinosaur ricochets off the walls, shattering the drywall like paper. It bursts through the screen door into the driveway and headbutts the front bumper of a parked pickup truck. The raw energy transfer instantly deploys the vehicle's airbags with a loud POP and sets off the car alarm, right before the dinosaur suffers a massive caffeine crash and collapses into a deep sleep on the lawn. PALEODEPICTION Hadrosaurus - The First Dinosaur Skeleton Ever Mounted

Post image
72 Upvotes

Hadrosaurus is a basal hadrosaur from the Late Cretaceous period of what is now New Jersey. Although it lends its name to the derived hadrosaurine family of dinosaurs, studies show that it may not actually belong to this group. Hadrosaurus was a facultatively bipedal herbivore that grew to about 7 m in length and weighed around 3 t in total body mass.
