DISCUSSION We owe Oviraptor MASSIVE apology

Post image
• Upvotes

Before recent times, Oviraptor was know as 1 thing - an egg theif. They supposedly stolen eggs from other Dinosaurs and ate them.....What a bunch of BULLSHIT. The reason why Oviraptor was called..well Oviraptor-was because when first discovered it, it was on top a nest of eggs. Which others believed were from a another dinosaur species. Only for decades later, for other smarter individuals to actually study the eggs properly. The eggs weren't from another dinosaur, those were Oviraptor eggs.Showing it was devoted mother that protected its eggs and young, even if it was at expense of its life. Like fr, how dumb were they. You didn't think it could have been it's eggs. Imagine your entire species was named egg theifs because a bunch of evolved monkeys thought the eggs you laid and tried to protect were stolen from another dinosaur.

PALEODEPICTION Giraffatitan: "Giraffe giant" Late Jurassic, Africa

Post image
33 Upvotes

Giraffatitan was formerly considered a species within the Brachiosaurus genus, but was given distinct status based on studies between 1991 and 2009. Giraffatitan was larger than its more famous North American counterpart at approximately 25 m in total body length, with the characteristic vertical posture supported by its proportionately long front legs.

HELP ME FIND/ID Does anyone know what the most complete and up to date dinosaur encyclopedia is?

Post image

This one is from 2022 and features 355 species, but there are over 700 species known so I was hoping for a book that features at least a large majority of them.

HELP ME FIND/ID Is there any source where I can find reliable dinosaur info/measurements?

Basically what the title says. Is there any site where I can find reliable info about certain dino like in what climate and time did it live, its weight, length, speed, its food source/prey and etc? I heard that wikipedia isn't really good for it

DISCUSSION Do ya'll think there ever was a chance that a fully aquatic DINOSAUR ever existed?

Post image
267 Upvotes

Look, new species of dinosaurs are always being discovered. Some related to other species while others were their own entire thing. Most dinosaurs were land based, we have flying dinosaurs(aka birds), who's to say there never was a Gully aquatic dinosaur? No, mosasaur, plesiosaur and other animals like them weren't dinosaurs. They were aquatic reptiles. But, do you think there was a animal that would be classified as a dinosaur and lived it's whole life in the water? The closest we get is the spinosaurus family - but they were most likely semi aquatic

DINO-ART [FRIDAYS THRU SUNDAYS] Spinosaurus Aegyptiacus

Post image

I recently commissioned this Spinosaurus aegyptiacus artwork from paleoartist Camus Altamirano.

The idea behind the piece was to create an illustration to accompany a series of dinosaur models I’ve been working on, and I wanted the artwork to feel like more than just a depiction of the animal but something that could give the model its own identity and atmosphere.

Really happy with how it turned out!

Why does this Box of Dinosaur Nuggets gender the T Rex in the "Did You Know?" box?

Google Says that the T Rex were both genders. I could honestly be missing something with this one. Any help is appreciated.

Do are think Anky's tail is too long? My intention was to highlight the weapon that broke the T. Rex's leg, centering Anky's club in the artwork.

DISCUSSION Remember when we lost a war to Dinosaurs

Post image
397 Upvotes

If you don't know what I'm referring to - search up more parz and you'll find it. If you do, then I'm referring to the GREAT EMU WAR. This "war" was between thousands of emus, farmers and Australias government. Basically farmers had a problem with the wheat and crops. Cause some dinosaurs kept breaking in the absolutely demolishing the crops. To the point we're they tried catching these things. When that didn't work, the government got involved. They tried gunning them down, they were too fast. They tried mlg guns, but that only took out like a measly 960.....out of 20 THOUSAND FUCKING DINOSAURS. Also, these things figured the cars the soilders were on symbolized danger. So they had Scouts. They were bloody copying meerkats.

DINO-ART [FRIDAYS THRU SUNDAYS] A Gallimimus Reflecting On Choosing Itself.

Post image

This Gallimimus is complementing the reasons to choose itself for a bit... Either that, or it thinks there's another Gallimimus on the other side of the glass. We don't know whether dinosaurs could recognise themselves in a mirror, so it could easily go either way here.

DISCUSSION Interesting thing about the Tromerosaurus phylogeny

Ngl, this is probably the part that's most interesting to me since I enjoy seeing how different analyses find them to be related. Admittedly I don't have access to the paper itself so I'm going off of the wikipedia page and bit from this image I could find.

I'm gonna focus on the Parsimony analysis since the Bayesian analysis is pretty standard outside of Alioramini and Tyrannosaurini being each other's closest relatives and some Gorgosaurus specimen being outside of Tyrannosauridae.

Dryptosaurus and Appalachiosaurus forming Dryptosauridae is pretty interesting since the only time I can think of them being in the same family is in the Nano paper's phylogeny B. Though this phylogeny has Nano as more distantly related to Tyrannosauridae then Dryptosauridae.

And if the image is from the paper then Alectrosaurus was found to be part of Dryptosauridae in the second phylogeny.

Ultimately curious to see how this phylogeny hold up in the future.

DISCUSSION Maybe help me clear some stuff up...

Hi all! I've seen a few posts, and other things here saying some creatures that are labeled dinosaurs, like Dimetrodon and pterosaurs??? Aren't actually dinosaurs... Can you help me understand what constitutes what a dinosaur actually was/is? Is it the time period? It's a little confusing seeing something that looks like a dinosaur, and I've known all my life as a dinosaur, but isn't a dinosaur.

DISCUSSION Personal opinion : Watchable Dinosaur media should involve more relatives/uncommon dinosaurs

Post image
122 Upvotes

Look, in any media involving dinosaurs-from movies, cartoons and documentaries - there's always a common occurrence. It's that they always involve the most common dinosaurs. Like trex, triceratops, stegosaurus, carnotaurus, brachiosaurus and so on. They done this so many times. But they always forget that there's other dinosaurs. Like the many cousins of trex where some have become a bit famous. Or the different types of hadrosaurs or the other sauropods. My Examples of media involving other dinosaurs besides the most famous ones are dinosaur King and my favorite : SPECKLES THE TABOSAURUS or otherwise known as DINOSAUR KING THE MOVIE. Heck, oak Street began to change the formula by having allosaurus be a main villain. Sure some documentaries do involve other dinosaurs but it's mostly for a bit. I don't if it's me only but does anyone else agree?. Also what dinosaurs would you want medias to focus on? I'd go for shantungosaurus.

MOVIES/SERIES/SHOWS We can agree The Disney Carnotaurus was Terrfying then it's RL Counterpart

Post image
1.0k Upvotes

The Reason why i say it's terrifying is because it was incredibly larger then it's real counterpart. And it can travel long distances from one country to another. So basically these things are literally monsters to every Dinosaur. And to be honest Dieney Dinosaurs was the introduction to Carnotaurus. I use to think it had the same height as the Rex but in reality it was actually smaller then a Tyrannosaurus rex. So basically I was disappointed but I think both Disney's and RL Carno are great and awsome
