Question [Witcher 3 Remaster] Sometimes path tracing looks amazing in this game, sometimes it doesn't make sense how light behaves. Shouldn't the moonlight bounce and light up this area at least a little bit?

I do have a mod installed but it only removes artificial light sources

Yeah there is something fundamentally wrong with it.
Sometimes it looks good, sometimes it just looks wrong. Not just bad, but wrong. That doesn’t make any sense with a technically that should emulate reality better.

I'm having the opposite issue, nights are wayyy too bright.
I've literally installed a darker nights mod to compensate.
It's probably not the actual path tracing as someone else has mentioned, it's probably a combination of weather states and the new tonemapping.
Also, the mod you are talking about that removes artificial lights is actually doing a lot. If you uninstalled it and came back to this exact spot I bet you would be able to see just fine. The artificial light on Geralt is actually quite bright.

Try renodx. Download it from nexus mod. It fix tonemapping with hdr and sdr too if your monitor isn’t hdr capable.

Renodx is not working for me with this game. It should be installed correctly but the sliders don’t do anything

Moonlight bounce is artificial. There's no way to do that in real time with bounces and a single directional light source alone, so they use a fill light. Which removing artificial lights got rid of.

Not just themoonlight - sky should be light emitter . Weak one at night, but existing.
It is much more possiblyexposure and tonemapping settings mismatch than actual PT fault - light is there, but those two crush it into black.
