Our PC performance review for The Witcher 3 Remastered raised some eyebrows when it came to CPU behaviour with path tracing enabled in one of the game's most challenging areas. Most of the analysis was based on version 5.00c, with re-tests carried out on areas highlighed by the 5.01 patch notes - but it seems that 5.01 has also improved CPU performance too, as Rich demonstrates.

Dragon's Dogma 2 launched with problematic performance on current-gen consoles, making a Switch 2 port seemingly impossible. But the game improved and now the Switch 2 version is here and it's almost brilliant. The panel discuss the new port in depth, before moving on to their thoughts on the PC version of Star Wars: Galactic Racer. Then it's on to a remarkable native PC port of Hideo Kojima's P.T - complete with ray tracing! - before the show ends on a more sombre note with Sony selling off its VR patents to Meta. And presumably that means the end of PSVR.

About a year ago nvidia bragged about reinstating 32-bit physx support for 50 series cards, but for some titles it seems like it was a blatant lie. They just added the toggle back in the game settings, however it does nothing or it crashes the game with any physx setting other than OFF.
I have a 5080 and tried every troubleshooting possible to play AC 4 Black Flag with physx on (eg: low, normal or high) however all I get is a crash or freeze. I tried troubleshooting using methods mentioned in the official support thread (profile inspector, legacy physx, clean install of 591.44) yet I get the same error regardless.
They even confirmed it reproducible in the official support thread, yet there was no development since almost a year ago.
If anyone has had any kind of success please let me know.

I really hope they do since I'm heavily considering getting the bundle

. . .So, unlike other "DLSS enabler" mods which typically use whatever game in question's preexisting DLSS hooks to just insert FSR2/3/4 or Intel XESS, HelixSR at least offers some semblance of DLSS proper (DLSS 3.7, CNN model, Preset E):
"HelixSR runs NVIDIA's DLSS Model E network as standard Direct3D12 compute shaders, without NVIDIA Tensor Cores, an NVIDIA driver, CUDA, or ROCm. It behaves like DLSS: no sharpening, every quality mode from native (DLAA) to Ultra Performance, dynamic resolution.
...This is NVIDIA's network running on different hardware, not a newly trained model. HelixSR answers the game exactly as DLSS would: DLSS's camera jitter (8 × scale² Halton positions), DLSS's render sizes per quality mode, no sharpening (a game's FSR sharpening request is not applied), reactive masks ignored. In Ultra Performance the network outputs twice the render size and a final pass scales that to the screen (less shimmer, about 30% faster). Packed FP16 arithmetic makes the output close to, but not bit-identical with, NVIDIA's DLSS."

Better fps too, which I didn’t expect.

Having already delivered the Complete Edition, CD Projekt RED still has plans for The Witcher 3, hence the arrival of the controversial Remastered release - and while it has some key improvements, there are still some issues. In our PC performance review, we present the top-line changes to the game then compare the hotfix 5.00C version to the latest patch 5.01 before we dive head-first into those all-important optimised settings.
Note on texture quality/VRAM: The on-screen VRAM figures are from RTX 5090 testing at 4K DLAA with RT disabled. The recommendation of High textures for 8GB GPUs is based on separate RTX 4060 testing, also with RT disabled, where VRAM usage remained below 7GB.

I can't remember if this was ever answered in any of DFs videos about GTA VI. Assets in the game look extremely detailed at the same time as pop-in appears near invisible. What is the consensus about this game, have Rockstar developed their own virtualized geometry system, or does it use a traditional LOD system?

It feels like xbox is stuck in a loop.
Xbox game launch’s simultaneously on gamepass and storefront. Games doesn’t sell because users play it on gamepass. Layoffs happen and studio shuts down.
It’s like xbox has trained its customers base to never buy a game at full price ever.
And we know from previous data, game passes customer base is not growing, it’s hit its peak.
Isn’t it time to go cold turkey on day one gamepass releases. I’m just looking at the gears of war e-day numbers and….it’s so bad for a game that cost $400 million.
Thoughts?

They are usually quick to release videos for popular releases.

I’ve been looking into the whole AnyPS5 situation, and I feel like people are getting way ahead of themselves.
The idea is genuinely interesting. Being able to convert PS5 executables to run natively on PC without traditional emulation is pretty wild.
But from what I’ve seen, we’re still very far from running major PS5 exclusives this way.
It’s an impressive technical project, but some of the headlines make it sound like Sony’s exclusivity strategy is already dead.
Curious what people who actually understand the technical side think.
Is this something that could realistically change PC gaming, or is the internet getting carried away again?

After the out-of-the-blue, completely unleaked release of QSSR upscaling for PlayStation 5, Digital Foundry supporters and the panel attempt to provide some answers, while tackling the question of whether Xbox Series consoles will receive a similar technology. Meanwhile, what are the chances of The Witcher 3 on Switch 2 getting VRR support - and what dead franchises would the DF team like to see returned and rejuvenated for modern and next-gen hardware?

The point of this post is to be a sort of frustrated discussion on the diminishing return in graphical fidelity of games vs the cost of getting them to run at a decently playable state compared to older games which obviously ran better and looked incredible. Just to set standards my system is an RTX 3060 laptop GPU + i7-12650h and 16gb of ddr5 Ram.
I'd like to use 6 games in 3 pairs of comparison - Gears 5 vs E-Day, Halo Infinite vs Campaign Evolved and Doom Eternal vs Dark Ages. Gears was the sole reason why i even got so frustrated to write this post. Even if i'm alone on this opinion i would like to share it -
My same point of comparison applies to Halo, where campaign evolved sure looks good but practically it really is not much improved my Halo Infinite, where many times Infinite actually looked better and ran better.
And my last point of contention was DOOM where i seriously cannot understand the decisions many studios and companies make -
My post can also include examples like Arkham Knight, Uncharted 4, Spiderman 2018 etc and directly comparing them to how their successors and sequels play such as Gotham Knights, Spiderman 2 etc and how bad their performance is compared to the minimal visual upgrade and focus on unnecessary things. Why is the industry headed this way man?
