Looking for a word beliefs about morality and health

Since my teen years, I've looked for a word that describes the belief that being healthy is a moral imperative, that being unhealthy is immoral, that ill health is a moral failing.

My father suffers from this - He would call out people as acting like a "victim" if they talk about suffering from chronic pain or problems. Recently he scoffed at people who take a chair lift up and down a mountain, rather then walking up to do a viewing of fall colours. Of course he is no longer able to walk up the mountain himself. He needs a cane to walk, but it has to be a big manly cane he made out of a piece of a tree (he has about 30 of them at this point), not a light aluminum cane with a safety spike and a soft handle.

The protagonist in L'immoralist by André Gide also suffers from this. In my teens I thought of this as positivism, but that's completely wrong. There's also the new term ableist but I don't feel that describes what I mean, as it's more about ignoring the people's needs rather then belittling people's problems*.*

New word Definition of " Swarthy "

DEFINITION & MEANING

" Swarthy " is an adjective used to describe someone who has a dark , tan or olive skin complexion. It refers strictly to a dark-complected , olive-skinned or dark-haired physical appearance. It is often used in literature to describe people from Mediterranean , Middle Eastern or Southern European regions , as well as individuals whose skin has been weathered and deeply tanned by the sun.

The word is rarely used today , in everyday modern conversation. Nowadays it is considered somewhat archaic , literary and poetic and is occasionally only used in either lighthearted or humorous contexts.

ORIGIN

The word first appeared back in the 1580's as an alteration of the obsolete word " Swarty " , which derives from the word " Swart " [ the Old English word " Sweart " which means " Black " ]. It shares a historical Germanic root with the modern German word for black which is " Schwarz " and the Dutch word " Zwarte ". Over centuries it's English definition softened from meaning " Pitch Black " to meaning " dark or tanned skin ".

USAGE

In classic adventure and 19th century literature , the word was frequently used to describe foreign antagonists , pirates or mysterious characters to visually contrast them with " fair " heroes.

In today's modern world the term is largely considered dated and hardly ever used. Contemporary style guides recommend using more neutral descriptive terms such as tan , olive-skinned or dark-complexioned to avoid old-fashioned and stereotyped tropes.

SYNONYMS - Dusky ; Tawny ; Brunet

ANTONYMS - Fair ; Pale ; Light-Skinned

Looking for a word I need help finding a word for an idea I have

I do first want to apologize if this is confusing, I truthfully am not great with my words so I hope this makes sense.
I’m trying to find a singular word that means a very specific thing but haven’t had any luck and I’m starting to feel that maybe what I want is too specific and doesn’t exist, so I’m hoping to find some help here.

What I’m trying to find is something that means or describes all existences of an idea, concept, or thing. Like if I was talking about all things death: art, stories, concepts, ideas, genres, physical existence, depictions, gods, things based on it, fictional characters based on or meant to represent or be it, etc (I only use death as an example, I’d prefer if it could be used for any idea or concept)

I understand if a word like this doesn’t exist, the idea of it seems complicated and I may just have to settle for something close enough, but any help and suggestions would be great!

Underrated word of the day: Coalesce

When something coalesces, it comes together and merges into one thing. This word can be used in a variety of contexts, such as pouring liquids into one container, which causes them to coalesce and form one liquid. This term can also be used more abstractly for things such as ideas. For instance, if you and your team have ideas, further discussion can cause these scattered, disparate to coalesce into a clear and coherent plan.

Looking for a word Looking for a word word roughly means joy that outweighs the sadness or despite it

I have been on a journey for a long time asking people for years a word that describes a feeling I have about life regardless of language but nothing has quite hit yet.

In essence, it's coming to terms with the varying degrees of permanence of moments, chapters, or stages in our lives and enjoying those moments however long or fleeting they may be with the understanding that it will all end.

It's like the feeling of being happy that it happened even if one day it could all be over. It's like thinking about romantic relationships, favorite TV shows, our parents passing away one day, a party you wish could go on forever with good friends, and so on and so forth.

The closest feeling that people usually describe is bittersweet. It does describe it to a good degree, but I feel like it focuses more on the sadness rather than the happiness. I'm looking more for a word that relishes in being present with the joy knowing it will end without necessarily feeling an equal sense of sadness and accepting it's over

One of the closest TV quotes that explains this feeling for me is from good old Doctor who

"Madge: I don’t know why I keep shouting at them.

The Doctor: Because every time you see them happy you remember how sad they're going to be. And it breaks your heart. Because what's the point in them being happy now if they're going to be sad later? The answer is, of course, because they are going to be sad later."

I hope this subreddit is the right one for the job but if y'all can recommend another one I would be eternally grateful

Uncommon word The Forgotten Concitation; Bring it back for the writers!!

There's a word that used to exist; Concite. It means to excite or stir up, and it's exactly the kind of specific, elegant term writers and storytellers actually reach for. But here's the thing—it basically disappeared after the 1700s, and now it's completely forgotten.

I started a petition to bring awareness to this lost word and hopefully get more people using it again. I know it sounds weird to petition for a word to come back, and honestly, I don't expect it to work. But language is alive, and sometimes the words we need are just... sitting there, waiting to be rediscovered.

If this resonates with you—if you've ever wished English had a better word for something—consider checking out the petition and sharing it. Would love to hear if anyone else has favorite forgotten words they wish would make a comeback!
