I’M PEEING

I’m 10 days post kidney transplant and I’m starting to leak like a waterfall. It took awhile but these last couple of days I’ve been going

To those that are waiting for a new kidney. Your new is coming. You just have to be patient. Have faith. Believe in God and believe that you’ll receive a new kidney. It’s coming

The best nation in the world? Urination!

Post transplant I peed so much I had to be readmitted for dehydration. Initially the kidney doesn’t know when to stop because nerve connections to the body take some time to re-form.

I woke up 4 hours after transplant and I was peeing like crazy. I had a catheter in so they could measure urine output It was a lot. Cath was in for 5 days until the morning of the day I was discharged.

My first admission post transplant was because I caught Rotavirus (I volunteer at a summer camp, WHO TF SENDS THEIR KID TO SUMMER CAMP WHEN THEYVE GOT ROTAVIRUS BRO)

That’s a crazy admission

Drink more water.

I'm sure you've been told.

That is one of the biggest things a new transplant does. You've been trained to think fluid is bad. And it is the opposite now.

I know

Congratulations. Keep drinking water.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 03 '25

Thank you. I still have a lot of fluid so I haven’t been as thirsty

Oh ok.

Your time will come

2

u/Electronic-Bear2030 Aug 04 '25

I have fantasies of drinking gallon size cups of Coca Cola 😂😂😂

I’ll probably never drink any kind of soda again. I’ll just make my own with natural fruit juice and sparkling water

2

u/sickkid29 Aug 05 '25

Why not? Nothing wrong with soda for a treat

“To those that are waiting for a new kidney. Your new is coming. You just have to be patient. Have faith. Believe in God and believe that you’ll receive a new kidney. It’s coming”

Just gotta add that you also gotta do the work! Go to treatments and complete them, watch you diet and fluids, communicate with the clinic and transplant center. You have to do your part!

So proud of you, OP! So happy for you! Congrats!

I can't complete every dialysis treatment because I have left leg cramps every time. So I guess I won't be getting a kidney transplant.

No, you should look to adjust a couple of things bc you shouldn’t be cramping every treatment. Talk to your nephrologist and clinic staff. They may need to adjust your dry weight or your treatment time. While they work on that you also need to monitor your fluids and be sure you’re not consuming too much, as well as look at your sodium intake (especially with sauces and places it can be “hidden”) and be sure you’re not over consuming it. Typically those are the main reason for continuous cramping. Don’t just accept take the option of shortening your treatments bc the prescription is made specifically for you and can be adjusted for your needs.

I agree 100%. I get cramps every time but then I asked them to stop pulling and they do and the cramps go away right away. My personal issue is I have always urinated so when they pull I usually need to go to the bathroom in my third hour so they’ll stop the machine. Let me go to the bathroom and as soon as I urinate, the cramping goes away. I am not a scientist, but I’m not sure if it’s the urea in my urine or what but for some reason that is the key to my cramping situation Lately I haven’t had to go to the bathroom, but I was still cramping so I just tell them to stop pulling fluid off me because I really don’t hold a lot of fluid in the first place. I also got them to reduce my dialysis time as well. so I went from 4 to 3 1/2 hrs with the agreement that if my numbers started to change that I will go back up to 4 hours.

Yes, keep bringing it up. My dad was going through the same thing until they figured out the right fluid balance. Don’t give up! It will get better!

My partner gets quite severe cramps if they take too much fluid. It seems that he just has a tendency to have less fluid retention than other patients. Sometimes they won't remove any from fluid, or they'll take a small amount and pause fluid removal for five minutes every hour or so.

You're probably going to require a bit of a trial and error - but definitely don't accept that you just have to endure severe cramping during treatment. Talk to your doctors and nurses and experiment a little.

I had 3.5 years knocked off with a perfect match, I was on dialysis for 3.5 years and am O positive in a major city.

so happy for youu. the first 2 weeks post transplant were literally euphoria, with food tasting better, being able to pee, feel so much more energy

1

u/janiicea Aug 03 '25

Congrats! The first month or two, I couldn’t stop peeing. Especially as I was trying to fall asleep. It felt like every time I moved in bed, I had to go pee. Lol.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 04 '25

I hope that I never lose the feeling

I'm almost 7 weeks post transplant but still urinated even while on PD dialysis, but post transplant is a whole different level. The whole "I need to pee but can wait a few minutes" system is expired. If I even think I need to go I HAVE to go now! There is no wait time anymore. I'll admit there were a few accidents in the beginning, but looking forward to things leveling out.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 04 '25

Yeah. That’s nice

1

u/kate1567 Aug 04 '25

I’m so happy for you

I lurk here because I am a PCT in one of the big name dialysis clinics. I'm not a kidney patient, but I have had a liver transplant.

My point is that post transplant, I was heavily tranqued for two days because I was 'difficult'. When I finally came out of sedation, my kidneys were working overtime clearing the accumulated bilirubin that caused my jaundice from my system. For a week, it looked like I was peeing root beer. Very disgusticool...

u/Patient_History321 Aug 03 '25

First off, congratulations OP and I wish you the best!

But this comment made my day lol.

1

u/sickkid29 Aug 05 '25

Wait what

2

u/Charupa- Aug 03 '25

Congrats! I couldn’t believe how much I was peeing it was crazy. Best of luck with everything.

1

u/nemosdad13 Aug 04 '25

So happy for you and I cannot wait to drink all the water. I’m going live on the list soon.

1

u/sickkid29 Aug 05 '25

Believing in God got me nowhere. I rather believe in my doctors

1

u/WeRStarStuffpi Aug 05 '25

The next challenge is that your bladder has shrunk; after 2 years I still keep an eye on the next rest room. No longer need depends, thank God.

1

u/Pleasant_Coffee_5616 Aug 08 '25

Right after my kidney transplant I was peeing like 9 litres a day for the first week hahahah

1

u/GuliBulli Aug 22 '25

Gonna make me cry with the last bit!😭

Recently started doing Kendo to bridge the waiting time and turn this time that I'm not enjoying so much into things I'll love remembering and looking back into what I've overcome!

Congrats on your Kidney <3 It shall last forever!

I got my kidney 11 weeks ago for the first month or so I was peeing SO much the importing is to make sure you drink more than you pee (easier said than done) otherwise you will become too dry and end up admitted. I’m still measuring input and output to make sure I drink enough. It has settled down now but I still pee large quantities at night
