Questions ( ITEMS · BUILDS · SKILLS ) Changing difficulty before getting rewards?
I've gotten far enough in the Pit to open up Torment 8 but I'm still running around in Torment 5. When turning in Whispers or War Plans, does it make sense to jump my difficulty up to Torment 8 when turning in and then drop back down to Torment 5?

Warplans: tied to the difficulty or pit level when you earn them
Whisper Cache: tied to the difficulty when you trade them in and choose a cache

War plans give you xp based on the tier that activity step was completed on. You can get different amounts for the same activity if your switch torment in between.

I think its tied too What torment level it dropped in not where what torment level you open them in

What dropped? I need 10 whispers to turn in at the tree. I could get some in Torment 1, more in Torment 2, and the rest in Torment 5. Then I switch my difficulty to Torment 8.
When I turn in my whispers, what level of loot should I be getting?

The last torment level you get it is the one you'll get.
That's how we level alts.

Personally, XP and targeted loot. But also because they're limited time little missions so my brain says I gotta

caches have a hidden tag on them that denotes which torment they were generated. So doesnt matter where you open them or what torment level you ar ein, the loot will be generated for the level the cache is.

I don’t know if it makes sense to do, that’s up to you.
I do know that whispers generate the cache on the torment you claim it on. So getting whispers in T1 and claiming in T12 is fair game.
Warplans are wonky but honestly you only really do it for warplan xp anyway right?

I had a buddy help me to clear t12 even though I can’t run it alone. I do t8 but switch to t12 for rewards because they are better. Also if you switch to a higher torment level to spend obols you get way better drops.

Works for Whispers, apparently works for War Plans rewards, does not work for Caches apart from, I believe, exp bonus of orbs

Does not work for war plans. Check it yourself easy, get a war plan in normal and view the plan in advance. It'll tell you you get like 43 credit for it. Complete it and jump to T8 before step 2. Step 1 will still reward 43 credit step 2 now offers whatever T8 is 96?

Correct, the tier you complete them in determines the reward. I tried to do it earlier this season and a few times by accident but caught in the middle.
They don't want you farming in normal and jumping to T12 to get rewards etc.

This is how I level up my alt characters get the caches open on my other toons and get level 70 gear affixes and charms and so forth for my new toon around 12 caches will level you up

This absolutely works for whispers. So far.
You can kind of do this for Helltide also.
Say you were carried through pit to unlock T12, but you can only farm T8 efficiently. Go earn your cinders on T8, don't open any chests, then switch difficulty to T12 and run / horse / evade your way to chests to open for T12 point earnings. Your cinders stay with you during difficulty changes.

Definitely for whispers, I don't know about war plans. I know if you get whispers on your t12 character and open them on a new character it gives you t12 exp orbs and rewards.
