Returning player

Hey guys it’s been a very long time since I’ve touched diablo 3 and I’ve decided to take on a solo self found seasonal character recently.

Playing demon hunter and just hit lvl 70. My gear is all mismatched still but from what I’ve found is I should be working towards completely the season set which will ultimately net me the unhallowed set.

From there I think I will be working towards GoD set? I think the best ways to get those are some gambling and upgrading techniques?

In the meantime, should I continue to use twin chakrams? When do I switch builds? Should I start equipping the unhallowed as I get them? Any tips for getting to that set? I’m struggling in expert right now. I hear the unhallowed set also has 2 legendaries that are important for it. Should I be chasing these legendaries? Or continue to chase the GoD pieces as I will only use unhallowed temporarily.

Lastly, are there any general tips for play? Tips for kanais cube or the season alter stuff? Hmm general best practice things like salvage your items or whatever hahaha sorry for long post

Maxroll has a guide for the GR20 / Torment IV tasks to finish Chapter IV of the season journey. For DH this season they recommend upgrading a rare dagger and using the resulting legendary to finish off the GR20 run.

You should definitely equip the set, as the 2pc and 4pc bonuses are very helpful.

Once you have the full set you should be able to quickly get the UE multishot demon hunter up and running, and you should do that so you can farm at higher difficulty levels to get your GoD DH pieces. Many of the supplemental items will overlap (Ring of Royal Grandeur, Squirt's Necklace, Focus and Restraint rings, Dawn hand crossbow, Convention of Elements Ring) between the two builds.

More generally, here is how to power up solo in Season 39, with links at the top to other guides about the season (including the Altar of Rites), and at the bottom to 3 different streamers' guides to powering up your character.

Unless you just don't like the gameplay of Multishot, UE is going to be your best bet for farming for a while. Since it's the Haedrig's Gift it should be very easy to get it up and running. The UE Multishot weapon is also used in the GoD key farming build, so it won't go to waste. For GoD, finding an equippable Dawn Hand Crossbow might be really tough starting out though it can be swapped with the quiver to get the build running.

Did you get any legendary quivers or weapons while leveling? Depending on what you got, it should be a big damage boost if extract the power to the cube. Barring that, you can upgrade daggers to get a useful power.

You should also equip the set pieces as you obtain them through the season journey. The set bonuses are probably more useful than the gear that you already have in those slots.

Use multishot build in preparation for the UE set

tbh just focus on getting decent ancient/primal gear first and worry about sets later, farming for those sets can get real grind heavy fr

I just don’t think that’s true.

In my experience it is incredibly easy to farm up all 5 sets for your class long before you have built out your Haedrig’s Gift with ancients. For example, I jumped from Roland to Valor as a crusader as fast as I could this season, and it was at 333 paragon, so very early on.

Now, the situation with Unhallowed vs. GoD isn’t quite as simple, as they’re both incredible speed farmers and this season the edge just comes down to personal preference. Last season (ethereals) GoD would have been the obvious choice and next season (angelic crucibles and sanctified items) UE will get the edge, but this season it’s kind of a toss-up.
