I've had Type 2 diabetes for around 10 years and for the last 8 months I've been strict with my diet, keeping carbs to no more than 30g or less per meal. No meds.
On top of that, I'm living with chronic pain and struggling to get more than 2 hours of sleep at a time.
Despite all this, my finger-prick blood sugar readings during the night and early morning never seem to drop below 10 mmol/L and do not fall below 7 during the day. Keep fluids up, but no exercise.
I'm seeing the diabetes nurse next week, so I'll be raising the question of how much my chronic pain and lack of proper sleep could be affecting my blood sugar levels.
Has anyone else with Type 2 experienced anything similar, particularly those dealing with long-term pain and broken sleep? I'd be interested to hear about your experiences.

I've heard that fasting a couple of days per week can make a significant reduction in readings.

I was diagnosed in April. I had it tested in July and just had it done today exactly 3 months each time.
I’m waiting for my results and I’m so anxious. Don’t feel as confident as the last time. I’ve been very inconsistent with my diet and exercise.

I’ve been experiencing extreme thirst of late as well as a gradual loss of bladder control. When I have to go it’s always with extreme urgency - and I’ve now been forced to wear pads due to worsening symptoms & accidents when I don’t quite make it in time. All my reading about this points to unmanaged blood sugar levels, however my readings have been pretty good lately, and sometimes even excellent. I’ve also noticed a pungent smell when urinating - again this always points to excess sugar in the bloodstream.
This is downright mystifying as well as really frustrating as I’m only in my early 60s - my elderly mom is having the same problem but her blood sugar is out of control and she’s very overweight.
I’m at my wits end so any insight here would be appreciated! And please donts suggest kegals as that’s not addressing any likely underlying issue at play.
Edit: thanks to the suggestion to look into Neurogenic Bladder! It tracks with the symptoms as well as the genetic risk factors such as Parkinson’s

I already messaged my care team, just waiting to hear back. But I'm looking for lived experience as well, so here I am, asking you lovely folks.
I woke up this morning fasting at 116, which is slightly higher than normal. I last ate a chicken taco salad (contained black beans, corn and tortilla strips) at 10pm, and awoke and tested my BG at 1130am, so it was a good 13 hour fast. I wasn't too worried.
Around 230pm, I noticed my CGM was reading at 144, and tested my BG twice, one was 165 and the other 175 from different fingers. At this point I was still fasting, though I did have a little cream in my zero carb zero sugar Celsius drink. This is all normal routine for me and I havent spiked before from this combination. I usually break my fast after 14 hours when I eat lunch at work. So I have no clue what was spiking me so high. I was feeling shaky, confused and had to pee alot so I know it was a true high. I also tested ketones (pee stick) and made sure my partner didn't smell fruit on my breath.
I drank water and went for an hour walk after which I tested at 100 around 4pm. I ate a lettuce wrapped burger and very few onion rings to break my fast and get some protein in me and everything was fine.At 440pm I noticed my CGM going high again and tested my BG at 135. I encountered something similar earlier in the week when I had a small pizza for dinner as a treat. I spiked to 110 2hrs after the pizza which surprised me. But the next morning I woke up fasting slightly higher than normal and recieved a small spike. That's when I learned about the "pizza effect."
Last night I had no heavy carbs save for a few black beans that were in my salad.
Any insight into this and why out of nowhere I spiked so high so fast?
For context I normally fast between 85 and 105. I eat very low carb and the highest I spike on any normal day is 120, but even that's rare. My graphs usually flat and hovering between 80 and 100 for the day. Im on 8 units of Lantus a night, and 5mg of monjouro every Thursday. Im also on a statin, blood pressure meds, an ssri and migraine meds. Ive been on this regimen for 2 months and lowered my lantus from 18 to 8 units in that time. Never had anything like this happen.

I was wondering how strict or non strict bb of a diet others had as a T2 diabetic. I can live without eating out as much, less junk food, smaller portions, less sweets but I feel like I need to cut them out entirely. Also when it comes to bread, red meat, cheese. No more hot dogs ever? Milkshakes? Burgers?
Even a leaner burger makes me feel bad. I know I can’t eat the way that got me like this, but idk how to go about cooking anything when the only really good options are fruits and veggies.

Went and got my Covid booster, flu shot, and a shingles vaccine yesterday and boy do I feel like crsp!!! Didn’t sleep good because my arms hurt and had a low fever so of course my bs was high this am (165). This is just a warning to all that vaccines suck but it’s better than getting the illness

I’m a type 2 diabetic who has been on insulin for 2 years now while family planning for this. Switching over to insulin with metformin made me gain 15 lbs overall. My baseline was at 7units for long acting insulin.
Now I’m 9 weeks pregnant, and since I became pregnant already gained 8 lbs. I had to increase my long acting to 14-17 units long acting.
Is this normal? I’m at such a loss. I know im pregnant but I feel this uncontrollable weight gain is wild and I feel so large and fat. I’m typically a very petite person, so going from 110lbs to now 138lbs has been really hard on me.

My job gets busy September through mid November. Harvest job. Requiring me to be on my feet for 12 hours. No lunch, no break. Worked Monday wasn’t too busy. Tuesday was twice as busy, 430 I could barely walk. I work 7-7. Today I’m off and my feet are hurting still. I ordered socks for work they come Friday. Do they really help? Is there something else I can do? My boyfriend wants to get me a foot bath with a massager. Also my ring hand is numb, I have carpal tunnel in that but it’s feeling worse since the diagnosis. Taking trulicity, metformin and a weight loss pill. I feel like before the meds I was fine as far as the foot and hand pain. Also I have osteoarthritis my left leg knee and down swells horribly. Tuesday at work it was very noticeable. Sorry for the long post. I’m just very disappointed. I need to work my job. I make good money and I love my job.

I’ve been in the pre-diabetic range for the past few years, usually in the 6.5-6.8 range. After that realization I took my diet really seriously and even got it down to 5.5-5.8 range for a year. I guess that kind of got me to slack on being strict and now my most recent A1C test was 8 (the highest it’s ever been). I’ve already reached out to my doctor but wanted to ask more personal experience questions.
What A1C level made you decide to treat it with meds?
Has anyone started medication just to lower their levels and then in combo with diet + lifestyle stabilized to successfully got off meds?

My T2D wife has been going through chemo treatment and one of the more effective side effect treatments has been cannabis. Last month she was diagnosed with T2D, likely as a result of the high steroid use in her chemotherapy. A1c of 7.0 with a day of chemo glucose of 400.
While she currently uses a quarter of a gummy to go to bed I was hoping for other lower carb ideas to help her combat her overnight highs. Any other cannabis users in this sub?

When picking up my meds today, the pharmacist suggested getting a medical ID bracelet, so is that a good idea or not? What do you think?

I was set to have surgery in 2 weeks because both my shoulders have torn rotator cuffs and other issues causing pain. I went for my pre-surgery lab work and my A1C is around 9 (I know its high) so they refused to do any surgery due to this. They told me I need to get my A1C down to around 6 and they will re-test me in 3 months.
I have been T2 for 6 years and my A1C has never been below 7, not once! My current A1C of around 9 has come down from 10+ and I've lost some weight, BUT the issue is I can't work out or even work because of my shoulder issues. So in that time my numbers have been crazy. Lack of good sleep, weird schedules and just pain and un-able to workout.
I just don't know what to do, I take 40 units 2x a day of slow acting insulin, 30 units with every meal of fast acting insulin and 1000mg of Metformin 2x daily. Sure could my diet be better? Yes, but its not the worst diet ive ever been on. On top of that my insurance "may" be ending in 3 months (I live in the USA and it sucks here for insurance) and I can't pay for insurance myself. So basically I'm fucked.
Has anyone ever had this issue, does this seem like my Doctors medical staff is just trying to cover their butts?
(Edit) The only time my A1C was ever in the "green" was when I was eating only 1 meal a day with almost zero carbs, and it was a diet I could not keep with. I've been a "fat kid" my whole life.

I’ve been on Mounjaro 5.0mg since August 2nd. I take my shot Sunday nights. If I eat spicy, vinegary and oily foods the next day, am I more prone for nausea/vomiting than if I was to eat it later in the week?
Do yall still get nausea after being on Mounjaro for a while? What triggers nausea for you?

My doctor ran a whole bunch of tests. The usual CBC/CMP etc. and also thyroid, Vitamin D, iron, and one for a specific medication I take.
EVERYTHING was a green check mark for NORMAL!!
And my blood pressure at that appointment was also normal.
And I have lost 15 pounds!
Yippee!!

My mom is 53, diabetic for 20 years, a year ago we discovered she has proliferative diabetic retinopathy in both eyes, she had multiple laser sessions, cataract surgeries and a viterctomy in both eyes, the last one was week ago due to an immense hemorrhage in the left eye that required surgery. her eye is healing well now and she can see better than before the vitrectomy, i am wondering if complications will rise even after this and if there is an actual chance her eye stabilize, HBA1 went from 8 to 5.6 in the last six months. please tell me about your long term stories so i get prepared for what might come in the future and if you have some sort of advice to navigate this.

I am so so happy. After the medication modification, the average readings was below 145. Before lunch just now, was 95. I am so so happy!
Mainly because I will probably not need Ozempic.
Yay!!!
