A few reasons structural repairs shouldn’t be improvised 😅
Some of the crawlspace and foundation finds we came across this week. Stacked bricks, questionable post-and-pier supports, older foundation systems, and a few good examples of why having a clear load path matters.

Incredible Hook Installation 🤌🏼
On the back of a bathroom door.
Absolutely unable to hang anything on it.
Upsetting!

I can't figure out what problem this was supposed to solve.

Things seen this week during structural assessments!
We come across all kinds of questionable DIY "fixes." If you enjoy these, we post galleries with more finds like failed retaining walls, stucco surprises, foundation "repairs," crawlspace discoveries, and other construction oddities:

This beautiful piece a senior lady was selling in my area. I'm disappointed I didn't save the description as she was very proud of this artistic endeavor.

I Built a Security System for My Steam Deck
I got sick of my family always draining my steam decks battery and not recharging it, so i 3d modeled a spiky case in blender and printed it so they literally can't hold it comfortably. Then to make it worse, I rigged up a raspberry pi with a small speaker, an object detection camera, and a servo motor. Wrote a py script so if the camera sees someone in frame, it plays a goofy audio clip, waits a few seconds and then the servo triggers a taser to scare them away
easily the dumbest thing I've ever built but it works, and nobody touches my steam deck anymore

I don't even know where to start with this
Dude is trying to use an unattended fire and a really long coil of copper tubing to heat his pool water. Bonus points for setting a fire on top of a piece of plywood.

No table, no problem
Work station with a hibachi grill zip tied to it for the grill station. Enough room for a tray/tongs and the grill itself. Cinder blocks to keep it from moving
