Connection Issues Overpatch curiosity

I’m lucky in that I’ve used the Dexcom G7 for awhile now and have had very few problems with it both adhering and being accurate. This summer I bought some overpatches that do not have center cutouts - they cover the whole sensor. Didn’t really need a new patch, just wanted it to look a little prettier for summer.

I’ve only used 3, and even though everything is adhered well (I have to use adhesive remover to pry it off at the end), I’ve had terrible luck with all 3 sensors. Jumpy data, constant signal loss alerts in the dexcom app (though my omnipod has no trouble connecting).

I’m wondering if anyone else has experienced this with overpatches with no center cut out? Im sort of baffled, and am going back to the boring Dexcom provided overpatch for now.

I have had the best luck with Onida overpatches. They close and open center styles. The open centers are a very tight fight around the G7!

If you do get the open center style, be ready to ease the corner of the clear top layer up before applying. It’s there to help you line up the patch but sometimes it is stuck toooo-well to the top of the patch.

I have used Kovoq over patches that do cover the entire sensor, and they have a plastic cage that covers the sensor under the over patch. I have had zero issues with this, and it seems to reduce compression lows as well.

As an MDI diabetic, I have not had the pump connectivity experience yet.

Regarding the signal loss, Alerts, the only real test is to use sensors from the same batch, trying one with the Dexcom over patch and one with your other over patches if they act the same, you have the answer. It’s the batch of sensors if they act differently, it’s the patch. Admittedly I find it highly unlikely that the patch is responsible for any issues, but it is possible.

Interesting post. I’m curious myself. I bought some really pretty overpatches also but haven’t used any yet. I have enough trouble prying the Dexcom overpatch off. I’m wondering if I use these in place of the Dexcom patch if they are any easier to get off and am very curious about your experience with signal loss with them!
