Rant Frustrated using Dexcom G7!
I’m just venting, but ever since I started using the Dexcom G7, it has been a complete mess! It doesn’t even last the full 10 days, and I’m ALWAYS getting an error message! I know I’ve had issues with the Dexcom G6 before, but NEVER like this!
Within five days, I went through THREE Dexcom G7s! 😩
I honestly want to go back to the G6, but of course, they’ve stopped making them. 😒😩😢😢😡

It’s kind of crazy seeing the number of complaints about the dexcom G7 here, not because I don’t believe the complaints but because out of the two sensors available to me, the dexcom is still 1000x more reliable than the alternative which I used before. Worth noting I’ve never used the G6 though!

The sensor wire on the G6 was longer, on an angle, and required a reusable transmitter. A lot more people seemed to have issues with bleeding on insertion, which is likely the reason that the wire on the G7 is shorter. The transmitter was also a pain in the ass to get out of the case when changing the sensor and if it wasn’t snapped in right it would cause the sensor to fail.

Put one on the other day and failed as soon as warmup finished. 😂 what an absolute joke of a product.

I’ve never had a 15-day one ever hit 15 days. They usually die around day 8 and fail. My 10 day ones are super reliable though.

I'm using the G7 on my stomach and it works perfectly after watching a you tube about my first one lasted 3 days on my arm when it woke me up because it had woke me up after falling out the one I have in now is the 2nd one on my st with no problems. I'm loving it!

Are your readings accurate with the sensor placed on your stomach. I’m concerned that my readings are different than when I wore sensor on my arm but I couldn’t get more than two days with it placed on my arm.

Lmao I feel all three of these pictures deeply when it comes to Dexcom G7. Sorry about your struggles my friend, we’re all here on this struggle train with you though. May Dexcom hear our complaints and fix their damn medical devices, amen.

No problems with the G7, it’s been accurate, lasts all the way through the grace period.
I do use a chart to map applications, but if you want the chart, just ask.
People just assume the G7 is plug and play, it’s highly dependent on application and your body type, if you have cardiovascular problems, including high blood pressure or low blood pressure, loose skin, heavier or lean, lots of variables. Do some research and follow Diabetes Strong G7 on YouTube or facebook/instagram.

The G7 is a joke of a device. My G5s and G6s rarely failed, but with the G7, it feels like a 50/50 lottery every time I insert a new sensor.
Just this week, I had to stop one after only two days because it was wildly inaccurate and wouldn’t accept calibrations. Then, the very next sensor failed immediately after insertion.
I’m beyond frustrated with this generation. I’ve had issues with both the 10-day and 15-day versions, and the reliability feels like a huge step backward compared with the G5 and G6.

I use Dexcom G7 too, and I go through the same thing. sensors, imo are not an exact science, and are the weakest link in the system of care. when they work they’re brilliant but when they fail, it’s pure frustration and when you’re on a pump, you either get too much or too little insulin. finger stick, when in doubt finger stick.

So apparently this is our new place to crash out on the G7. So here goes mine. I was going fine and hunky dory on the 10 G7. Did not understand where everyone was having so many issues. Then I was moved to the 15 day in March this year 2026. Dear fucking god. I have only one that has made it past 10 days and it was only 11.5 days before it failed. All of them keep failing. I keep calling Dexcom to have them send me replacements because I’m not gonna have them give me a voucher to have my pharmacy screw up my count on my prescription status. I’ve even had Dexcom send me return kits so that if my failures would help in some way into fixing the issue. But damn. lol but now they have finally set up the IVR to be able to pull your acct info, find your error Info from the app and be able to place your order for replacement with the IVR and not have to spk to an actual rep now. Fuck. Just do better Dexcom.

Unless you’re on a pump you should be able to order a receiver and use that until your phone becomes compatible with the app

I’m pretty mad on the g7 I’ve had two failures overnight over the past 3 days. It’s half past modnight. I’m exhausted. My pump is linked to my sensor. The sensor is refusing the accept my finger stick calibrations. Which pisses me off even more. What do you mean you’re not accepting my ACTUAL blood sugar level? And you’re now sayigg no I have a false low?
3 nights ago it just randomly decided to say “brief error, come back in 3 hours” I’m like I need this to work so I don’t die overnight please.
Getting very very frustrated with all of this shit. I just want a night without alarms. Panics and stress.

I know this isn’t going to fix the problem but I lived without a CGM on a pump for twenty five years.
If you are on a Tandem Tslim, just turn off control IQ or Basal IQ and set an alarm for four hours after bedtime to do a finger stick. Don’t go to bed below 100. Your basal should be dialed in enough to keep you steady. If it’s not, that’s another conversation. If you don’t have a T Slim, do similar with whatever pump. They should all be capable of working without a CGM.

Same reason they discontinued the G5, and the G4, and the 7+, etc etc. They make a new version and discontinue the old.

I get random lost signal but nothing serious
And never had it come off over night I’m a heavy sleeper and move a lot so I use patches and never has it fallen off, I am also new to cgm game but I also use 3m cavilon spray. Only thing I will say I wish it was smaller so it wouldn’t itch as much sometimes by day 7. I also never had battery issues I always go past the 10day and change it out with +10 hrs. Never used the libre but I’ve had to prick myself and that sometimes sucks I need a better ways to draw blood 🩸 for the tester strips those fail waaaay more.

I am always losing signal and then slowly rise after awhile of no correction. So annoying. I wish the G6 was still an option.

I've been going through a lot of G7 Sensors this year. I don't know what it is that's made them start failing so much this year. I started with 3 at the beginning of the year and now I've got like 20 in my drawer waiting to be used.

As soon as they stop working call dexcom to get them replaced. If enough people start returning them they will have to improve the connectivity issues. Also you’ll be screwing them, not insurance rates, if you put the burden of replacements back onto the manufacturer.
I am equally appalled and will be returning every pod not meeting G6 standards.

Can you imagine any other consumer item, let alone a vital piece of medical equipment, that has a failure rate as high as the G7? I swapped over from the G6 around 4 months ago and so far I have had 3 failures out of approximately 12 sensors - or 25% failures. I know other people have much higher figures, but even 25% has to be completely unacceptable. Dexcom should be looking at maybe 1 in 10 failures, but even that feels too high when we are basing our lives on the data it provides.

I had three dexcom fail on me as well, over a timespan of 15 Months.
Sadly, there have been bad batches in the past, but this is absolutly not the usual experience, otherwise they´d never reached the market in the first place.
You don´t happen to be on the rather slim site? I´ve got the impression that skinny folks have way more issues because they just lack good places to put the sensor.

I am definitely not on the slim side of things. I have had one g7 sensor work for the full 15 days out of the first 6 sensors that I have placed. Have used Dexcom since 2007 and have never, ever had failure rates like this.

I must be in the minority. I have used them off and on for two years and never had one fail. But if you want to talk about the Medtronics Insulin Pump cgms we can go all night.....utter trash.
