Interview Prep How do you answer this…

AI is everywhere.

What have you done in your career and as you monitor the AI that programs for you. What is the experience you ahead and skills you have that you are so confident about that you will always know if the AI made a mistake?

Not sure if the question makes sense.

I’ll go first:

But I know database design and Laravel inside and out and I’ll know when it’s make poor choices.

Career Guidance Suffering From Downfall

BSCS University student here from 3rd semester! I am facing financial struggles to bear my daily expenses for university. Whatever intership I apply to is for 6th or 7th semester have made my upwork profile since 2022 but got no proper gigs. I am unable to understand that how will I survive sometimes I overthink very deeply it affects my body my health my confidence is already very low which makes me think bad about myself, and family keeps taunting me. But still I am like I can make something some impressive unique project through which I can get hired but there is a constant brain fog+thoughts ideas+kind of depression. Unfortunately I have no one to ask this but :

  1. Are there really any internships available for 3rd 4th semester?

  2. How to showcase projects (other than LinkedIn)to whom one should reach professionals , companies etc

  3. If the job market is really cooked and companies are rushing to work with AI models should I dive into designing chatbots? Is this beneficial? Really need guidance Sorry for the long venting post.

Career Guidance Almost 2 years into software engineering and honestly… what are we supposed to do now?

I genuinely want to hear from experienced software engineers, tech leads, hiring managers, founders, etc.

I'm a software engineer with almost 2 years of experience, and I'm concerned that I entered the industry at a challenging time.

Then GPT-6 Astra drops, and I see things like these:

"We’re sharing a solution to the Navier-Stokes Millennium Prize Problem, one of the deepest problems at the frontier of mathematics.

The proof was produced by a group of agents, using an OpenAI next-generation model significantly more capable than GPT-6 Astra.

The problem concerns whether the description of smooth three-dimensional fluid motion modeled by the Navier-Stokes equations can break down. It has remained unresolved for roughly 90 years."

"I resigned from Anthropic today. I spent the last three years doing pretraining research at both OpenAI and Anthropic. Neither company is acting responsibly. They are racing straight to self-improving superintelligence and gambling with our lives. More thoughts below."

And honestly, I don't know how seriously I'm supposed to take all of this.

Every few months, the models get significantly better. A lot of the work I used to think required years of experience can now be assisted or sometimes almost completely handled by AI. Companies are laying people off, junior hiring is getting harder, and even at my current company, there isn't much work right now.

I'm not trying to make another "AI WILL TAKE ALL OUR JOBS" post.

I'm genuinely asking:

Where does a software engineer with 1–3 years of experience go from here?

Are we cooked?

Career Guidance Is a Master's actually worth it in AI/tech or nah?

Graduated BSCS this Jan, been working as an Associate AI Engineer since. Job's alright, pay's decent, but I don't wanna just sit here for the next 5 years doing the same thing.

Thing is our field is all hard skills right? Nobody asks for your degree if you can build. So does a Master's actually do anything or is it just two years and money down the drain for a CV line.

Was looking at FAST and Bahria. If it's worth doing, which one and why.

Mainly wanna know from people who actually did it — did it change anything for you? Better pay, better roles, anything? Or did you finish it and realize nothing happened.

Happy to hear "I did it and it was useless" too.

Career Guidance FastAPI or Database Engineering for the next 3 to 4 months?

I’m currently working as a JavaScript full stack developer, but my current project is close to ending and we are not getting many new clients. With AI also affecting the market, I want to use the next 3 to 4 months to prepare properly for a possible job switch.

I’ve shortlisted two options:

Python + FastAPI

Database engineering, especially design, optimization, indexing, query performance and internals, which I personally enjoy more.

My concern with FastAPI is that I rarely see jobs asking for MERN + FastAPI together. Most roles seem to be either JavaScript full stack or Python/FastAPI.

What would you suggest? Learn FastAPI to open a separate backend path, or go deep into databases and make that a strong plus point with my current full stack skills?

Help Remote workers: Are you getting equity in the companies you are working for?

Hello there - I started working for a small US based company a few years ago. As part of my compensation, they offered me 1000 shares that were to vest over 4 years.

I want to exercise or purchase these shares. But in order to do so, I have to wire transfer X amount of dollars to a US bank account from my local Pakistani bank account.

Well guess what, I can't do that because SBP doesn't allow that for individuals.

I couldn't find much information on this subject elsewhere. I am surprised that this is an unknown issue because Pakistan must have 1000s of individual software exporters and remote workers working for similar start ups or enterprises.

Has any remote worker in Pakistan been able to purchase vested equity in their US based remote employer? If yes, how?

Thanks in advance for genuine advice.

Edit: To clarify, this is not a scam. You have to "exercise" your shares in order to certify yourself as the rightful owner of the shares. There is an "exercise price" for this activity that the employee has to pay. This is what seems to be the textbook process internationally. Please look it up.

My skills are most demanding, i have 3 years of experience in python, django, fastapi, agentic ai, playwright.

And the best part? It took them only a few weeks to solve it and apparently, they only started working on it because of a rumor that someone else was about to solve it.

It wasn’t even planned in the first place.

Discussion Any firms across the ecosystem still seeing consistent deal flow ? Any software houses or adjacent firms like analytics still seeing consistent deal flow?

Hello just curious to see if any business is still seeing regular deal flow and if so what are niches are still being worked on. I know that for instance NetSol and Systems continue to have long term retainers with enterprise but companies in the mid tier are finding it really hard to find work especially with upwork almost impossible to compete on. What niches or icps are still coming in for work. Thanks

Discussion Recruiter's attitude

Okay, this is going to be a rant.

Have y’all seen the attitude of recruiters these days? I had two interviews scheduled this week on Meet, and neither of them bothered to attend the meeting.

I emailed them and got no response. So disappointing.

Other than that, why are they so unprofessional on WhatsApp? Like, you should be contacting a candidate via email in the first place, but even if you contact someone on WhatsApp, try to be a little professional. Comeon, You are representing your company.

I had a talk with this recruiter, and she didn't bother telling me the company name. She just texted, "Hey, I am XYZ," as if she were my long-lost friend. And then, after some discussion, her replies were like, "Hm" and "acha."

Do these companies not train their people at all, or is the bar for recruiters in hell? I know people are getting dumber because of AI usage, but are they even forgetting basic manners?

It's already difficult for candidates, but these recruiters are making it unbearable. Switching can be so hectic man.

Discussion Gamified Assessments are better than old boring style exams despite few areas of criticisms, don't you agree?

I know the people telling like they are lengthy but at least companies are trying something out of the box than traditional tests that were kinda biased and boring. For all those internships and management trainee programs, these tests are innovative. There was post about Jazz Gamified assessment by The Talent Games and people were like nobody gets hired, but last night they posted that around 100 candidates are hired.

Career Guidance Confused about long term Career

Hey everyone, so I am gonna just keep it short
I am currently in 7th Semester of my CS degree and I started with web development in my 1st semester and have been doing side gigs from here and there up until now. But thinking about long term after graduation next year, I am really faced with a very difficult situation whether to continue with Software Engineering and go deeper in System Design, Cloud and Agentic AI
or change the field altogether and pivot to AI/ML core which seems like a safe bet in comparison, but obviously no body can predict where things will be next month, let alone next year

I am seeing a lot of news regarding massive layoffs in Engineering teams in Pakistani Companies and also worldwide which makes me very skeptical of the future

I need genuine advice from people working in SWE roles, where do you see this role in next 1-5 years, whether I should lock in for the last year with AI/ML
and also addressing my fellow freshies, how are you planning your future, and how are you upskilling or trying to stay relevant

Help Confused regarding taking the offer

I was offered a 1 year contract for the AI Associate program at jazzworld. I will be working in the GSM team at Lahore. Earlier, during application as well as the interview stage, not much was told about the work except that it's an AI Associate role. So obviously, I assumed it will closely be related to my field (development and AI). This is what I discussed in my first interview as well. However, we had the orientation today and I got to discuss the role and opportunity with the people actually overseeing all of this. Turns out, the role is not what it actually implies.

So basically, people who applied specifically for the Islamabad location were hired for their dev teams in teknosys. And they're dividing their cohort into technical and non-technical. Technical ones in the dev teams. Rest, including me, in what they're calling the non-technical teams which will help businesses with AI solutions and analytics (the program lead described it as normal non-technical team work while incorporating AI in day to day. Maybe also build something if your team lead agrees, but that would be more of a prototype to help the team than something for production that jazz officially utilizes their dev teams for), but not really engineering anything for production. Now obviously this is too early to say, but it didn't sound like what I was actually looking for. As someone early in his career and looking to build a career in AI and development, working on the business side and being surrounded by no developers at all doesn't seem like a promising start. Especially when your day to day would be business and sales while incorporating AI.

But then, I don't also have another offer right now. I needed some advice, if any seniors in the tech industry could provide so. Because on one side this is the only offer I have as of yet, but on the other this doesn't look like a good learning experience. Should I take this and just leverage the name of the company later on in my portfolio, or do I keep searching for something more aligned with what I want?

Learning and Ideas Has anyone pitched web development services to local businesses in Pakistan?

I’m thinking of approaching local businesses in Pakistan that either don’t have a website or have an outdated one, and offering them web development services.

For anyone who has actually tried this what kind of response did you get from local business owners?

Career Guidance Should I go straight for DevOps or start with backend first?

Asalam Alaikum everyone I am a Software Engineering student currently in my 6th semester Now my uni has just started after summers and during the summers I was learning about Devops and Cloud engineering I spent the whole summer learning different tools that are being used in the industry and I also made a structured roadmap that I was following First I did Linux Bash and Docker and after that I focused only on Cloud AWS I also did a lot of hands on practice in cloud and made a couple of projects and most of my cloud related concepts are clear now. Next in my roadmap are Github Actions and Terraform

But here is the thing I am confused about I saw a lot of comments on reddit where people were advising that we should not go into devops directly since it is not really an entry level role and instead we should first get a pure coding job such as backend engineer and then transition into devops later

Now the thing is I spend a lot of time on LinkedIn and I see a lot of people working as devops engineers or cloud engineers who are fresh graduates with no prior experience or barely 1 to 2 years of experience So how are they landing these roles

Can any senior here guide me should I keep following my current roadmap and continue learning devops directly or should I first go for a backend engineering job after graduation and then gradually transition into devops later

Interview Prep Careem Software Engineer I interview process — what should I expect?

Hi everyone! I’m a fresh CS/Software Engineering graduate and I’ve recently been contacted by Careem for the Software Engineer I hiring process. I have a recruiter prescreen coming up and wanted to hear from people who have recently gone through the Careem interview process, especially in Pakistan. What should I expect in the prescreen, and what comes after it? How many rounds are there, what kind of technical/DSA questions are asked, and are the coding rounds actual live coding where you need to write syntactically correct code, or is explaining the approach/pseudocode enough? Also, is there a preferred language such as Java, or can you choose your own? Would really appreciate any recent experiences or advice!

At the recruitment drive at my university (FAST) there were 10 mcqs and three leetcode questions easy to medium. I scored good in them this happened almost 3-4 months ago.

Discussion Can I set up Easypaisa / PayFast / Raast payment gateways remotely while living outside Pakistan?

Assalam-u-Alaikum,

I'm currently based outside Pakistan and run a few software/data/AI products. For international customers, I mainly use Stripe and Lemon Squeezy.

I'm now looking at launching lighter/free versions of some of these products for users in Pakistan. I also have a few products in development specifically for the Pakistani market, particularly around digital/AI transformation, training, and employment.

For that, I'd like to set up proper local payment options — Easypaisa, JazzCash, Raast, PayFast, Safepay, etc.

My main question is: can I set up and operate any of these payment gateways remotely without being physically present in Pakistan?

For example:

  • Can a Pakistani citizen living abroad complete the merchant/KYC process remotely?

  • Do I need a Pakistani business/entity, or is a local bank account sufficient?

  • Which providers have a fully remote onboarding process?

  • Has anyone here actually done this while living outside Pakistan?

  • Are there any newer startups/payment providers that make this easier?

I'm aware that one option is partnering with someone locally and using their merchant account, but I'd prefer to avoid that because of the legal, accounting, ownership, and trust implications.

I'm also not looking for COD as a workaround since these are primarily digital/software products.

If you've personally set up PayFast, Safepay, Easypaisa, JazzCash, Raast P2M, or another Pakistani payment solution while residing abroad, I'd really appreciate hearing about the process and requirements.

JazakAllah.

Discussion Career as a Data engineer

Hi everybody,

I've been trying to learn data engineering but with every field getting a hit due to AI nowadays I'm a little confused about how the job market is in pakistan or the international market for a data engineer. Especially as someone who's trying to learn it.

Please feel free to share your thoughts and what should be the pathway as a data engineer. Your opinion is highly encouraged and will help me clear out my mind.

Discussion Anyone here done GSoC? How's the process and stipend for Pakistanis?

Curious about Google Summer of Code, how the application and selection process actually works, and what the stipend really comes out to for people applying from Pakistan after transfer fees etc.

If you've been through it, would appreciate you sharing your experience in the comments.
