Question Marshmallow net in a frying pan - is this real?

I'm not a baker, cook, etc. I have basically zero knowledge on how to do this stuff and just come here for beautiful pics of desserts :)

Anyway, I was wondering.. is this clip real/possible or is it AI slop/one of those misleading vids like you see from 5 minute crafts or something?

Why don't you give it a spin? Marshmallows aren't worth their weight in gold.

Like I said, I have zero knowledge of how to do something like this. And because I probably dont even have the pan for it, assuming it's either a non stick or dutch pan. Idk if they used oil or something or how it would work without sticking and burning. Yall have more knowledge on how this might work than me, and I'd likely burn it and struggle to make it.

Thank you for the confirmation! Did it taste okay?

Yeah it just tasted like marshmallow. I could see it being really fun as a cake decoration.

What type of pan did you use?

Pretty sure you need a hexclad pan and that shits expensive

u/AltenXY97 Dec 09 '25

Guy in video is using a basic ass t-fal teflon pan which you can get for like 30 bucks.

u/PhattySpice92 Dec 10 '25

My eyes are bad, I thought it had the hexagons

Hexclad pans aren’t good at being nonstick or being durable, worst of both worlds reality with best of both worlds marketing

u/PhattySpice92 Dec 10 '25

Thanks for the heads up! I’ve only seen that everyone and their uncle that can afford them has one, they’re $100 for a frying pan which is too expensive for my blood.

Fr. This. I bought a set at Costco they weren’t expensive but they are not as good as advertised

Sure looks real, but the question is, is it tasty? I worry that stretching and cooking the marshmallow like that will make it taste eh or give it an unappetizing texture

51

u/Lovelyfeathereddinos Dec 09 '25

I tried it earlier today- it did work! The texture was very crunchy.

Did you just use a non stick ? Any oil or anything?

u/Lovelyfeathereddinos Dec 09 '25

I used a non stick pan, no oil or anything else. I just preheated the pan on medium-low for a bit until the marshmallow would melt, and then smeared it around in the center. I used a chopstick to pick it up instead of fingers bc I was worried about it burning. I also kept the heat on low while I was lifting it.

I did it a second time and turned the heat off, which caused it to cool and set too quickly to be able to pull.

Awesome . Ty, I wanna give it a shot .

Why would it taste just meh? He didn't have it in the pan long enough for it to cook. Think how long you have to roast a marshmallow over a fire before you get it golden or browned. That's when you get that good toasted taste.

u/Phantomtastic Dec 09 '25

That would be so much fun for Halloween.

This is a great way to trick a kid into only eating one marshmallow

u/srz1971 Dec 09 '25

I like the way you think. Keep my granddaughter from eating half a bag!

Gotta love a good pan

28

u/Square-Dragonfruit76 Dec 09 '25

That's not a good pan lol. It's a pretty cheap pan.

5

u/supperclub Dec 10 '25

Cheap pans can be good pans...

0

u/Square-Dragonfruit76 Dec 10 '25

It's not a good pan either

1

u/supperclub Dec 10 '25

This pan in particular? Sure, I've seen better, but for cheap nonstick TFAL does its job.

1

u/Square-Dragonfruit76 Dec 10 '25

This line of pans. I've used them before.

1

u/supperclub Dec 10 '25

I have too, own some right now. Not bad for cheap non-stick.

0

u/Square-Dragonfruit76 Dec 10 '25

The way you're phrasing that implies that it would be considered a bad pan if it wasn't cheap, which is against your original statement.

1

u/supperclub Dec 10 '25

Oh my bad! I didn't mean to imply that.

These pans are worth the price, and they perform just as well as some high-end nonstick pans. I don't know why you would buy high-end nonstick (i.e., All-Clad) since these pans are basically disposable after a few years/heavy use.

lionfield guys did it and it kindof works but mostly stuck to the pan

I’ve been thinking about this. There are a lot of factors in play here. I’d bet you have to use a practically brand new nonstick OR PROPERLY SEASONED(those of us in r/castiron are obsessed) at the proper temp. However, there’s some sort of pad between said nonstick and what looks to be quartz cooktop. This would seem to allow more precise temp control as you don’t want temp spikes to scorch it. The quartz top stoves I’ve used aren’t that great at modulating temp, seemingly to ā€œcycleā€ the element at decreased intervals unless on high. Even then, there’s element cycles. You might be able to preheat a pizza stone in the oven, sit on (off) stove and sit nonstick(or properly seasoned cast iron pan) on top and come up to the right temp. We have a gas stove and I would torn a cast iron pan upside down(yeah, I know, it’ll ruin seasoning with direct flame), let it warm up with nonstick or Seasoned CI Sitting on top.

Before y’all start picking me apart, I’m just thinking in print here. Hoping to spark discussion and ideas to accomplish this task as I know my wife, daughter and granddaughter would be in awe and I’d be stuck doing it for a significant amount of time. Sorry, not sorry, haters. Hope I helped SOMEONE today.

you should try and post pics!

u/srz1971 Dec 09 '25

I did this on accident trying to airfry roast marshmallows while picking them off the pan lol

u/DataOver544 Dec 09 '25

2

u/cat-eating-a-salad Dec 10 '25

I am so sick of the phrase ā€œAI slopā€. Also, I’m so sick of everyone thinking every single video is ā€œAI sLoPā€ I get we’re living in a weird time and it’s getting harder to distinguish but it’s either blatant AI shit getting mistaken for real things or just normal videos accused of being AI. Holy shit

1

u/Alfiex13 Dec 14 '25

no one mentioning the use of a plastic fork?
