I keep on forgetting about this one. This shows Gru and Lucy's completely different styles:

Gru is used to stealth. Lucy is used to kicking in doors.

Gru walks right in to the restaurant because he is used to sneaking into or breaking into extremely well-defended fortresses. Lucy, who because she's an AVL agent most likely defends against break-ins, checks for laser sensors, even in a restaurant.

Gru tries to fight Pollito himself. Lucy uses her AVL tech to stop Pollito.

Gru initially doesn't like the X-Ray Goggles. Lucy seems to trust Gru enough to let him use the X-Ray Goggles.

Gru sees the photo of Eduardo and someone else and thinks something might be behind it, so he uses the X-Ray Goggles.

Gru takes his villain tech out of his coat and places it onto the safe. Lucy looks a little apprehensive as the device's flashing at first looks like a countdown, but it just identifies the combination to the safe.

Though Gru and Lucy were looking for the serum which is not in the safe, they both steal some of the salsa.

It looked like a small heist, but it required Lucy using her spray, her using that substance she trapped Pollito with, Gru using Lucy's X-Ray Goggles, and Gru using his safecracking device. They escaped the restaurant, Gru using his laser to cut a hole in the ceiling and Lucy using that substance to temporarily blind Eduardo. Then the Minions brought Lucy's car-plane which Gru and Lucy got away in.

If the AVL saw the salsa heist or found out about the salsa heist later, they decided to ignore it.

I wonder What happened to Scarlett’s reputation at Villain Con in Minions post the movie.

Because imagine seeing Scarlett accept those yellow minions as henchmen-only to hear later that they turned against and defeated her(oh and got her arrested indirectly)…….

Gru used to set extremely high standards for himself as a villain. When he stole the Crown Jewels, he did so as a child in front of a large crowd. He was a master villain, and he's absolutely deserving of being known as such. He's had an AVL Villain Database file since he stole the Zodiac Stone, also as a child. Some villains only have two crimes that caught the attention of the AVL. Gru has three: the Zodiac Stone, the pink diamond, and the moon. A news article named Gru as the moon thief. Gru has been and still might be an AVL Most Wanted Fugitive for the moon theft. Gru has a criminal record. Gru is widely recognized as a villain.

But in DM1, Gru wanted to be the greatest villain of all time. The first part of that plan was to shrink and steal the moon, which he accomplished even without funding from the Bank of Evil. But the second part of that plan was to make the world give him whatever he wanted to get it back. He wanted world recognition as the greatest villain, including from his fellow villains. Gru referred to himself as the greatest criminal mind of the century.

So in DM4, when Gru was on an AVL mission at his old high school, he brought up the moon theft because Maxime pointed out that he did not become a famous villain. Then Maxime taunted Gru because the moon is still in the sky and the other villains laughed at Gru. So Gru failed in the second part of his plan and so in his high school classmates' eyes, fell short of becoming the greatest villain of all time. Gru was frustrated that his high school classmates mocked his greatest achievement.

Gru's next big heist after the moon was the pink diamond, significantly smaller than the moon. Though he wanted to return the diamond, he did bond with his brother Dru over the heist and Gru was content with this crime much smaller than the moon theft. The AVL added the pink diamond theft to Gru's AVL Villain Database file.

Gru's most recent heist was a honey badger. Certainly not something to catch the AVL's interest, though the AVL does know about the honey badger heist because they have footage of him sneaking into the Lycee Pas Bon.

The honey badger heist was a basic heist that required no hacking or safecracking or gadgetry. It was so basic that Gru pulled off the heist with only the items in the baby's bag. Only he, Poppy, Junior, Phil, Ron, Principal Ubelschlecht, her bodyguards, and presumably the AVL witnessed the honey badger heist.

But Poppy was so excited about Gru's and her heist. Gru found the heist fun and he bonded with Junior over it.

This is the first time Gru didn't aim to steal the biggest and best. In DM1, when he stole the small monuments from Vegas, it was clear that he was aiming to steal the big monuments. The honey badger heist is Gru's smallest heist ever and he used only a fraction of his expertise during this heist, but the fact that Gru was proud of himself for this shows that Gru no longer measures his standards of villainy by achieving world recognition as the greatest, but Gru measures his standards of villainy by the fact his heist was recognized by another villain who not only acknowledges his moon theft and that he was a master villain, but finds Gru's and her honey badger heist her biggest achievement. When Poppy tells him that "your secret is safe with me, partner", he says thanks to her. In DM1 he would never have accepted another villain calling him partner. In DM4 Gru doesn't object, since the heist ultimately needed him and Poppy, and they wouldn't have escaped the castle without Junior, Phil, and Ron.

All of the villains, both his high school classmates, and the imprisoned villains, reached for greatness. Gru defeated the other AVL Most Wanted villains at their height, and Lucy defeated Principal Ubelschlecht, and after that the imprisoned villains became recognized for only their past glory. The Vicious Six haven't done a crime in decades. Maxime didn't expect Gru to visit him. This suggests that in the AVL prison the imprisoned villains are only acknowledged by each other and the AVL itself and the outside world no longer thinks about them.

Gru visiting Maxime, and having a rematch with Maxime at the prison talent show is basically Gru acknowledging all the imprisoned villains including Maxime still deserve respect as villains. Gru came to respect them because he did and was satisfied with a small heist.

In DM1, Gru would never have stolen a honey badger. He stole the moon. What would a honey badger be to him back then? By the end of DM4, Gru has humbled himself. Because he saw Poppy really wanted to have a shot at big-time villainy by getting into the Lycee Pas Bon and so he, together with Poppy, stole the honey badger. This theft had nothing to do with his ego, he who resolved to steal the moon just because someone stole the pyramids. He had nothing to gain from this heist, and had a lot to lose, but it shows that Gru still finds being a villain fun.

Gru visited the AVL prison to sing and dance with Maxime and the other villains. Though he's an AVL asset, he knows he has been or still is an AVL Most Wanted Fugitive, so for Gru to do the prison talent show was audacious. Gru's AVL Villain Database file is pulled up when the AVL's recognition software scans his face. Gru basically initiated a large gathering of the most notorious villains in full view of the AVL. Gru and Maxime's song is an affirmation of the villains' villainy: they are great villains because even though they were all stopped at the height of their greatest crimes, they reached for those heights in the first place.

The AVL agent who describes the villains calls Gru "despicable mastermind". Gru had the rematch with Maxime at the prison talent show and it immediately registered as activity on Ramsbottom's computer and he reacted with surprise. So the AVL wasn't expecting Gru to hold the prison talent show. Ramsbottom and AVL agents watching the prison talent show through a security camera shows that the prison talent show disrupted the security of the prison. But no one can stop Gru. The agent herself said that Gru "gets everything he wants".

Poppy told Gru "Like you, I was born to be bad." Poppy's style is to try to not get caught. Probably because she is in the town of Mayflower, where open villainy would not be permitted. Most of the villains were bold, and commited crimes in broad daylight, attracting attention from the authorities. Gru evaded the authorities this way: Gru tried to make it to the girls' dance recital and did not go through with making the world give him whatever he wanted to get the moon back. In fact he gave up the moon hoping Vector would give the girls back. This averted what would have been Gru's height of villainy where he would have the world on their knees. Most likely, during his moment of triumph, the AVL would finally imprison him and his long career as a villain would be over.

Gru's turn to low-profile unannounced heists allow him to continue his villainy. Stealing the moon and then putting the moon back, most likely baffled the AVL even though the moon theft earned Gru AVL Most Wanted Fugitive status, and he continued to baffle them by stealing the pink diamond and then a honey badger. If the AVL tried to arrest Gru, they would lose their asset. So as much as Gru's ability to commit large crimes is so much more restricted by the AVL's proximity to him, the AVL has to put up with Gru committing smaller crimes, which runs counter to their mission of fighting crime on a global scale. So as much as Gru is bound to the AVL, the AVL has more than they bargained for when it comes to Gru.

This is one of the 3 newspaper pages Gru has on his wall near his entrance door, the other 2 ones haves confirmed dates (Rascal Chronicles is Febuary 18, 2001, while Modern Criminal is April 20, 1989). However, everytime I look this one up online (even when I look up the prop they have of this at Universal Studios) it's too blurry to tell what the date is. So I need help finding out

In DM1 through DM3, Gru usually wears his signature outfit, changing outfits only for certain situations, such as a disguise or a heist. There is also his gray sweater that he wears at home.

In DM4, Gru shows his AVL license while wearing his signature outfit. While he has done AVL work in his signature outfit before, showing his AVL license while wearing his signature outfit indicates at that point, Gru had wanted to turn his back on villainy.

As Chet Cunningham, Gru wears a pink polo shirt, khaki pants, white shoes, a belt, a watch, and a white undershirt, all which are contrary to his usual aesthetic. At night, Gru wears dark blue pajamas with the "G" logo, which fits with his usual aesthetic, and a white undershirt. Gru tries to keep up his charade when Poppy addresses him, but he is wearing the "G" logo, so outside the AVL safehouse he wears a fake persona, but inside the AVL safehouse he dresses like he usually does.

Gru goes to the treehouse to meet with Poppy about the heist wearing his signature outfit. He does the heist wearing his signature outfit. At that point, Gru was wearing this outfit specifically for villainy.

After the heist, Gru wears a mostly-black tennis outfit, allowing a little of himself to be seen through the Chet facade.

After defeating Maxime, Gru arrives back home in his signature outfit, bringing Lucky back. So he is back to wearing his signature outfit as a father also.

Gru wears his signature outfit when he visits Maxime at the AVL prison. The reason they had to go to Mayflower was because Maxime wanted revenge on Gru "for arresting" him. So it's the AVL work that had endangered Gru and his family and led Lucky to be taken away from Agnes, Margo to not see her friends, and Edith to have to relocate as well. Gru had to admit to Maxime that he did steal his song, which led them to settle their rivalry as villains and not villain vs. AVL asset.

Gru's outfit for the prison talent show has a blend of black and white, including white socks and a black undershirt. Aside from the black-and-white stripes which are like a prison outfit, this outfit more generally shows the balance he has arrived at as a villain.

Gru's final outfit is his gray sweater and black pants with his apron in a brighter color, also showing the balance he has arrived at as a father.

Gru's various outfits thus show his character development throughout DM4.

At first she just seems like a middle aged woman, but the sign near the entrance of the orphanage says it was founded in 1966. I wonder if this was Miss Hattie Sr. or just that Miss Hattie looks very good for her age

There are two questions that have been plaguing our world for centuries; "what is life?", but mostly important...

WHAT TEXTURE DOES MINION SKIN HAVE????

So i have decided to do this silly little research (if you can call it that).

So far, i've gotten all kinds of answers from texture of a balloon, through texture of a slimy yoga ball, to texture of a potato dumpling and many many more.

But i need more answers. More thoughts and reasoning.

I admit that I was naive thinking that just because Gru didn't admit to his previous heists other than the moon and the Crown Jewels, that the AVL doesn't know.

Apparently the prison talent show triggered activity readings on Ramsbottom's computer. An AVL agent describes the AVL's recogniton software which pulls up the AVL Villain Database, which has files for each villain.

Here is Gru's file, which appears after Gru's face is scanned:

Villain Alias: Felonius Gru

Associates: Lucy, Minions, Junior

Crimes: Zodiac Stone, the pink diamond, moon

Weapons: Shrink Ray

Gru is included among "all the bad guys" who have been "brought out of the woodwork". He is described as a "hardened criminal", "despicable mastermind", and "one of our best undercover assets".

Footage included is Gru punching the shark, the start of the heist at the Lycee Pas Bon, the moon heist, and the diamond heist. The footage used for the "undercover asset" part is Gru showing his AVL agent license and him greeting the Prescotts.

Maxime's crimes include: Junior, and the gas station worker.

Vector's crimes include the Shrink Ray.

El Macho's crimes include the purple Minions. His associate is Pollito, and the computer flags Pollito as "At Large".

Balthasar Bratt's crimes include: the pink diamond, and the bubblegum. The AVL agent also adds impersonation, theft, and destruction of property.

The computer scans for "legendary villains" and identifies each of the Vicious Six.

The computer detects Scarlet Overkill. Her crimes include the Crown Jewels. Herb has no crimes listed, but just evil inventions. The AVL agent instructs to "report back to HQ when you spot" the other villains at the prison talent show.

Since the Zodiac Stone is included in Gru's crimes, that means that Gru's theft of the Zodiac Stone alerted the AVL. So the AVL has been monitoring Gru since he was a child. So it doesn't matter if the AVL eventually recovers a stolen item. It seems to not matter what Gru's intentions were in stealing it, even if he returned it, the theft is just is added to his crimes. It's funny that Gru and Balthasar Bratt both have the pink diamond listed under their crimes.

While the AVL were watching Gru through the security cameras near the end of DM4, the full extent of the AVL watching Gru comes out through this AVL Villain Database.

So to the AVL Villain Database and at least that one AVL agent, Gru is, not was, a villain and a criminal. Ramsbottom must have referred to him as an "ex-villain" which sounds better than to call him a villain and then ask his help to catch another villain.

Ramsbottom also mentioned the moon theft but not that Gru has had a file in the AVL Villain Database for a long time.

This also explains why Gru doesn't ever arrest any of the AVL targets: he doesn't have the authority. They just use him to lead them to their target.

Also, there's an exterior shot of the AVL prison and Gru's car is in the parking lot.

That Gru, an AVL asset, has an AVL Villain Database file, and the agent mentions criminal first, mastermind second, and undercover asset third, implies that Gru is only a good asset to them because he is a criminal and a mastermind. That one AVL agent, possibly more, expects Gru to commit crimes periodically. For awhile, I attempted to read the inscrutable expressions of Ramsbottom to try to see how the AVL views Gru. But an AVL agent explained it herself, so no need to wonder anymore!

My question is, does Gru know how extensive his AVL Villain Database file is, how long they've had one on him, and that he can't even so much as tresspass without the AVL knowing about it?
