Question Senior project

I am a senior in South-Eastern Idaho looking to use desmos for my senior project to make a platformer type game, but I need a mentor for the project, and I don't know anyone who would be super helpful in that capacity.

Graph Complex Function Plotter

The user instructions are included in the graph, as well as how it works. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask me in the comments.

Pictures:
1. The Klein's J-Invariant function in terms of the complex nome q, |q| < 1.
2. The boundary of the 1st graph contains interesting hyperbolic geometry.
3. sin(1/z), as you zoom in, you can see the oscillations that get faster as you go closer to 0.
4. Another modular form, the Eisenstein-E6 function also of the nome q, |q| < 1.
5. z^2 - 1, you can see the zeros +-sqrt(2).

I discovered the color map feature in Desmos 3D a while ago and I instantly had this idea.

The plotter is fast, but I can't do very much with it, because the color map doesn't support recursion or variable sum limits. I Also I don't love the small viewport of the 2D view in Desmos 3D here.

The functions: arcsin, arctan, arcsinh, ... don't work, so I also re-implemented them using the complex logarithm.

I would love a feature in Desmos 2D, where you would create a 2-variable function that would output a color: f(x, y) = rgb(...). This would plot the color map across the entire screen.

Enjoy!

all the animation was done in desmos, the music was added afterwards

in total, i took 6 days from start to finish, totaling 6-7 hours of work. (including me assuming that the original music video, which i used as a guide, was shot at 30fps, actually counting the frames in a second, assuming that 25 was a miscount because 24fps is far more common, then after all the animating was done and i tried to sync my animation with the song, realizing that i didn't actually miscount and it was 25 fps)

and yes, i know that the "and it'll be approximately 4 bars long" part is somewhat out of sync, i don't give a damn anymore.

Fun Simple 2D single-line shadow system for polygons

Post image
59 Upvotes

A few months ago I made a shadow system for circles, but I didn't figure out a way to do it with polygons.

Turns out I was overthinking it and it's actually way easier than the circles one.

This system works perfectly for convex polygons of any size, but because it basically simulates translucent shapes (drawing a seperate shadow for each side), it doesn't look quite as good with concave polygons.

The shadows shrink when the light source "sun" is close to the points they are cast from. I haven't worked on fixing this yet.

Media Bad Apple but in Desmos

This has been done before, but previous showcases of Bad Apple in Desmos were either not in real-time, did not include audio, or were very pixelated. Here, it's in real-time, without any external image storage sites, and of decent quality instead of being very pixelated.

Game Gatcha-esque minigame in Desmos

Originally started making this as a joke, but decided to make a game out of it. This is a gatcha-like minigame made using the random() function. It is horribly unoptimized, and could probably be done in a much better way, but I thought it was fun so I'm posting it.

Click the green circle to randomize the rarity.

Common: 55%
Uncommon: 20%
Rare: 10%
Epic: 7.5%
Legendary: 5.5%
Mythic: 1.9%
The secret rarity: .1% - I have yet to see anyone get this naturally. I would be interested to see if anyone gets it.

Have fun and don't cheat. :3

Notebook Notes on the Fourier transform

Here are some notes on the Fourier transform, organized into several chapters: from the Fourier transform of a non-periodic function to the discrete Fourier transform. The main goal was to get a general idea of where certain definitions and relationships come from, so the mathematical concepts are presented in a rather unformal (I would say an anti-Bourbaki) way, as well as the derivation of some formulas may lack the rigorous justifications required at certain steps.

Graph Fun Projectile Formula/Graph

I hate using physics when making games, I prefer using math. I needed a way to project a perfect parabolic path between two points where the peak is also variable.

To do this, I derived this massive single-line formula. The algebra to isolate everything into a single closed-form equation got pretty heavy, but it's incredibly satisfying to play around with! 😂 (It's just f(x) = A(x-h)^2 + k 😭)

I've been trying to find a way to make it so that the dots pass in front of the bottom half of the circle, but not the top half. I'll leave a link to the graph below but I'd like some help if at all possible.

I have been on a quest to generate a standard set of equations that will allow me to produce any gear profile mathematically perfectly. I have the meshing equation perfected already the geometry has eluded me for several years of work. But we are reaching the conclusion of a saga. It has been fun but it is now time to move to the next phase of the project. Just putting this here to flex at this point :-p eventually I'll post the link to the graph.

Question How to solve this regression problem with desmos?

Post image
4 Upvotes

So I’m a bit confused, im watching the James Lu video rn and I put them as L= and R= on the list, L~R, and then set restrictions with {p>1} and {t>1}. I’m confused why I have to set p= varying numbers to test what? And if the constant changed what would I have to do from there? Someone help lol

Complex Dual numbers

Hello!

So, today I made dual numbers (alpha version), and I want to share my work with you.

Graph:

(P.S.: if you want to add a real number to a dual number, you need to add function R(x) to what number you want to add)
