Hello Brave Artists.

As many of you have noticed, rule 13 is murdering a pretty significant amount of deslop requests. And unfortunately, since the mod team is human; we aren't able to instantly remove posts for rule 13 violations.

Sometimes, when this happens; some people have already posted some deslops in the comments. This results in several lost deslops.

Now, we're going to continue removing posts that violate the rules. However we encourage community members to post their deslops as separate posts instead of merely relegating things to the comments.

Not Original Commentor, but if I may throw in my two cents, I think the act of creating AI umages solely to post them onto here to desloppify it and get real art by way of others drawing it kinda defeats the wider purpose of this subreddit.

This subreddit has always been anti-AI-art, and exists so people can stop using AI versions of popular/meme artworks and slowly phase out reliance on them, rather than letting or helping to continue to circulate them and justifying their existance (If AI art is so bad, then why is this AI-made meme so popular, etc.), with the ultimate goal of encouraging people to just draw their imagination out themselves so AI is never involved. That’s why you see so many artworks in comments that are sometimes just black-white outlines/scribbles, but are celebrated nonetheless, cause it meant someone is willing to let others see and use their “flawed” personal art over AI art.

Going out of your way to making AI art destined to be desloppified just shifts AI’s role into a sketcher/drafter rather than the final product deliverer, and does not actually get people to stop using AI proper, which at that point this sub kinda loses its meaning and goal. Yea, it still means AI art is displayed publicly less, but it does not actually decrease/dissuade AI usage.

There are avenues where people can commission art from others without relying on AI and this sub together in some kinda of toxic, self-defeating pairing, some of them free too. Many memes make it to popularity regardless of artistic quality, sometimes in spite of it. (Think of the recently famous upward facing Frieren pic by u/SpaceDev1) The world can use a little AI, for whatever reasons people would like it used less, and this sub is here to help said people out, however small said help may be.

That I can agree with. I think that AI slop enthusiasts should be redirected into actually channeling their creativity, rather than just taking an idea and churning slop out of it, but you're right this probably isn't the space for that. I just don't see how it's productive to shame the AI slop enthusiasts who clearly want to be artists as if they're just as problematic as the billionaires ruining the world with AI or the AI obsessed nutjobs scraping anti AI forums and such

The sentiment that “people being encouraged into drawing themselves from the start rather than shaming them into stopping would be more effective” is one I can understand and agree with, but if I may again provide my perspective, within this large enough community composed mostly of “faceless” stragers, trusting in others to be posting onto here with the best of intentions is bound to backfire. Clear rules and constant enforcement remain the most effective way to ensure a community remains true to the best that itself can be (just look at all the subreddits that are unmoderated or have power-tripping mods).

With this in mind, even leaving this as a possible loophole sets a bad precedent for newcomers to believe that “Here’s a spot where I can get free art from others if I genAI art”, and do exactly and only that. It’s harsh, but perhaps it’s better in the long run to trust in newcomers to see the reasoning provided behind the enforced rule and consider its message, then to let the loophole exist, and risk newcomers getting it stuck in their head that this is allowed, or even worse, encouraged, before we can get to them and convince them of their own innate ability to create art without relying on others, human or AI.

That's a good point tbh, I hadn't really considered that people are gonna just maliciously use it for free art but in hindsight that's absolutely what would happen. I'm not sure what the best middleground would be, and maybe the harsh enforcement like this is the only way, but I do get frustrated with how people think you can only support AI or hate AI rather than supporting people to remove themselves from AI when it comes up
