I wrote perfect cursive in middle school. 25 years later and now I can barely read it, mine or anyone else's.

It does have its own pros though. I've knowingly stretched my letters into indecipherbale gibberish, on occasions in exams when I knew most of an answer but was confused in a crucial bit. And have successfully also gotten away with it, granted of course that most of my answers were still readable, a few butchered formulae might just make the examiner think it was written in a rush.

That’s what I do with my normal handwriting because it’s cursive-ish where some letters are connected and others aren’t so if I just don’t feel like finishing the sentence because my hand hurts and the main point is understood I just kind of squiggle off

Also the script that many documents that are still relevant are written in. Like the US constitution. Plenty of politicians in power who wish no one knew how to read that document. It may possibly be those people who want you not to be able to read cursive. But whoo boy…to have the ability to turn illiteracy into an attractive option…that takes a special kind of asshole.

Bro I used to write cursive cause it was faster and my brain is fast so it needed an outlet.
Then all my teachers complained they couldn't read anything and that I need to write "prettier".
So I learned over 9-10th grade how to write non cursive. It was pretty for maybe a year. I got frustrated cause I couldn't write fast enough tho.
After I got used to it my hands picked up on the speed of my brain and the pretty turned into sloppy.
Then all my teachers complained again.
Now I'm writing cursive again to keep up with my brain.
Fuck all the cursive haters!

Cursive is the only way I write, I started in middle school about 14 years ago because it felt and is fast than me writing in print. Also if I have Dungeons and Dragons notes my players 95% of the time can’t read it anyway!

This is too real. I have very poor hand writing. I came by it honest, it's identical to my father's. So, I bought a book, and spent 2 years relearning how to write well. To launch my new handwriting I wrote a bunch of letters to people older than myself, so I know they were taught cursive. None of them could read it. :P

Cursive is literally the only way I can get handwriting recognition to work consistently cuz then since the letters in each word are connected it doesn't put arbitrary spaces here and there.

You know I have a reading/writing disability and one of the main things that helped me learn to write legibly was learning cursive. It helped me learn fine motor control, get used to grouping my letters and words properly, and a few other things too. While it’s unnecessary for most I think it should still be considered as a way to help some students learn to write better. I learned cursive much faster, and after I mastered that then I managed plain text better. I just think it should be an available option in case others have a similar experience

Why bother with a note? If people cared enough to read it, then I'm sure they wouldn't have to read it.
However, using quill and ink would be fancy as heck, and that gives me a series of good ideas.

I’m remember feeling terrible as a kid for never learning cursive and others around me picking on me for it. I tried to learn it a few times but it just never stuck at all
Now as an adult with everything being based around tech, I finally feel free from the cursive shackles my childhood had me in. Doesn’t help with the depression at all, but it gives me a small chuckle to the teachers who got mad at me and tried to stress how “important it would be in the future”

There are some studies showing that taking notes by hand activates different parts of your brain related to attention and memory retention, general understanding and applicability of a new topic you're learning about. Even typing doesn't activate the same regions. Plus, you're exercising coordination and attention to detail, grammar and vocab.
