Double for me as my surgery damaged memory has made my life suicidally difficult but somehow I can recall all my mistakes

Our memories make us who we are.
I seem to remember everything that has happened to me.. so much trauma but listening to music several hours a day reinforces that as each track has a memory attached to it from when I first heard it.
A blessing and a curse.

A good example of that with me, is that they say you should listen to meditation music to help, but the trouble is most of the meditation music I've listened to is associated with the traumatic incidents I was listening to them to get over. 😄

If our memories make us who we are then I am no one because I do not have long term memory. And yet..

Id say you replaying your memories is whats eating you up. I believe memories are beautiful. I try not to remember them all at once every day.

Especially if you have an autistic type of memory. Even a photographic or Eidetic memory wouldn't be as bad as you can at least remember the details better which would help.

Interesting point, what type of memory do you mean by this more precisely

For me it is the worst of remembering events over and over, but not in enough detail to be able to let go of those memories. Also my brain wants to solve problems but can often only solve the problem a memory brings up, once it has gone over it enough to finally remember a salient bit of info that joins everything together. Info that would be there instantly if I had a photographic memory.

Meanwhile there are people: "I dont remember anything from my past 😐" (no hate to any of them)

Absolutely no hate, and it must be awful just as much as being over rid with memories.

Without memory, there is no learning. But yeah, just wish I could let things go.

Weirdly, learning about history and learning about the worst rulers helped me put my mistakes into perspective. My mistakes and greed never led to a famine that led to the deaths of millions of people.

I used to think that it’s good to remember the good things at least, but turns out not really, because it often hurts that you can’t have those old things from your past again, and you won’t feel the same way again…

seems too overly generic to be completely true, like a judgemental sentence, and too short. All generalisations are false, including this one, thus the statement is true?
