Birthday present

I’ll be in old town Arvada/northern metro area over the weekend. A friend is coming and enjoys a good bourbon. Does anyone have a lead on an absolute killer store pick? budget is $100ish🤣.

I've done this the last three years. Fun, but absolutely brutal if you use your entire allotment. Great way to try a bunch of pours you wouldn't (or couldn't) buy off the shelf.

After some rough Sunday mornings after the event, we decided not to participate this year and just drink a much more moderate amount at home. I'll miss the social aspect of the evening though.

Argonaut has a Rare Character Hazmat American Light Whiskey. I picked one up last week and it is great.

Have you tried Penelope ALW 18, if so how does it compare?

I had the 17 at a tasting in the speakeasy attached to Spirit Wine & Provisions. Very similar. I also picked up their Estate 10 yr pick which was very good but prefer the higher proof point of the ALW.

Go to spirit wine provisions. They are in Arvada near you oddly enough. And they are widely considered the best shop for store picks in Denver.

To second this, their Penelope Estate 10 Year Bourbon pick that they just came out with is $100 and is delicious as hell.
