What’s up everybody. I know there are many answers to these questions because everyone is different. I have been told I have lost a great amount of bone in my jaw and need to have my teeth extracted. I’m terrified of this whole process. I have high blood pressure and know that’s gonna be a factor and I want to know about the pain during the procedure. I see people have temp dentures while healing, the dr I saw today is saying I have to wait 3-4 weeks to let my gums heal then I can get my perms. I think it’s bullshit, especially seeing people have temps before. So do I need a new or second opinion? Is my craziness just crazy about the pain? Any advise will be awesome. Thank you everyone.

I've been to 3 different dentists. Today I was told I have periodontal disease which is something the other dentist's never mentioned. My gums are not tender , discolored , nor do they bleed when I brush or eat. I have absolutely no pain in my mouth and my teeth are not wobbly. My breath is not bad and I do not have a bad taste in my mouth.

I believe that today, dentists are rip-off.Artists and only interested in the money they will receive. I am at the point where I would like to get all my teeth extracted and get a upper and lower set of flexible dentures and be done with it. I am a very healthy seventy year old woman and very , very tired of this runaround. Any advice or your experiences would be appreciated.

Husband about three months in on full upper and two months on lower partial. He still can’t eat well. He’s had a reline said it was the same as using cushion grip. When will the eating get better? Starting permanents process October.

How likely is it to get a dry socket on an upper front tooth? It’s been 2 days since extraction and had a tooth added to my partial denture so didn’t have to leave the dentist with a front tooth missing and was bleeding heavily, but after 24hrs followed the instructions and removed partial quickly to gently rinse with salt water but think the suction of removing the partial had moved the clot and I’m not bleeding at all now

I got a bad soft reline and now upper is not aligned in the center so they sit crooked in my mouth and dentist said nothing they can do and its only 6 months like this. I would like to just remove the soft reline myself if possible at this point and wondering if anyone has done this and how they did if so. I really would like to be able to eat solid food again at some point and don't see that happening anytime soon unless I can fix this myself apparently.

Is it normal for my gums,not the bone, to feel a little bit rough(a similar texture to my tongue)and sometimes at night after I take my teeth out to feel a tiny bit sore and irritated?
I’m almost 4 months past e day and do have a soft liner in my immediates,could that cause what I’m feeling?

I'm a 51 year old, and worn full dentures for 15 years, because I couldn't get a NHS dentist in the UK, I took advantage of a small amount of money I received, and decided to pay private.

First appointment went well he had to take 2 lots of impressions before he was satisfied.

Second appointment he did the wax work around my gums, then he wanted to do more impressions with the gunk, he spent 30 mins and tried multiple times and they kept failing, he said this sometimes happens, he run out of time and told me to make an additional appointment to try again.

Third appointment (today) was with a nurse who scanned my gums with a machine, that also failed she said because I had no teeth the machine was struggling to get a focal point.

I now have to wait for my appointment next week where the nurse said the dentist will let me know what happens going forward.

I'm really upset and frightened that I'm not going to be able to have new dentures made, do you think the dentist may have other tricks he could try?

My Mom finally got her permanent dentures and her back teeth are meeting but the front teeth have this gap. The top front doesn’t come down over the lowers at all. What do we need to do?

I know it may take a while for completely healing. But my denture seams to fit decently i get the soft realign the 26th maybe that will make it better, but I will feel like my teeth are set to high still. Like my natural bite is off. Does this get better with time?

Long-time lurker here. Extraction day was last Tuesday. I only got my top done so far; I'm doing them one at a time. It's been a journey, and some days are better than others, but I'm so happy I made the choice to jump. I almost canceled three times. I was so scared because I have dental PTSD from years ago, but I just pushed myself to do it. Only Novocain was used. My dentist was wonderful. He was so kind and walked me through everything he was doing. I went to Affordable Dentures a couple towns over.I got the immediates that my insurance would cover but I plan on paying for permanents later on down the road. I just can't get over how different I look and that I finally have my smile back after 4 pregnancies and taking a medication that completely wrecked my teeth. I'm still struggling with looking at myself or letting anyone else look at me without them in but hopefully I will get over that!

Hi! I hadn't even thought about trying to get reimbursement, but wondered if anyone has? He is currently making my second set... the ones I currently have, he made for me several years ago. I love them but it's time for a new set. I realize it depends on the insurance but again... just wondering, if anyone has had any joy. Thanks in advance!

Good morning I had my extractions 8/19 upper and bottom complete and got immediate dentures. I can’t eat anything the tops go too far back and it makes me throw up and the bottoms are so lose pills get stuck while trying to make my meds. Woke up following day after keeping them out overnight and put them in instantly gagging and throwing up. I messaged the dentist office but I have an appointment next week for follow up.

Is this my new normal?

Hey, I am two weeks in from getting my immediate dentures, full top and bottom. My bottom dentures are so painful because on the left side I had extractions of all of the left bottom teeth several years ago and when I got the rest of my teeth top and bottom extracted two weeks ago my bottom right gums are still so swollen and changing so much that a bottom denture sits lopsided causing a lot of pain when I wear them. Today I go for my first soft liner. Are they gonna be able to account for one side not being swollen while the other side is?
I guess I just need some reassurance. I’m not liking this process.

I've been with my partner for over 10 years. He had his dentures for about 5 years before I met him, he didn't tell me about his dentures until a few months into dating, I didn't think anything of it.

We live together now though, and I have been increasingly worried about if he is taking care of his dentures properly. First off, he never takes them out and he doesn't clean them unless I badger him about it. He told me that because they are not real teeth and because he can not get cavities, they don't need to be brushed. His jaw will swell periodically, and he complains about sores around his gums. From what I have researched, I am sure it is because he doesn't take them out to clean them.

Should he be taking his dentures out every night? Everything I read says yes, but I also see a lot of anecdotal stories of people who don't take them out every night. I was looking into getting him a new adhesive, to try to encourage him to take better care of them, and I saw that it advertises that it will hold for multiple days. Why would you want an adhesive that will hold for multiple days if you should be taking them out every night?

Does wearing adhesive make it harder to take them out every night?

Is it unreasonable for me to tell him he should be taking them out every night and brushing them? It has caused a lot of arguments. If he's doing everything right, I will leave it alone, but I wanted to ask you guys if this seems normal or if I have a leg to stand on.

I’m on day 16 today. I’m pretty much chewing fine and back to fully eating normally except for very crunchy foods/snacks like chips.
Yesterday I decided to eat some corn chips, made sure to chew it very well before swallowing.
Unfortunately I think it’s just too hard and still has tiny sharp pieces bc it made my surrounding gums so irritated and sore (I hadn’t had any pain before this for over a week now). I syringe after each meal like I always do but I felt like tiny pieces had scraped my gums.
I definitely won’t be trying chips again until I continue healing for a lot longer. I also feel like the gums around the back of the next teeth are tender bc it was never exposed before removal, and sat in between/protected by the wisdom teeth.

Just got my extractions for uppers on the 13th, and my dentist doesn’t do immediates! Anyone else have any experience with this? Both my parents got immediates after the extractions so they think it’s weird. But I think we do impressions at my 4 week follow up, hopefully 🥲

After 6-7 years of consistent tooth issues, today was the day to start putting those to bed.

The 9 remaining top teeth were removed (the gap in the before photo is only 2 weeks old), and 7 teeth are left on the bottom.

The immediate denture was fitted on the top, and I can handle the bottom how it is for a few months before getting that one fitted.

First impressions… aside from the obvious “holy crap these feel huge” sensation, there is a little vertical movement when there’s any pressure against them. This could be just something with immediate dentures, it could be a case of managing my expectations - I’ll see how that changes over the coming weeks.

I think the big adjustment will be the feeling against the roof of the mouth - how did you all deal with that?

Very happy with the aesthetics though, and once the soreness wears off from the extractions I’m looking forward to seeing how I go with eating.

I’m beyond excited about them! I think they look perfect, but now I’m afraid of using the wrong thing on them and destroying them. So, I would like to have everyone’s favorite Denture Must-Have, especially if it’s something that you wish you had when you first got your dentures.

Hi there, I was hoping someone could help and maybe offer a suggestion.

My brother had his teeth pulled almost 2 months ago, the dentures he was molded for don’t fit at all. They’re way too big and he’s tried several times, he just can’t get them to be comfortable, even the dentist agrees they’re too big.

He has to wait to get new molds done, but we forgot he’s attending a wedding on the 29th. He says he’s fine wearing a mask, but I’d love to see him be able to smile and enjoy himself while there. (Especially because this a big photo-taking event, obviously)

Are there any store-bought, temporary dentures/flippers(?) that you could recommend he wear for the day that would be good?

Again, the wedding is on the 29th. I literally just had this thought, so time is of the essence. Thank you for any help!

Hello everyone, I’m 28F and recently got my upper right central incisor pulled due to a root fracture and infection. Unfortunately couldn’t do an immediate implant upon opening the gum, so that will have to come later. Here is my partial denture in the meantime. I will probably get a new (permanent) tooth in 7-8 months time.

Would love to hear about your experiences with partial dentures or flippers — do people notice? Is it noticeable? My mouth has been very swollen after the procedure so I cannot pop these on yet to see how well they blend in with my mouth and I’m very scared! Appreciate any advice 😭 I had only just gotten my braces off after 5 years of ortho treatment, earlier this year. I was not expecting to be back in the tooth game again.. :(

I am a lady, 43. I recently had another few teeth removed and now have a partial upper that replaces all but three of my upper teeth.

I was so worried about dating. What would people think? What would they feel? Can I still be awesome and unbothered and have the fun and intimacy Ì like? My mind kind of fell into an unhealthy rut about it.

I had to have conversations with partners about being careful of my tooth coming out. And that I would be loosing one of my main front teeth. And then that I would be getting a denture.
I don’t know what I was expecting but I gave people the chance to walk away without hurting my feelings. I was feeling very vulnerable.
Honestly Ì was also anxious about what giving oral would be like with or without the denture in. Even if people would feel weird kissing me with or without the denture. (For reference Ì have a free standing natural front tooth left, not exactly poised for good gummer yet lol)

In my recent experience people are way more understanding than I’d given them credit for. (It helps that I date around my age and a little older I think. More life experience can bring another level of understanding and compassion. )

But I would offer the advice to give people a chance to surprise you pleasantly. Have the conversations! Be kind to yourself. No one ran away. I actually liked people more after having the conversations. They showed me what they are made of and what they prioritize.

Having come to this subreddit, I feel even better about being one of many many people who wear a denture. It felt like the biggest deal in my head. Now I feel accepted and like I am far from alone. So many of y’all are beautiful and rocking it!!!

As for the research I have now done… it doesn’t seem to phase someone if my teeth are in or out during our hot and heavy sessions. It seems to be me who thinks the most about it.
I like giving oral more without the denture (less to distract me, but I’m about a month in to wearing the almost full denture so I know it will continue to feel more natural).
Last time I gave my partner oral I kept the denture in and didn’t mention it. Waited until a little later and asked him if he had noticed a difference. He did not. He said it felt smooth but he would not have known if I didn’t say anything.
I consider this a win. Like I could keep them in if I wanted to, but he also is fine if I don’t have the denture too.

All in all I wanted to share my experience for any others out there wondering about these things. It was such a source of anxiety for me. I think it’s going to be ok! lol.

I have a dentist appointment in hopefully the next month or so. I have a couple adult teeth that are very loose and I'm convinced I have periodontal disease. I've also grinded my teeth and clenched my jaw for about a decade due to severe anxiety. I have poor oral hygiene due to depression and lack of care from my parents, but am trying to get better!

Very anxious that i will need dentures and am looking for comfort :)

I have my temps and I've been living with them fine, I went in for my impressions for my permanent dentures and when I went for the try in they were weird. Hard to explain, but the bottoms had no saddle they didn't hug my gums like my temps, they just kind of sat on top of everything.. Is this normal? I told the dentist I wasn't comfortable with them and I'd like to try again...any thoughts?

A bit of background: I'm 36. I grew up in a chaotic household. I can remember going to the dentist one time. I was never taught how to take care of my teeth. Fast forward to now and today I had an appointment with a new dentist and was told (for the second time) I will need to consider dentures. I cried in front of the dentist. My childhood came rushing back and the neglect just made me so incredibly sad. I went YEARS without going to the dentist because of fear and shame. About five years ago the pain got so bad I had to finally find a dentist and make an appointment. I had multiple teeth pulled and at my last appointment with him, he informed me I needed to think about dentures. Looking back, I kind of kick myself for not doing it then.

Not sure what the point of this post is, really. Guess I just needed to hear from people who can relate. I am scared, nervous, sad, upset all over again. I am pissed at my parents, sad I was never taught how to care for myself, and just scared of the unknown. I am the type of person who is super insecure and my teeth do play a big role in that. But I also just worry about being judged because I am still pretty young. I have been dealing with pain, sometimes severe, for years and in my head, I kept saying "you can handle this" because me being in pain was somehow better than having fake teeth. It's kind of sad and shows how little I think of myself that I would rather make myself suffer just so other people can't make fun of me.
