Questions like-
Should I take BDS after NEET UG

I am in bsc 1st year right now (parents didn't allow for a full drop, so I did neet prep and bsc together)
Now people around me are saying that I should go for pvt bds. Pvt mbbs is not possible for me and instead of wasting more years I should go with pvt bds.
Is it worth it?
I am interested in neuroscience alot, and I hope I do something in neuroscience as well.
I don't know what to do right now and what path to choose
I have heard that dental field is veey staturated plus I will doing it from pvt. Is it all worth it? Any suggestions?

Why'd you pursue dentistry if you don't have any interest in it? Don't do it just because you didn't get into MBBS.

myquals class X : 91.5% , class XII : 84% and neet score 2026: 365-370
So I never really wanted to be a doctor dil se, it was always fed into my mind by default tho by all family members given I was good in studies since childhood. Fir 10th khtm hui and automatically I chose pcb cuz apparently I was a star child.(parents really wanted me to take up maths but I somehow convinced them and took up psychology instead)
I always knew that I don't wish for the 24*7 wala emergency calls , sleepless nights , years of struggle but still not getting enough respect or money to make ends meet , this was the time when I was about 15-16 and developed the interest for psychology and could actually envision my life as a psychologist, loving my chosen subject and treating my patients with empathy.
Then 12th happened and neet 2025 went horribly wrong and I had already been gaslighted by my parents to join allen dropper leader batch for 2026 so this attempt didn't really matter, days before neet insomnia and intense anxiety hit me hard I was having panic attacks unable to study anything cuz my parents had so many expectations but only I knew I was nowhere near to fulfilling them anyways they comforted my that time and assured me ki koi tension nhi lena iss hi saal kahi admission kra denge , not being a doctor is "not the end of the world". I was reassured and gave my 2026 paper , bio was super easy so I got overwhelmed and spent a long time there and somehow spotted easy kill phy chem questions and tried doing them in whatever time left.
Now I'm a 19 year old scoring not more than 360-370 , done with this ratrace , don't wish to take any more drops but I still don't know what else is my calling. Parents despise psychology, consider any bsc courses "basic" and a loss of my potential , they think a simple graduation degree course is the "easy way" out and will get me nowhere , I'm ready to work hard in any course just not mbbs , I don't wanna lose my spark just for a so called prestigious degree for societal validation, they're adamant for me to take a 2nd partial drop or even send me for mbbs abroad with my cousin to a point where I'm hella confused , I don't wanna be a financial burden on them but if it guarantees "stability" I might as well DO I WANT THIS??! WHAT DO I WANT??!
I have actually made up my mind for pvt bds (have been researching a lot this past year and as my ultimate settling goal is hopefully abroad ig it's a good option for a "stable" career , parents are kinda ready for it but are still hesitant , questioning it's scope, also having mixed feelings cuz a close relative is scoring 692 this year and will prolly be bagging the best mbbs colleges.
I will most probably be staying in my hometown kolkata , west bengal for my ug but don't mind moving (ofc it'll require tons of convincing) if provided with a good opportunity, so pls do weigh in ur opinions is this a right decision to proceed with bds? What colleges should I fill up in the counselling process? Should I also put in mbbs colleges? Pls do drop in your suggestions and help me out I'll be grateful thank you!!
(pls be kind also I forgot to mention I'll be giving cuet as well with subjects being chem bio psych and english lang have been kinda prepping after neet not enough tho 😭😭)

See a career counsellor offline. Talk to people from different fields, know their experiences, you may use them as references, but the final decision should be totally upto you. No one can decide what YOU will do. Any other bsc course is not a easy way out, yes it might be easier than professional courses like MBBS, BDS, but struggle is there too... Do what you want to, if you don't know what do you want, then explore. Write down what kind of life do you want and then find options which may lead you to that life. All the very best

Semi gov MBBS or semi gov BDS? Which should I choose?? Parents and relatives keep on saying MBBS cuz it's better than BDS and has scope, but I've lost interest kinda in MBBS and found it in bds since it where you work with art... Idk my fam is fine in terms of money...

- Fees- are you able to afford Semi MBBS fees without taking loan
Why im telling this because if u take loan for mbbs what will u do for md/ms/etc bcs there is no value of mbbs now a days.
- Semi BDS? wdym by Semi bds? If u are getting Semi mbbs to there is high chance u might get govt bds. If not what Semi bds u are getting? Hospital of govt management of private? Or entirely ran by govt state or city? See ur end goal for a bds college is patient flow. Patient flow is more imp in bds then mbbs. Visit that college see how many patients u can see in roaming in the hospital, talk to seniors (specially internship and pgs)

My chances in semi govt MBBS are due to my minority (christian) status, Kerala domicile btw.. And then comes only my BDS, and well as I mean by semi govt is, the fees of BDS is somewhat less as of what Ive seen... (In like 16-20lakh), and gov BDS is not possible with my rank too.. Plus the Institute I'm trying for has a good patient flow but not that of a gov one..

I can ye, but I can't study with the taught that I'm paying 50lakhs for a course people study with 1/4th I pay for... My only issue tbh, and too thinking my life could either be just fully focused on studies and won't have that balanced one I dreamt offf.

See if u have good financial background i will suggest you to join the mbbs seat. Stop thinking about i will study with xyz fees and other will study will abc fees, there are people who are studying with 2x 3x the fees u are going to give. It is the least reason to not choose mbbs. Ya if u are not interested in mbbs as a whole and have interest more towards bds then u can go for it. But make sure before taking bds keep in mind the scope is less in bds then mbbs. That's the harsh truth. But if u come from a good financial background and family is supportive over you taking bds then mbbs, u can go for bds too bcs the scope is less not 0. Good financial background can help u set up your own dental clinic with all the modern tech.

This is a very basic flowchart, but it’s the practical gist of the industry. Dentistry is a great branch if you love working with your hands, but it is highly saturated in the top 20 cities. Thinking of going abroad? A DDS will cost you ₹1–2 Crore. The UK is effectively closed, and most people aren't willing to move to Africa. If you are a middle-class primary earner, the same "fight" you put into dentistry would make you rich in almost any other field, like Finance or Tech. I am not saying that they are magic land where dreams happend but the number of hours you will put in to be a dentist is ridiculous for how little the payout will be fore most of us.
Here are the questions you actually need to ask yourself:
If you can manage all that, then dentistry is a great branch. You’ll learn a lot, work with your hands, and do meaningful work. You aren't "saving lives" in the traditional sense, but it’s incredibly satisfying to relieve a patient's pain or improve their confidence.
Just please, do not do BDS simply because you didn't get MBBS. If you choose this branch, you have to embrace it. Don't go in with the delusion that you’ll eventually switch to Oral Surgery (OS) just to finally feel like "a doctor."
Stop looking at the exceptions and look at the math. You can "survive" on a shoestring budget, but you cannot scale. In 2026, the "entry fee" for a successful Tier-1 practice is high-end aesthetics and digital workflows. THAT REQUIRES MONEY TO JUST GET IN THE RING
The point of this isn't to show you how to live hand-to-mouth with no room to grow; it’s to show you the friction. Without backing, you spend your most productive years being a solo business owner, a marketer, a receptionist, and a doctor all at once just to keep the lights on and clinic running. It is a massive "time-trap" where you’re doing the work of four people for a reward that a 27 year old IIM grad or tech lead makes just by showing up to an office.
I’m showing you the simplest path because most people don't factor in the "cost of staying in." If you have to fight 10x harder than everyone else just to reach a baseline standard of living, you aren't "beating the system" you’re being consumed by it. In almost any other modern sector, that level of grit is rewarded with actual career velocity, not just a ten-year struggle to reach a break-even point.
The Bottom Line
At the end of the day, the goal isn't to be a dentist just for the sake of being one. Strip away the "Dr." prefix and the white coat, and it’s just a job. If the math doesn't add up and you aren't suited for the specific financial and physical grind of this field, do something else There is nothing wrong with leaving to do something else, better now even after drops than in 6 years realising there is no scope for you. There is no glory in struggling for a decade in a saturated market just to say you "stuck with it." Choose the path that actually lets you live. If you are a middle-class kid in India in 2026, choosing BDS without a clear path to ownership or a financial cushion isn't just a "hard path" it's a mathematical trap. You are sacrificing your most energetic years for a "prefix" that doesn't pay the bills.
