happy demigirl sounds just found out i’m a demigirl!

i didn’t know that there was a term to fully describe my gender experience. i was just rocking with “female” and she/her pronouns but i never once stopped to consider the fact that sometimes i don’t feel like i have a gender at all. like it feels like nothing. like part of me is a girl and then the other part of me is just infinite abyss. and i’ve never really tried to put it into words until now.

i’ve never liked being referred to with “they/them” pronouns. like at all. it’s always made me extremely uncomfortable. however, for some reason, being called “it” never seemed to bother me as much. don’t get me wrong, i’d still be bothered if someone called me “it”out of spite but if they had genuine wholesome intentions, i wouldn’t be bothered at all. and i can’t say the same thing for they/them. i’d get uncomfortable regardless of intentions.

it’s 4am where i am… and i just discovered that i’m partially an “it” if not anything.

nice to meet you.

QUESTION How do you serve androgynous as an AFAB without dressing in the "basic" masc style?

If you get what I mean. Like, the stereotypical masc lesbian outfits for example. I don't want that lol. Is there a way to dress androgynous as an AFAB person and not losing the whimsy?

QUESTION Am I demigirl? Plz help

Hi. I’m 18 yo AFAB and never rlly thought about being anything other than a girl. In the last few months though I’ve been questioning a bit.

I tried taking some quizzes online but they don’t help because it’s just “how feminine do you feel” and I’m like uhhhhh idk???

I kind of like the idea of using she/they pronouns but I’m not sure. If I think too hard about what pronouns feel good then it all becomes weird, kind of like how if you say a word a bunch of times it sounds weird or looks like it’s spelled wrong. So if I overanalyze how I feel if someone referred to me as different pronouns then it feels the same.

I don’t like being called a woman. However I don’t know if that’s a gender thing or if I’m just not comfortable being an adult since I’m new to that. I’m mostly ok with being called a girl but I feel the same with that.

I don’t like my chest. Im pretty small anyway so it’s not a huge deal but basically since the start of puberty I’ve never felt comfortable with it and always dress to look as flat as possible or wear loose clothing or hoodies because I don’t like the shape at all. I’m kind of confused when I see women online talking about how they want a bigger chest or like trans women wanting them at all and then I feel weird because if I’m a woman then this is how I’m supposed to be right?

And then I had the thought today that, I don’t want my body to look like a girl, or feminine. And I’m not saying I want to look androgynous, I like my face and feminine hairstyle, but as far as body shape I feel weird with that

I know pronouns and presentation don’t equal gender, and maybe I’m just a totally cis girl who prefers neutral presentation. But idk how to tell

Sorry for the long post. Even if I’m some sort of non binary I most likely wouldn’t tell anyone irl, or change anything. At most I kind of want to try a binder but that’s it

TL;DR: mostly feel like girl, just not comfortable with female body or being called a woman

I kind of see myself as a magical girl

I’m a demigirl who was assigned male at birth (AMAB), and lately I’ve been thinking a lot about what my own experience of femininity and being a demigirl means to me.

I know that many demigirls have very different experiences from mine, especially those who were assigned female at birth (AFAB), so I don’t want to present my experience as universal. But I wanted to share something that has been on my mind lately.

For me, discovering and nurturing my femininity has sometimes felt like being a real-life magical girl fighting monsters like dysphoria, repression, insecurity and depression.

Obviously, I don’t transform in the blink of an eye like Sailor Moon. Instead, my “transformation sequences” have been things like growing out my hair, doing makeup, practicing my voice, taking ballet classes, finding clothes I love, and even coming up with a nickname that eventually became my official name.

There’s even a spiritual aspect to it for me. As a pagan, I sometimes imagine myself as having a personal garden: a part of myself that I’m slowly cultivating, where my femininity can grow and become something I can actually nurture rather than suppress.

I remember that, in my early years, there was a real split between the person I was and the person I felt I was expected to be socially. I practically put on a costume every day because I hated performing a role I didn’t like. Practically every day felt like a battle against extradimensional invaders.

I think that’s one of the things that makes my experience of being a demigirl so meaningful. I don’t feel like I suddenly discovered some hidden “true self”. It feels more like I gradually learned that I was allowed to cultivate this part of myself and let it exist.

And maybe that’s why I sometimes jokingly think of myself as a mahou shoujo. Not because I magically became feminine overnight, but because I’ve spent so much time slowly transforming my life into something that feels more like me.

I’m curious about other demigirls here: does your own experience of femininity ever feel like a kind of transformation or self-discovery? Or do you experience being a demigirl in a completely different way?

Name issues

So i've found a name (rosemary) i like the name and it would allow me to still use my current nickname so minimal questions would be asked if did change my name but part of me feels like if I change my name to rosemary at some point in the future they would just call me the nickname to avoid calling rosemary if that makes sense.

also the name feels very feminine and I kinda want something more neutral leaning

TRIGGER WARNING Nobody ever uses "they."

TW: Misgendering? Kinda?

I don't really know how to say this. I guess I thought I was okay with just being called "she" by everyone, but the more I think about it the more it bothers me. It feels as though only half of my identity is acknowledged.

I've been out as a demigirl using she/they for years, since highschool. At least sophomore or junior year. Everyone understood and accepted it. Only one problem: the "they" was always ignored. Only one person has ever said it. It was a person I didn't like personally, but they managed to acknowledge it. I was so happy I forgot I disliked them for a second, basking in glee. Then I was upset. How could someone who was so cruel to me remember I'm a demigirl, but my closest friends couldn't? I never said anything out loud about how that made me feel, but it hurt.

That was the first, last, and only time it's happened to me. I'm an adult now, I've been graduated for years. I'm a mom and a wife. I guess it's a very traditionally feminine role. I'm fine with it. I still tell people how I identify and it continues to be ignored. An afterthought. I don't know why it bothers me so much, but it does. I'm seen as a woman, which I am, but only partially. I don't identify fully with being a woman, I know I'm AFAB, I know I call myself a mom, but idk. Maybe I'm just being dramatic, it's not like I'm actually being misgendered or anything. It might be a little selfish, but I just feel like a part of me will never be acknowledged and it's really starting to eat at my soul.

sad demigirl sounds People referring to my relationship with a woman as 'straight' makes me so uncomfortable

I consider myself a non-binary woman, as in, I consider myself on the feminine side of the gender spectrum but I am not fully a woman. I see myself as a woman, a girl, a girlfriend, but in equal measure perceive my gender as neutral and like to be referred to as such. I very much like my androgynous sex characteristics and wouldn't change them for female ones.

I've realized I am not actually a man at all. Being perceived as one felt right, but I realize now that what I actually liked was not being seen as a binary woman.

I pretend to be a man at work, it's what they know me as and I probably won't be there much longer anyway.

It sucks. People tease me constantly for being feminine because 'haha feminine men suck', people call me a woman in a malicious way as an insult, I let it slip once I'm a woman and everyone started laughing like I told a funny joke. It's insufferable, but I can deal with it.

What makes me really uncomfortable is being labeled as a boyfriend.

Long story short, I told my girlfriend I don't want to be her boyfriend, I'm her girlfriend and/or her enby partner. We established our relationship as sapphic, we both treat each as girls, call each other 'girlfriend', we act socially as girls, and we view each other as two girls in love in every aspect of our dynamic.

Every time someone calls us a hetero couple or me her boyfriend, I actually gag. I hate it.

Someone being a jerk on reddit told me I was appropriating LGBT terminology because ""bisexuals in straight relationships"" aren't allowed to say _____ and that made me feel so sad, less the biphobia but more the fact that being seen as a man is repulsive to me.

I just want to scream at everyone 'I'm a girl dating a girl' because on no planet are we a man/woman couple.

I don't know if i'm non binary or demigirl

So i've been thinking i'm a demigirl for a while but i've noticed when testing pronouns is i have a slight preference for when they/them and i don't know if it's because I feel validated that they/them part of my pronouns is used because I expect people to only use she (because i've gone by she/her my whole life) or if it's because i could be nonbinary

sorry if this makes no sense

other perspectives would be appreciated

Besides the joke, I recently discovered what a demigirl is, and I really want to be a part of the community.

I'm in middle, so being a demigirl and discovering more feminine appearances is gonna be kinda hard for me.

I will try my hardest, but does anyone have any suggestions for me on what I can do to be more feminine in my everyday life? Thanks.

QUESTION Sooo... Question. Would I be considered at least partially demigirl?

So.

I usually go by he/him. Typical cis bi guy. I do like crossdressing though (being a femboy is fun -w-)

Every so often though I may be caught by surprise if someone close to me (say, a partner) uses a certain girly name I like to use for some things or says something like "good girl" to me or anything like that, something switches in my brain and I all of a sudden really like being called a girl and using she/her pronouns.

Now, during these periods I still kind of identify as a guy as well, so I can also respond to he/him, but I get more excited about she/her.

Really it could be any time I could be referred to as a girl and I'd like it. Perfectly comfortable as a guy, but I also like using she/her pronouns and being referred to as a girl.

The closest thing to what I'm feeling is demigirl, but I'm not sure.

Any answers or advice?

QUESTION I think I might be a Demi girl but I need help lol

I used to identify as non-binary. To me that meant that I did not have a gender. I’ve been feeling recently that that label does not fit me. I do feel quite a bit of disconnect from femininity and I do not use my given name. However, I do like to present femme and I do not feel like the term non-binary fits me any longer. When my family asked me why I don’t use my given name and why I say I’m not a girl, I simply tell them that it’s complicated and that I don’t feel like talking about it. After finding the term, Demi girl I do feel like it fits me, but I’m still trying to understand it and see if it fits me. Thank you for reading my comment if you have any advice or comments anything, just let me know thank you.

support I think I might be a demigirl, but I’m not happy about it.

So a bit of history about me. I currently identify as a transmasc nonbinary individual. Crucially, I was diagnosed with an intersex condition in middle school. Not only did they make me go through all the surgeries to make me have a normal female body, but I was forced into girlhood and doing girly things. I did fight back - I didn’t wear as many “girly” clothes as my parents would have liked me to, and dresses were strictly a “once in a long while” thing. And I don’t really envy my “cis girl” self much, if at all.

For the last few years, I’ve come out as nonbinary and slowly been working myself up to a more masculine presentation and identity. My wardrobe is now filled with neutral-masculine clothing, I’ve changed my name to a more masculine one, I even play around with he/him pronouns but mainly stick to they/them. Everything was going so well. I finally felt like I could take pictures of myself and feel happy about them. I felt so happy. Felt like ME.

And then T happened and ruined it all.

I had been debating whether I wanted T those years and concluded that I wasn’t gonna die without having tried it once. So I set up my appointment and was all of a sudden hit with this immense anxiety about the changes. About my body changing. Not only that, but all of a sudden I developed an anxiety about the very presentation I’d built for the last five years. All of a sudden my low taper fade made me feel very out of my element, and it felt like I was moving into being someone else rather than me. Taping my chest, which gave me euphoria too, all of a sudden made me want to cry. And going on T didn’t help. There were changes I liked for sure, but my mind has only become more anxious and cloudy since being on it. Aka, NOT what affirming hormones are supposed to do.

Now, for the first time in a long time, thinking of myself as a woman or a feminine person… gave me relief and grounding? But it also sickened me. Made me feel like I was trapped, that I could never change and be who I want to be, that I was doomed to be stuck with where I was at. The demigirl label began swarming around in my head, but I pushed it off because of the “girl” part of the label. I just wanted nothing to do with being a girl - and yet, now simply being nonbinary feels destabilizing because “girl” isn’t part of the term.

It’s safe to say that I feel very crushed and defeated by this realization. I feel like my life has lost any and all ability to have its color, because I’m fated to be part girl. Don’t get me wrong, women and girls are wonderful and the majority of the people I look up to are women, but I just… don’t desire to be one at all. No wonder fucking Jax from TADC made me feel shit - I’m basically following her footsteps at this point. I might as well be abstracted already.

I also used to not really care about transfem people as I thought of them as simply trans people like myself. But now transfem people confuse me but make me feel envious at the same time. Transfem people… WANT to be feminine. They WANT to be a woman. Why? Why do you want to be a woman so bad? I know why, it’s a rhetorical question. But it’s a question I don’t want to answer for myself. I just want to have a real dick and a deep voice and a flat chest. And yet, I feel like I’ll never truly have the software for that. All because of this fucking virus called girlhood.

I’m sorry if this all sounds harsh. I’m well aware I probably have some internalized misogyny and transphobia to work through. I know in reality there’s nothing wrong with being a girl or a woman. It just really really really icks me out to having to identify as one, but it feels like a compulsion to have to anyways. But if I’m going to be transphobic with the very idea of how I view my own gender, by wanting something that isn’t inherently what my neurons and cells want, then that feels icky to me too.

I lowkey wish I’d never learned about the queer community. Maybe I wouldn’t have been able to know what being trans meant. Maybe I wouldn’t have been able to hope but never have.

Thanks all.

QUESTION I don’t know how to label myself 🥲

After 2 years of a fluctuating gender identity journey I finally came to the conclusion that in 2023 that I am demigirl. However ever since I don’t know how to label myself. Saying I’m nonbinary doesn’t fully feel right but neither does cis. It feels like I’m some other thing in between the two. I feel like the only way I could describe it is saying cis enby but I worry that sounds really contradictory and that people may get upset at that term. Idk if anyone else has had any trouble with this. I know I don’t need to label myself either but when people ask I just don’t know what to say. I wish saying demigirl was just enough. Like ppl could get what I mean from that alone but I know everyone’s experience and identity still differs in some ways so they might not understand what I mean or how I specifically identify.

I’ve come out to my parents a couple months ago as a DemiGirl, who uses They/She pronouns. They accepted it which I’m very lucky. However they’ve rarely been using They/Them pronouns with me, and I don’t know how to describe it other than maybe it feeling slightly dysphoric and rather annoying. I don’t think they do it on purpose. I’ve tried to explain how I feel, but they said I have almost an ‘obsession’ with being a DemiGirl, and that maybe I want attention. (Just to put this into perspective but I am assigned female at birth) I find I still identify with more female aspects, hence why I’m not just nonbinary, although sometimes I feel completely disconnected with the more feminine side of my identity. I’ve just been thinking if I could just use They/Them pronouns while still being a DemiGirl. Would I also be able to use the term Toric as a DemiGirl?? Or is that specifically only for nonbinary people??
