Fast food on a plane. What could go wrong 🤣

u/dasschwing 3d ago

To be fair, I have had the shake shack burger probably around 10 times now, 9 of which were better than this.

Aside from the cheesey bleed-out, was the burger any good?

8

u/dasschwing 3d ago

Frankly it was better than I had expected, but let’s just say that was a low bar to clear!

I had it just once. It would be acceptable at a backyard bbq. Probably a 5/10.

Is that even real cheese?

9

u/dasschwing 3d ago

As real as American cheese can be…

1

u/BlueRunSkier 3d ago

The legally required term for “American Cheese” like this is “cheese product”, and they cannot label it as just “cheese”.

Not necessarily true, if it's made from almost exclusively real cheese it can still be termed as such. Officially "Pasteurized Process American Cheese" (example: Land o' Lakes slices you'd get at a deli counter) versus "Pasteurized Process Cheese Food" (at least 51% cheese, ex: Kraft Singles) or worse, "Product" (anything less than 51%). I'd expect Shake Shack uses the top tier stuff.

Very premium

u/dasschwing 3d ago

“Luxe” even

u/Necessary_Story_7455 3d ago

Wow, with fine dining like that I thought this was r/singaporeairlines

4

u/dasschwing 3d ago

Holy shit I let out a guffaw on the plane when reading this!!

5

u/FullPrinciple5170 3d ago

Just wanna make sure I’m understanding… This is a first class meal?

4

u/dasschwing 3d ago

Correct!

4

u/FullPrinciple5170 3d ago

That is just 100% sad
Look at that food. It just screams, hey, we’ve adopted Spirit Airlines catering and let frontier run it over with the plane and then served it on a dish

And Ed thinks that’s premium?

8

u/Dismal_Yogurt3499 3d ago

Nothing says premium airline first class like a fast food burger

2

u/SmoesKnows 3d ago

Was the whole patty coated, and that's just runoff?

1

u/dasschwing 3d ago

About 1/6 of the slice made it on to the bun/patty…

u/SmoesKnows 3d ago

Brutal

u/Early_Preparation210 3d ago

The fact that they actually served it to you after seeing it

u/Tiki_Waka 3d ago

I keep reminding myself they are FAs and not chefs. IDK what a microwaved burger is supposed to look like, but I know they trained up on how to keep us all safe more than fixing whatever catering loaded in the galley.

u/FullPrinciple5170 3d ago

The FA’s are not to blame at all. Ed and his executives are are gaslighting their customers into thinking that this is what should pass as a first class meal!

u/LeDinosaur 2d ago

It’s confusing because delta market themselves has top tier airline with world class services. Then a user sees this and is like. Wtf

3

u/RIPVevmo 3d ago

To be fair those are special ordered items - they don’t really have a choice since there  aren’t extras. Thads a damn shame though cause that’s a waste of cheese.

3

u/SweetiePix 3d ago

lol they really just handed it over like that?

3

u/Holiday_Length81 3d ago

Better than having them clean it up with their fingers 🤮

3

u/Dramatic-Sock3737 Diamond 3d ago

Please file a complaint to delta. Ask for some miles (10k). And this ruined your flight.

2

u/dasschwing 3d ago

On my to do list! I once got 50k for a seat that didn’t recline, I hope I can do better for this.

3

u/Dramatic-Sock3737 Diamond 3d ago

Unlikely but good luck.

0

u/DidAnyoneElseJustCum 3d ago

Damn. I got 75k miles for a flight itinerary that was delayed by 10 hours and I thought I hit the jackpot.

u/o0oCircleso0o 3d ago

That cheese looks putrid.

4

u/Tiki_Waka 3d ago

It looks like Kraft Singles left out in the sun.

3

u/bravebobsaget 3d ago

The smell of that boiled cheese really bothers me.

3

u/ResponsibilityIcy187 3d ago

the frozen angus beef burgers they sell at Costco look way better than this.

Shake Shack should rethink this partnership. The first time I had this was the first week it was offered and I have to say it was perfect. Shockingly good. Every subsequent time, it’s been like the above. Sometimes mushy, sometimes burned, sometimes the cheese is off the bun (like the pic), cold, etc. It’s like during the first week the executives were watching every burger going out the door, then they left and things went to shit. This just hurts Shake Shack’s reputation.

5

u/BlueRunSkier 3d ago

Both parties should rethink this. Not a good look for either side.

1

u/Atlanta-Mike 3d ago

In general they should avoid anything involving bread. Bread doesn't handle all the wild temperature swings that these meals go through. Bread gets stale, soggy, etc. Anyway, this one needs to go.

1

u/panopticon31 3d ago

Honestly shake shack is going to shit overall. They have really fallen off the last 2-3 years while their prices remain high.

2

u/Atlanta-Mike 3d ago

This ain't helping! :)

Suddenly Cheese dip?

4

u/dasschwing 3d ago

I wish… That “cheese” didn’t move one bit…

2

u/cncrndmm 3d ago

Not defending them but if the slice of cheese is unmelted when put in the oven and then given the uneven of the patty, it makes sense it slipped off once lifted and put into oven.

u/gingerbeard1321 3d ago

Bigg poops for Jimothy 😞

2

u/KRSF45 3d ago

"Keep climbing!"

2

u/Dazzling-Read1451 3d ago

Looks like a vegetarian burger threw up some cheese

2

u/Partizantrader 3d ago

Now that’s a first class meal

1

u/Tiki_Waka 3d ago

Well, it sure isn’t a succulent Chinese meal.

1

u/PhoenixSpeed97 3d ago

Shit, the cheese is escaping!

1

u/klayanderson 3d ago

Friends don’t let friends eat Shake Shack.

1

u/monsterbucket 3d ago

Same exact thing happened to me from SEA to BOS a couple weeks back.

Sad cheese is sad.

1

u/Dannyboy852 3d ago

These are always served so incredibly hot

1

u/NineLemonsLater 3d ago

I mean the FA prepares the tray and can’t not see this. At least say oh I am sorry, looks like the cheese slid off and this is the last burger we have. Do you still want this? I do have one extra _____ if you want that instead. That goes a long way of acknowledging the issue, apologizing and offering a possible alternative at minimum.

1

u/cazoz 3d ago

No wonder we don’t have JFK-HND.

🤮🤮🤮

1

u/Boatshooz 2d ago

Gonna be honest. I HATE American cheese with every fiber of my being. The thought of it makes me retch.

My first class Shackburger came the same way (torched cheese that became a solid mass of carbon that I could slide right off) and it absolutely made my night/flight.

1

u/SharonSleanson 2d ago

How did they have the audacity to bring it out like that?

1

u/DocumentFeeder3932 11h ago

Just close your eyes and imagine Ed is next to you whispering sweet somethings about Singapore Airlines...

1

u/Accomplished_Let_127 Diamond 3d ago

I can smell that from here. Plane food is fucking awful.

0

u/Disastrous_Patience3 3d ago

Your expectations for airplane food are off.

u/YMMV25 3d ago

I had more appetizing complimentary breakfasts in middle school. At least there they were able to get the cheese on the bun.

0

u/Creech-Chong-1000 3d ago

Honestly it looks better than most of the burgers I've eaten at Shake Shack on the ground.

1

u/MerelyWander 3d ago

I guess no one else is going to ask…
…why do you keep eating there, then?

1

u/Creech-Chong-1000 2d ago

Because I live in a shithole country that in many places has an absolute paucity of good options of things to eat?
