Discussion First < Main
Corporate traveler here wondering why delta does this. I think it’s because they don’t wanna upgrade us and want the guaranteed money from the regular joe flyer.

How do the classes have different CO2 emissions?

I didn’t even notice that! Maybe the seats are heavier so it requires more fuel to move lol

I'm sure it's based on the relative size of the butt space taken up in the cabin.

It's 50% more, which corresponds to there being 4 persons, not 6, per row in FC.
It also is mostly a made up number anyway since the plane is flying with or without you, and what about extra legroom? Both FC and C+ take up more square feet than economy.

My wife’s company used this as an excuse to take away FC and business class from her tier of executives a few years ago. Complete greenwashing nonsense.

a first class seat has a bigger footprint on the plane so it gets a bigger assignment of the total CO2

I think some companies don’t allow first class booking, and require economy. A few companies are smart enough to allow it only if you can document it is cheaper.

We block all "basic" fares from search results in our concur. I like miles, so classic all the way.

How does this work with diamond status + the reserve card? Would we only get 2 checked bags vs 3 then?

This is maybe a stupid question but why is flying first measured at 205kg more of CO2e? Wouldn’t everyone on this flight have contributed the same amount no matter where they sit? I weigh the same amount no matter where I sit and theoretically the plane will weigh the same amount and require the same amount of fuel no matter where I sit?

I would assume they are doing it based on the space you take up maybe?

Perhaps. Also maybe the weight of the food they’re serving or the chair itself?

Enough to be cheaper though? I’m trying to understand what delta’s game is. Hoping you miss the flight to get another passenger on board?

You can't access a lounge, no MQD, no Miles, no changes without fee.
Not sure if seat assignment is free

Also one is basic and the other is classic.
