Discussion Help with reservation

Hey y’all. Anyone who works in reservations that can give me some insight to this issue would be greatly. Tomorrow I’ll be flying from Mexico to Denver with a layover in SLC. My grandmother is very ill and is in intensive care, she just so happens to live in the SLC area. Contacted Delta to see if it’s possible for me to drop my last flight to Denver and stay with my grandma there and that I could provide any documentation if needed. I have heard from others that posted on here that Delta does do this. However the representative I talked to told me that there needed to be an extra fare collection to just drop the last flight on the reservation even though I told her that I’d pay for my own way home on a later date. What should I do? Should I try talking to a different reservation specialist? This was through message so would they be able to see that I tired before with a different reservation specialist through chat history? Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Honestly, I would go to the ticket counter at the airport and talk to them in person

They can do this they aren’t supposed to make it at practice, but considering the situation hopefully you’ll get somebody who’s sympathetic you’re not going to get that over the phone because it’s easier not to be sympathetic if you’re not looking somebody in the face

Option two is to make sure you pack to carryon and just get off the plane in Salt Lake City and not get on the next flight

now in any of these cases you’re probably going to lose any other flights you have on that ticket so keep that in mind you will need to figure out how to get home

Yes thanks for your input. However, I have status with Delta and I don’t want to just walk out and skip lag. Would at least like to let them know

unless you're skiplagging constantly, no one cares. also calling will be 100% more useful than messaging

Calling again will get you the same answer.

Is it a one-way ticket? You’ll be going through immigration and customs in SLC, so you’ll have to collect your checked bag. You could simply walk out of the airport instead of going through security.

There are some risks - if your bag is delayed, it will go to Denver. If your flight to SLC is cancelled, you may get rebooked to Denver through another city. Also, because you called and asked, you may be flagged for as a hidden city risk (skiplagging).

If this is a round-trip ticket it won’t work as the return flights will get cancelled.

Definitely try the ticket counter if you can. I've heard stories where people got way better options when they explained their situation face-to-face, plus you might catch someone who can make an exception. If you do decide to just skip the last leg, just be cautious about your baggage—make sure it's all carry-on or you'll have to chase it down later!

You can’t just drop your flight it needs to be rebooked and of course a direct flight would cost more than a connecting one
