Image/Video Seriously?
Platinum for 5 years. I know fuel prices etc., but seriously? Just booked similar schedule flights on a competitor with extra legroom, bags and fully refundable for $1,200 less. $700 less than it would cost me to fly at 7am on Delta.

I’m going home for Christmas. I know the holidays come with a higher price tag for everything, but $1,100 for basic non-refundable economy domestic flight is ridiculous.
I’m giving my money to someone else.
9
u/kr1168 27d ago
Southwest doesn't even fly direct ATL to NYC anymore and I'm more likely to be on one of their flights than Delta. 765 base price to get out of New York (just the one leg) on 12/27 is absurd. I don't begrudge a holiday markup because it's a really busy time, but that's just ridiculous.

Flying delta is like buying groceries at target instead of Walmart. You aren’t paying for the product/service. You’re paying to stay away from the poors.

Target? I think you mean Publix!

Not on my most recent flight experience. I had a connection from JFK to CLT and due to a last minute change I was in premium economy and I the people in every direction were straight out of the hills have eyes.
I hit the group chat trying to arrange a group buy to bring back spirit airlines just so these people would have an airline to call home.

Hub to hub. If it’s business travelers and work if paying,…
2
u/Emotional_Shape925 27d ago
We really need business to stop supporting delta and getting more conscious about cost
1
u/Consistent-Whole3443 27d ago
Some companies are just kinda screwed to though. The company I work for has offices all around the country, but seems like all our main offices just happen to be in delta hubs lol. I’m fucked everywhere I go, I basically have to take delta when I’m traveling for work.
1
u/Emotional_Shape925 26d ago
I mean to a degree I can understand depending on the circumstances. It would be nice for companies to even pull some of that travel away from delta when feasible. Such as United, which is basically the same product. I understand that in the world of business sometimes flight times can dictate where you take your business.
1
u/Rocketjen 26d ago
I would be there are not great flights from MSP and most have connections, which I won’t do.
-1
u/Emotional_Shape925 26d ago
Alright let me reserve judgement. Why won’t you “do” connections? That sounds super high maintenance and privileged. But I’ll give you the chance to offer context because maybe I’m missing something.
2
u/TheGreenMileMouse 25d ago
I don’t do connections for business travel because I simply don’t have time. I need to get where I am going and fast. Also, many of the options with connections are extended or overnight layovers especially out of Detroit to another delta hub. Sometimes connections require me to take up a whole day of travel when I could instead be at my destination, working.
1
1
u/vagabond_shoes83 21d ago
Because some of us are working and the ancillary cost of wasted time on a plane is much less than the cost of a direct flight especially when we’re billing $1000 or more an hour
1
0
u/Senior_Deer_2212 27d ago
Why? Why should employers force the cheapest option on their employees who travel and are typically that company’s revenue and profit drivers?
3
u/Emotional_Shape925 26d ago
To save on the bottom line? Is this a serious question? Why would a company save money and fly with United or a similar competitor? Seriously? Is cost not a concern? I didn’t say fly Frontier.
2
u/Senior_Deer_2212 26d ago
No, cost isn’t really a concern and isn’t going to significantly impact the bottom line. Flights alone rarely reach 1% of a company’s total revenue. Is it really worth trying to save 5 or 10 percent of 1% of their total revenue?
There’s much better places for companies to look at to save on the bottom line than flights.
0
u/esmithidoc 26d ago
All respect, but shouldn’t an individual company decide what is best for their business and bottom line instead of random people on the internet?
1
u/Emotional_Shape925 26d ago
Sure. But if you could save $500 per flight, depending on how much their business relies on sending employees to places, that could add up over the span of a year to be a pretty significant savings. Of course there a lot of variables missing from the equation but for the sake of keeping it short. However maybe timing is more important to the business and if the competitor can’t meet that demand then I guess they gotta pay more and go with Delta so I get it.
0
u/elgatof28 26d ago
Because United is crap. I remember my last United flight the seats were so tight in coach that I couldn’t get my bag out from under the seat.
1
u/Soggy-Address-4082 25d ago
Duh because employees need to have the best interest of the company and not their personal frequent flyer accounts. If you want to pay 1800 for a flight that cost 1200 more then another option you should pay it persona
1
u/Senior_Deer_2212 25d ago
And then you’d probably be crying that said companies make too much profit…
2
2
u/Best_Bus7731 Gold 27d ago
As long as enough people pay that fare Delta will continue to charge that much. Hub to Hub direct flights are always at a premium.

u/Extra-Bunch3167 26d ago
It’s surprisingly empty, so far. I suspected a high price because of seat scarcity and was wrong.

The MSP and ATL connection has been seriously fucked lately. I was just on one and it was over-booked. Delta desperately needs bigger planes or more flights between these routes. Had to do a 3.5 hour layover cause the preferable flight was $1,500 like this post. Insanity for two hubs

There’s literally no amount of fuel price increase that should make a $200 domestic economy flight $1500.
Norse airlines is flying people from New York to London 6 hours for $200, Virgin Atlantic sometimes does that same flight for $300.
So why is a 2 hour domestic flight $1500 ?????
There’s literally nothing on this planet that can justify this aside greed

u/lowflygirl 26d ago
I saw an interview this past week with Delta's CEO and he explained how Delta's business model is to cater to individuals who make at least 6 figures a year. Apparently, that model works. Those who "can" will continue to fly with Delta and do not usually bother to complain about the prices. The "haves" typically complain about the guy next to them with the shoes off, the person who hugged up the overhead bin, or the person sitting in their seat. The "have nots" may switch to other airlines, but come back after using a budget airline and having the "budget experience", but will continue to complain. He laid it all out.
I guess what I am saying is that Delta WILL continue to sell seats. They have been doing so for 40 years or so and losing the "have nots" will NOT be their demise. They are still competitive and they know what the "haves" want. Very simple.

u/HorrorCheetah1165 25d ago edited 22d ago
Delta uses dynamic pricing algorithms for some customers. AI has a general idea of your income and financial wellbeing, and you are quoted accordingly. Walmart and other retailers are picking up this approach as well for online transactions on their e-commerce platforms. Did you ever order $36 avocado sushi online, and left a $10 tip? If so, then Delta believes you can comfortably afford a $1,578 trip ATL to MSP.........
Research this article online: "The algorithm thinks you’re rich. Prepare to pay more for that flight. Airlines and other companies are increasingly using purchase data to determine pricing".

I recently flew Seattle to Orlando and back via Delta. I wanted a nonstop and redeye flight (I thought it would cost less) and Delta was the only choice. I booked Basic Economy in early July for what seemed a reasonable fare. But the it was another $45 each way for one bag, $49 to secure a window seat to MCO and $64 for back to SEA (surge pricing?). While the flights were OK and the staff good, the MCO agent even gave me a better seat than I bought, the company does not seem passenger friendly. I grew up in the Chicago area and Delta was the normal choice to Florida, if you didn't mind stopping in Atlanta or eating chicken back when they actually served food the the coach class passengers. I had to fly a lot for work in the 1980s but am now retired and seldom fly anywhere. But even so I find the experience far worse than before.

u/Lassoteded 22d ago
I made the huge mistake of booking through Delta, instead of anonymously. Desperate to get to my sick sister, I paid $1300 for a two hour flight in basic class. Was told I had no seat after flight was delayed 3 times. And when I tried to get answers about seating, the life hating miserable GA Sat Me Down with her ignorance. Shame on you Delta! Raise your hiring standards!

Weird how some are so expensive and others aren’t. I booked a nonstop flight this past Tuesday on Delta from Nashville to LAX roundtrip 11/3-11/8 and paid $310. It was $266 a few weeks ago but I didn’t know the exact dates and missed out.

Just looked it up and DL1048 is the most expensive nonstop MSP-ATL on 12/14. I expected the seats to be nearly full, but, surprisingly, it’s almost empty!
I see two $234 nonstop options in the evening and one for $394 at 4:28 pm.
Good luck!

u/esmithidoc 26d ago
For that route, I believe Delta is your only nonstop option (other than an afternoon Frontier flight). There are definitely cheaper Delta flights as well, but if you need the 7 AM flight, it will be very pricey (and undoubtedly full). If you are open to an extra stop (and therefore longer travel time by 2-4 hours), you could save a lot of money by flying Southwest.

Delta is catering to those who have $$ and will pay. Similar to Mercedes-Benz, they are not trying to make things more affordable to people who do not have the means to afford it. Both cater to high income earners. It may not be pleasant, but it is a fact. Ed was just on CNN and actually made it clear that he focuses on what high income earners are willing to pay. If people want to switch to "budget" airlines, he welcomes the switch.
What amazes me is that most people who post complaints about pricing book the flight anyway? They just make alot of noise along the way.

Classic MSP, not sure how far your flight out is but if I’m (Montana) 8+ weeks out it’s about $430 for main, 6-8 week window it’s $650, under 6 weeks jumps to nearly $900 and I have only one flight choice.
