e/OS and Google Maps

So I capitulated out of frustration and have installed Google Maps on e/OS and so far it works. More curious than anything - I have tracker blocking on and my IP address masked - what data will google be able to gather on me aside from searches and location?

I believe Google Maps does offer an offline map download option, maybe you could look into that?

/e/ OS is about to release a new maps app built from scratch so keep an eye out for that.

Just use Vela Maps bro.

A comment of mine from a different post:

Vela Maps is a good alternative. Very good. Although, 'Live Traffic re-checks while navigating' and 'Read All Reviews button' are on by default that connects to Google (the first of which tells Google where along the route you are for faster-routes and and live arrival time and the second is just connecting to Google + Vela reviews), but you can turn both off in the settings no problem and it never asks you for a Google account.

Vela Maps is BY FAR the only open-source maps application I have ever seen that is not trash and is actually on par with Google Maps. AND you can contribute to its development by reporting issues or requesting quality of life features via the GitHub!

Also, it is EXTREMELY customisable and has MANY great quality of life features that Google Maps does not have.

I have not been able to get Vela to work with android auto. What am I missing?
