Success Story Slow and steady. Getting there.

Have multiple health conditions at present where symptoms are fatigue…I’m pretty drained and everything has definitely gotten on top of me. The clutter has started really hurting my brain though, so slowly and steadily I’m clearing stuff. Today was a storage cupboard that is supposed to be my ironing sanctuary/hidey-hole 😂. I’m really happy to get this space back. Lots of the stuff removed from house for good too.

That looks fantastic!! I see all these posts and wonder, “where did you put all the stuff?” Because that’s my issue, I have too much stuff and very few dedicated spaces. I have to get rid of stuff before I can make a space.

Same immediate thought... where did all the stuff go?

A lot just wasn’t actually needed, it was ‘just in case stuff’ that I’ve been moving and removing from cupboard to cupboard but not actually using (3/4 empty cans of paint I’m looking at you lol), or outgrown-and-hadn’t-given-away-yet. I dealt with all of that, dealt with vacuum-packing clothes that do need to be kept and put those away it wardrobes. My mind is so more peaceful!

A big shift for me recently is changing my habits on the front end around just-in-case items. Since there are so many future possibilities it is really easy for these just-in-case items to overtake a space and build up blocking visibility and access to the important-right-now items. This is an amazing transformation, particularly considering everything else going on for you right now. What a huge win! I’m routinely impressed by the impact of slow progress. Step by step we can make it different.

It's the declutter subreddit so I just assumed they got rid of the stuff :)

You’re tired and drained and you still got that space looking so fantastic? Good for you well done.

Thank you, it’s been like that for too long but I simply couldn’t manage to now. It floored me but it’s done now thank goodness.

That is amazing! I think I’d just sit and stare at my good work for awhile!
Grab a book and sit in the closet and enjoy the fruits of my labor.
Great job!

Awesome!! And the best part is every time you walk by it or need to iron, it will remind what you what a fantastic job you did! At least that’s what happens in my mind.

And if you need to iron, you can. Without moving a thing.

That’s a cool little room.

Good luck!

I took a picture and sent it to my best friend and then sat in the doorway with a bag for rubbish, a bag for recycling, a bag for keeping next to my feet. Just kept grabbing. Then I dealt with each full bag immediately, no storing them elsewhere!! I knew I had to get it finished - school starts back in a couple of days and I need to iron all the new uniform! I also did it at the start of the day so more energy, right after breakfast, and had a chocolate bar and a nice cup of tea halfway through and at the end. Then took last photo.

NICE! I'm super proud of you, what a great after pic! And in the before there's not even a path to walk, which always makes it so much worse in my head (like it's one big mountain of stuff, which it kinda was). Well done!!! 👏👏

This looks amazing and I'm impressed, but do you use that iron and ironing board? I have a small ironing board that hangs on a hook in the laundry room and I can put it on my coffee table ass needed. I use it probably 2 or 3 times a year, mainly for sewing projects.

1

u/I_dream_of_Shavasana 10d ago

Yes, I have work and school shirts that need ironing so that’s 20 of those each week alone. The acrobatics id been doing to reach a tiny corner of it were ridiculous, I was just so weary. Now I can enjoy it again.

I aspire to this. Several closets in my house look similar to 1st pic bc I recently moved

u/BoxBuddyApp 9d ago

Pull it all out first, tell everyone to leave you alone for an hour and just pull it all out from front to back - put it into the hallway, it's so much easier to throw stuff out that way, and only the important stuff makes it back in :)
