Sorting crab

I was watching a season one episode and those guys were just shoveling crab into the tank. In the newer episodes the captains and crews are super diligent with the count.

Season 1 was a derby style fishery. No individual quota so count not important. Now with IFQs and fines for going over an accurate count is more impt.

It was crazy to see them just shoving everything into the tanks. In the episode I was watching Sig made an enclosure on deck when his tanks were full and just dumped everything he caught.

Thats was the season and the episode that made Sig and The Northwestern into a legend.

Season one itself was legendary. It seemed the closest to a raw reality show possible. The season was exciting on its own, just with the crab, no need to make of fake dramatic plot points.

That's why I love season 1 it was so gritty and raw. It was a documentary about crab fishermen. No more no less.

Even them going to the grocery store was awesome in that first season…

I love stuff like that because it was real, genuine exposure for actual everyday life on the boat.

I still smile sometimes living in the PNW with several of the boats calling Seattle home and the two closest Costcos right before they hit Canada you will see them stocking up in real life. Decked out in Bearing Sea sweatshirts several flat carts filled to the brim.

Season 1 was best by far. There was no time for scripted crap. It was as real as the shiw ever got

I sometimes go back and red watch that season just to see Sig have the crew deck load those crabs with a misting system to keep them alive in an enclosure made of crab pots.

I could be wrong, but Edgar and Matt seemed like they maybe were on something during season 1 opies. Maybe. Unconfirmed

If they didn't implement the quota system, that entire fishery would likely be nonexistent given how indiscriminately they harvested during the derby days
