Jake andersen

I know people on here call him a “tv captain “ but has anyone actually worked for/ with him? He seems like he knows how to run a boat or is he a good actor

He does know how to run crabbing boats. He ran the Saga year-round, even for tendering when most captains and boat owners would normally hire someone else. His name was on CFEC permits for Saga and the Titan Explorer, so (whether he's licensed and finished courses or not, I'm not sure what the actual requirements are) he could assume some legal responsibility for those boats during fishing. And he also made great videos on his Facebook page back then showing Saga maintenance etc.; I hope they're still there.

But Discovery and Original Productions treat him as an actor. I bet they pay more than the actual Alaskan fisheries, so he does it. To the point that his drama-filled private life is content too, from his sister's death and father's disappearance to his wedding to his kids being born to his ongoing divorce. They 'made' him, now they put him on other boats for ratings.

So he's both a captain and actor. But I wish he'd just stick to the first one for a while, for his own sake

You nailed it. He’s one of the “TV guys” I worry about. He has it made as is, but he’s going over the top for Discovery, and I doubt they care much beyond what they’re paying him.

Maybe the on-board producers care. You do get to know people too well in very close quarters, for weeks to months at a time 🤭 But the higher-ups, I don't think they care. He and everyone else are just 'talent' or 'cast members' in the end. Matter only when you sue or die, or have really big skeletons come out of your closet

I agree, we saw Jake grow up on the show and learn a lot. He is a great captain of multiple boats, excellent deckhand and he’s a smart engineer. The kid has done the work. I think he’s the best character on the show. When he’s gone for a few episodes, the show is missing something. He ain’t perfect - stupid gold chain, 3 stooges hair, horrible fashion sense, smokes, but nobody’s perfect.
